Assessment of economic feasibility for gridconnected renewable energy system for a household application in Terengganu

This article extends the conference paper ‘Simulation-based method to evaluate PV/wind hybrid renewable energy system in Terengganu’. Instead of off-grid system considered in the conference version, inspired by feed-in-tariff introduced by The Government of Malaysia, this article includes grid-connected hybrid renewable energy system to examine their feasibility to be used as power supply for a household in Terengganu. In addition, this article compares the performance of grid-only system and hybrid grid-renewable energy systems in terms of cost of electricity and emission of pollutant. The payback period is also examined based on the current sellback rate. Sensitivity analysis is done to find the best sellback rate for a hybrid grid/PV/wind system to compete with a hybrid grid/PV system. In addition, the most optimal configuration is also determined by varying the value of solar radiation, wind speed and sellback rate. Generally, it is concluded that the hybrid grid/PV system is the most practicable choice to be used as power generator to supply electricity for a household in Terengganu

Enhanced image annotations based on spatial information extraction and ontologies

    No full text
Current research on image annotation often represents images in terms of labelled regions or objects, but pays little attention to the spatial positions or relationships between those regions or objects. To be effective, general purpose image retrieval systems require images with comprehensive annotations describing fully the content of the image. Much research is being done on automatic image annotation schemes but few authors address the issue of spatial annotations directly. This paper begins with a brief analysis of real picture queries to librarians showing how spatial terms are used to formulate queries. The paper is then concerned with the development of an enhanced automatic image annotation system, which extracts spatial information about objects in the image. The approach uses region boundaries and region labels to generate annotations describing absolute object positions and also relative positions between pairs of objects. A domain ontology and spatial information ontology are also used to extract more complex information about the relative closeness of objects to the viewer

Constitutional Authority Based on the Constitutional Court Decision in Indonesia

At least there has been a development regarding the constitutional authority of the Constitutional Court in four ways based on its decision. It is also true that the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding, but not in the sense of not being examined further. This study uses normative research methods. The results revealed four developments in the constitutional authority of the Constitutional Court in three ways: passive, active, and passive-active methods. Furthermore, it was also revealed; that there are also development efforts that have occurred more than once in the same matter. Therefore, in the future when the Constitutional Court decides on cases related to its authority, ideally by observing the limiting signs of the previous decision and considering the three basic characteristics of constitutional interpretation. Likewise, in the future there is another development regarding the constitutional authority of the Constitutional Court. In that case, it is appropriate to also pay attention to the three basic characteristics of constitutional interpretation

A Compact Optical Fiber Based Gas Sensing System for Carbon Dioxide Monitoring

    Get PDF
This paper presents an approach to develop an optical fiber based gas leak sensor that can be used to detect and quantify carbon dioxide gas. The developed sensor system operates based on the principles of Infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopy using the dual channel and double wavelength method. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate the interference signal from the outside environment by using this method. The design of the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas sensor system consists of a Broadband light source, two IR detectors with different Narrow Band Pass (NBP) filters for Active and Reference channel, chalcogenide infrared (CIR) fibers and a compact gas detection cell. The output of the sensor system is captured using in-house LabVIEW program with Data Acquisition (DAQ) capabilities and displayed in real time. Experimental results show that the developed optical fiber based gas sensor system is capable to detect and quantify concentrations of carbon dioxide gas for leak detection and also environmental monitoring applications

Dual Channel Double Wavelength Method in Optical Fiber Based Gas Sensor for Carbon Dioxide Detection

A novel double wavelength strategy in optical fiberbased sensor for detection of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas is presented. The detection strategy works based on an open-path direct absorption spectroscopy in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) wavelength range. The sensor system comprises of a broadband filament emitter acting as the Infrared (IR) light source, Chalcogenide Infrared (CIR) Optical Fibers, two Pyroelectric detectors which been fitted built- in with a limited bandpass CO2 channel and a reference channel. The sensor additionally uses calcium fluoride (CaF2) limit bandpass (NBP) channel for recognition of CO2 gas without cross-sensitivity to different gasses exist in the surrounding environment. The correlation amongst test and computed sensor yields are additionally exhibited

The moral foreign language effect is stable across presentation modalities

    Get PDF
YesPeoples’ judgments and decisions often change when made in their foreign language. Existing research testing this foreign language effect has predominantly used text-based stimuli with little research focusing on the impact of listening to audio stimuli on the effect. The only existing study on this topic found shifts in people’s moral decisions only in the audio modality. Firstly, by reanalyzing the data from this previous study and by collecting data in an additional experiment, we found no consistent effects of using foreign language on moral judgments. Secondly, in both datasets we found no significant language by modality interaction. Overall, our results highlight the need for more robust testing of the foreign language effect, and its boundary conditions. However, modality of presentation does not appear to be a candidate for explaining its variability. Data and materials for this experiment are available at https://osf.io/qbjxn/

In the midst of the problems of pesantren in this millennial era, which often reaps a less positive image in the community, because of the management and fundraising activities for the construction of pesantren which are taken through the distribution of students or their administrators to the streets and to homes. However, Al-Hilal Islamic Boarding School in Bandung has shown its success by strengthening independent and entrepreneurial programs for its administrators in advancing pesantren. This study uses a social marketing approach through social products and social practices, as well as da'wah bil hal as a pillar of the program for the benefit of the people. The method used, namely focus group discussions (FGD) with leaders, administrators, and students of Al-Hilal Islamic Boarding School equipped with participants and donors from various agencies. The results of the study report that institutional strengthening and community participation are achieved by carrying out social marketing such as managing social products, Ponpes Al-Hilal by publishing the Jabal Qur'an and media, while social practice is the distribution of al-Qur'an waqf. 'an, Waqaf Wells, mobile rice distribution, qurban, LAZIZWAF, and others. For the information media of Al-Hilal Islamic Boarding School through kiai/ustaz lectures, writing works, mass media publications, installing banners, distributing brochures, calendars, bulletins; publication on facebook, whatsapp group, instagram, website; involvement of community participation, alumni, and radio and TV broadcasts. In da'wah bil hal, Al-Hilal Islamic Boarding School holds the principle that Islam is a religion that pays attention to a person's personal relationship with the community and the people who live around him
