Uma das características mais importantes na cultura da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) é a sua capacidade de se adaptar em ambientes propensos a secas onde cereais e outras culturas não apresentam bom desenvolvimento, além de crescer bem em solos pobres (NASSAR, 2008). Além de outras características competitivas a mandioca vêm se tornado um dos principais alimentos energéticos, componente cotidiano da refeição de cerca de 1 bilhão de pessoas em 105 países, sobretudo naqueles em desenvolvimento, sendo considerada a terceira fonte de calorias (depois do arroz e do milho) (SOUZA, 2011). O mercado de mandioca encontra-se em grande desenvolvimento nos últimos anos devido ao advento de novas formas de comercialização, seu principal uso esta relacionado ao consumo de suas raízes, na alimentação e na indústria alimentícia. Entretanto fatores como a carência de cultivares produtivas e adaptadas a cada região, podem comprometer a estabilidade do setor produtivo. Assim, O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar variedades de mandioca pertencentes ao Banco de Germoplasma da Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, para características agronômicas visando atender às necessidades da agroindústria da mandioca da região nordeste do Estado da Bahia

Conformal Bulk Fields, Dark Energy and Brane Dynamics

In the Randall-Sundrum scenario we analyze the dynamics of a spherically symmetric 3-brane when the bulk is filled with matter fields. Considering a global conformal transformation whose factor is the $Z_2$ symmetric warp we find a new set of exact dynamical solutions for which gravity is bound to the brane. The set corresponds to a certain class of conformal bulk fields. We discuss the geometries which describe the dynamics on the brane of polytropic dark energy.Comment: 12 pages, latex, 2 figures. Modified Gravity on the Brane and Dark Energy

We analyze the dynamics of an AdS5 braneworld with matter fields when gravity is allowed to deviate from the Einstein form on the brane. We consider exact 5-dimensional warped solutions which are associated with conformal bulk fields of weight -4 and describe on the brane the following three dynamics: those of inhomogeneous dust, of generalized dark radiation, and of homogeneous polytropic dark energy. We show that, with modified gravity on the brane, the existence of such dynamical geometries requires the presence of non-conformal matter fields confined to the brane.Comment: Revised version published in Gen. Recent social policies and rural development in Brazil: the Family allowance programme in rural areas.

Brazil won international renown in the first decade of the twenty-first century for reducing social inequalities and hunger, poverty, and extreme poverty. The Bolsa Família Programme played a significant role in this achievement. This article discusses public policy based on direct income transfer in Brazil and its role in poverty reduction, with special focus on outcomes in rural areas in the southern and north-eastern regions of the country. The article uses a theoretical framework that views development from the perspective of the social actors involved. The methodology of this research is based on data collected from the TABCad software of government departments responsible for the policies, as well as information gathered from fieldwork. The findings corroborate the importance of the Bolsa Família Programme in achieving advances in Brazil in the study period. They show that the impact of the Programme on rural populations and in the north-eastern region of the country has been notable, and can be attributed to a policy that focuses on social security as well as development

Implantação e acompanhamento de um sistema agroflorestal com cultivo diversificado.

Resumo: Os sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) possibilitam o planejamento, o redesenho e a recuperação produtiva e ecológica de áreas agrícolas degradadas e podem ser implantados em área protegidas, como Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP) e Reserva legal (RL).Para avaliar essa capacidade foi planejado e implantado um SAF ocupando áreas de APP eagricultáveis. O desenho proposto é modular, formando aléias com áreas intercaladas destinadas a cultivos anuais. Sua composição utilizou frutas nativas e exóticas, dando destaque para a macaúba. A diversidade florística das espécies visou atender à legislação vigente que prevê o uso de SAFs em APP e RL. O sistema foi planejado e implantado de forma participativa entre instituições parceiras e agricultores familiares. Nesse trabalho serão apresentados seu desenho e a metodologia de implantação com custos de insumos e mão de obra, situação atual de desenvolvimento com alguns resultados iniciais
