    Computing Groebner Fans

    Get PDF
This paper presents algorithms for computing the Groebner fan of an arbitrary polynomial ideal. The computation involves enumeration of all reduced Groebner bases of the ideal. Our algorithms are based on a uniform definition of the Groebner fan that applies to both homogeneous and non-homogeneous ideals and a proof that this object is a polyhedral complex. We show that the cells of a Groebner fan can easily be oriented acyclically and with a unique sink, allowing their enumeration by the memory-less reverse search procedure. The significance of this follows from the fact that Groebner fans are not always normal fans of polyhedra in which case reverse search applies automatically. Computational results using our implementation of these algorithms in the software package Gfan are included.Comment: 26 page

Play builds imagination and creativity in children. Play is essential to promote cognitive growth and healthy brain development of a child. Unstructured play helps develop a child\u27s brain in a positive way. Through play, a child learns, solves problems, has fun and builds self confidence. Play delivers long- and short-term emotional and behavioural benefits in children.  Play can help reduce anxiety, stress and irritability in children, as well as increase happiness and self-esteem. Play improves literacy. Through play, children learn about communication.  Concentration games develop the ability to observe and maintain focus. Research shows that tired or bored children pay more attention to their work after a play break. Play encourages greater independence as well as allows experimentation with creativity and innovative ideas.  Children need intellectual as well as physical play. Play promotes physical fitness and makes children physically strong. Traditional outdoor games play an important role in children\u27s cognitive and social development. Traditional outdoor games provide a unique and enriching way for children to interact with each other, developing their cognitive and social skills. But nowadays traditional outdoor games are unknown and not even played by children. The research paper discusses the importance and effects of play, especially traditional outdoor games, in children\u27s cognitive and social development

Background: Late-term pregnancy defined as one that has reached between 41 0/7 weeks and 41 6/7 weeks of gestation is associated with an increased maternal morbidity as well as an increased risk of fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Mifepristone, an anti-glucocorticoid and antiprogesterone, though not an oxytocic increases uterine activity and causes cervical effacement and dilatation and improves the Bishop score without over/hyper stimulation of uterus. Increased maternal and fetal mortality from late term pregnancy could be prevented by induction of labour. The objective of this study was to know the efficacy of single dose of oral mifepristone in induction of labour in late term pregnancy and to assess the induction delivery interval in the study population. Methods: This was a prospective interventional study conducted in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences, Bengaluru. 100 Women with late term pregnancy who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were considered for the study after an informed written consent. Results: 73.5% (n=36) of multigravida and 80.4% (n=41) of prim gravida showed improvement in the Bishop score post induction with mifepristone and majority (89.79 % primigravida and 84.31% multigravida) of the study population had vaginal delivery. Multigravida (73.5%) had less induction delivery interval (less than 48hours) compared to primigravida (19.6%).Conclusions: Mifepristone, a progesterone antagonist causes a significant improvement in the Bishop’s score and is associated with an increased rate of vaginal deliveries

A novel and integrated architecture for identification and cancellation of noise from GSM signal

    Get PDF
There are multiple reasons for the evolution as well as the presence of noise over transmitted GSM signal. In spite of various approaches towards noise cancellation techniques, there are less applicable techniques for controlling noise in acoustic GSM signal. Therefore, the proposed manuscript presents an integrated modelling which performs modelling of noise identification that could significantly assist in successful noise cancellation. The proposed system uses three different approach viz. i) stochastic based approach for noise modelling, ii) analytical-based approach where allocated power acts as one of the prominent factors of noise, and iii) wavelet-based approach for effective decomposition of GSM signal for assisting better noise cancellation technique followed by better retention of signal quality. Simulated in MATLAB, the study outcome shows that it offers a cost-effective implementation, A Practical Approach for Noise identification, and Effective Noise Cancellation with Signal quality retention. The proposed system offers approximately 24% of enhancement in noise reduction as compared to any existing digital filters with 1.6 seconds faster in processing speed

Novel Technique for Comprehensive Noise Identification and Cancellation in GSM Signal

    Get PDF
Presence of noise significantly degrades the contents being transmitted over GSM channel. With the evolution of next generation of communication system, the challenges in noise cancellation in voice along with data transmission are not being addressed effectively by existing filters. Therefore, the proposed system offers a mechanism where emphasis is laid on identification of superior and inferior forms of GSM transient signal followed by cancellation of its noise level. Designed using analytical methodology, the proposed system harness the potential of probability theory to perform a modeling that associates allocated power of the transmitting device with the level of noise. The outcome of the study is found to offer a comprehensive identification of different forms of noise and can precisely determine the level of superior and inferior quality of signal. The outcome significantly assists in designing an accurate filter for noise cancellation in GSM signal

Structural basis of regulation and substrate specificity of protein kinase CK2 deduced from the modeling of protein-protein interactions

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Protein Kinase Casein Kinase 2 (PKCK2) is an ubiquitous Ser/Thr kinase expressed in all eukaryotes. It phosphorylates a number of proteins involved in various cellular processes. PKCK2 holoenzyme is catalytically active tetramer, composed of two homologous or identical and constitutively active catalytic (α) and two identical regulatory (β) subunits. The tetramer cannot phosphorylate some substrates that can be phosphorylated by PKCK2α in isolation. The present work explores the structural basis of this feature using computational analysis and modeling. RESULTS: We have initially built a model of PKCK2α bound to a substrate peptide with a conformation identical to that of the substrates in the available crystal structures of other kinases complexed with the substrates/ pseudosubstrates. In this model however, the fourth acidic residue in the consensus pattern of the substrate, S/T-X-X-D/E where S/T is the phosphorylation site, did not result in interaction with the active form of PKCK2α and is highly solvent exposed. Interaction of the acidic residue is observed if the substrate peptide adopts conformations as seen in β turn, α helix, or 3(10 )helices. This type of conformation is observed and accommodated well by PKCK2α in calmodulin where the phosphorylation site is at the central helix. PP2A carries sequence patterns for PKCK2α phosphorylation. While the possibility of PP2A being phosphorylated by PKCK2 has been raised in the literature we use the model of PP2A to generate a model of PP2A-PKCK2α complex. PKCK2β undergoes phosphorylation by holoenzyme at the N-terminal region, and is accommodated very well in the limited space available at the substrate-binding site of the holoenzyme while the space is insufficient to accommodate the binding of PP2A or calmodulin in the holoenzyme. CONCLUSION: Charge and shape complimentarity seems to play a role in substrate recognition and binding to PKCK2α, along with the consensus pattern. The detailed conformation of the substrate peptide binding to PKCK2 differs from the conformation of the substrate/pseudo substrate peptide that is bound to other kinases in the crystal structures reported. The ability of holoenzyme to phosphorylate substrate proteins seems to depend on the accessibility of the P-site in limited space available in holoenzyme

Background: Episiotomy is a standard surgical procedure performed during childbirth to enlarge the vaginal opening and facilitate baby delivery. Effective suturing techniques promote optimal wound healing, minimize complications, and enhance postpartum recovery for women undergoing episiotomy repair. This study aims to compare the effect of two different suture materials- chromic catgut and fast absorbable polyglactin-910 in the repair of episiotomy and its complications. Methods: A prospective, randomized, single blinded study was conducted at the department of obstetrics and gynecology, in a tertiary care hospital in India, between April 2021 and September 2022. Women aged 18-35 years with a singleton pregnancy undergoing vaginal delivery with episiotomy were included after giving informed written consent and fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria. Either chromic catgut (n=58) or polyglactin-910 fast (n=58) suture was used in episiotomy repair. The primary endpoint was to assess perineal pain following episiotomy repair using (VAS) visual analogue scale. The secondary endpoints were to assess wound healing using the REEDA scale, short term complications (hematoma, swelling, puerperal fever, dehiscence, wound healing and re-suturing), long term complications (feeling of slight stitches, dyspareunia and suture granuloma), intraoperative suture parameters, and any adverse events were noted. Results: Perineal pain, analgesic requirement, a feeling of slight stitches, and swelling were significantly more in the chromic catgut suture group compared to the polyglactin-910 fast absorbable suture group. Conclusions: The study concluded that polyglactin-910 fast absorbable suture is superior to chromic catgut suture and recommended its use over chromic catgut suture

The role of cardiotocography in predicting perinatal outcomes in women presenting with reduced perception of fetal movements at term: an observational study

    Get PDF
Background: Reduced perception of fetal movement by mother is a common reason for self referral for assessment by healthcare providers affecting 5-15% of pregnancy. It allows early identification of fetuses at risk of adverse outcome. Non stress test (NST) or Cardiotocography (CTG) is the most commonly used test for antepartum and intrapartum fetal surveillance. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the role of NST/CTG in predicting perinatal outcomes in women presenting with reduced perception of fetal movements. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 110 term pregnant women presenting with reduced perception of fetal movements. NST/CTG was done as a preliminary test in them and the results were analyzed statistically. Results: Total 60% women had reactive CTG, 17.3% had suspicious CTG and 22.7% had pathological CTG at the time of presentation. Out of 66 women who had reactive NST, 34 women were discharged after observation for 24 hours to follow up. About 58.15% women had one or more risk factors associated with pregnancy in our study. Pathological/ suspicious CTG was more commonly associated with adverse perinatal outcomes like presence of MSAF, low APGAR score at 1 minute and 5 minutes, neonatal distress, need for neonatal resuscitation and NICU admission with statistical significance. However, all babies had good outcome in our study. Conclusions: Early approach, timely intervention could reduce associated complications and improve perinatal outcome in all these cases.
