Thermal Emission from Transiting Very-Hot Jupiters: Prospects for Ground-based Detection at Optical Wavelengths
Very hot Jupiters (VHJs) are defined as Jupiter-mass extrasolar planets with
orbital periods shorter than three days. For low albedos the effective
temperatures of irradiated VHJs can reach 2500-3000 K. Thermal emission from
VHJs is therefore potentially strong at optical wavelengths. We explore the
prospects of detecting optical-wavelength thermal emission during secondary
eclipse with existing ground-based telescopes. We show that OGLE-TR-56b and
OGLE-TR-132b are the best suited candidates for detection, and that the
prospects are highest around z'-band (~0.9 microns). We also speculate that any
newly discovered VHJs with the right combination of orbital separation and host
star parameters could be thermally detected in the optical. The lack of
detections would still provide constraints on the planetary albedos and
re-radiation factors.Comment: accepted for publication on ApJ
The unemployment benefits in the proposal for a regulation amending regulations (ce) 883/2004 and 987/2009
This research work aims to do a specific analysis of the European Union coordination of
the unemployment benefits derived from the Proposal for a Regulation of The European
Parliament and of The Council amending Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the
coordination of social security systems and Regulation (EC) No 987/2009 laying down
the procedure for implementing Regulation (EC) No 883/2004. The Proposal for a
Regulation focuses on the unemployment benefits as one of the four areas of
coordination where improvements are required, of what it is deduced that
unemployment is still constituting the most problematic and complex benefit because of
the existence of the different legal regulations of the member States, what justifies that
we focus our study on it
Person and music constitute an inseparable binomial, the existence of one without the other is not
understood. The objective of this work is to know the possibilities of music and musictherapy in the
person and its development right from childhood stage. The aim is to contrast the theory with the
professional and personal experience of music therapist Patxi del Campo and, on the other hand,
to inquire about the current situation of music in children's classrooms.
To achieve these objectives, the following methodology has been carried out: first of all, an
interview with Del Campo and, moreover, a survey of teachers who practice in the early childhood
education stage (3-6 years old).
The results of the interview showed the difference between the use of music and musictherapy.
They have also showed us that the main functions of music therapy are to facilitate the personworld relationship, as well as to make a person feel alive. The last part of this interview, has
allowed us to know his point of view about the situation of music in the classroom. All this,
encompassed within the important fact, for the interviewee, of no separating music and person.
The results of the survey have shown the respondents are aware of the benefits of music, but they
express doubts about they are working music correctly and sufficiently.
It can be concluded that, although music is essential and inseparable from the person, it does not
occupy the place it should in the classrooms of early childhood education, one possible cause of
this, is the insufficient teacher trainin

Limits to Transits of the Neptune-mass planet orbiting Gl 581
We have monitored the Neptune-mass exoplanet-hosting M-dwarf Gl 581 with the
1m Swope Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory over two predicted transit
epochs. A neutral density filter centered at 550nm was used during the first
epoch, yielding 6.33 hours of continuous light curve coverage with an average
photometric precision of 1.6 mmags and a cadence of 2.85 min. The second epoch
was monitored in B-band over 5.85 hours, with an average photometric precision
of 1.2 mmags and 4.28 min cadence. No transits are apparent on either night,
indicating that the orbital inclination is less than 88.1 deg for all planets
with radius larger than 0.38 R_Nep = 1.48 R_Earth. Because planets of most
reasonable interior composition have radii larger than 1.55 R_Earth we place an
inclination limit for the system of 88.1 deg. The corresponding minimum mass of
Gl 581b remains 0.97 M_Nep = 16.6 M_Earth.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 1 table, to appear in PAS
Modulation of CAT-2B-Mediated l-Arginine Uptake and Nitric Oxide Biosynthesis in HCT116 Cell Line Through Biological Activity of 40-Geranyloxyferulic Acid Extract from Quinoa Seeds
Chenopodium quinoa Wild is a “pseudocereal” grain which attracts a lot of attention in
the scientific community as it has a positive effect on health. Here, we investigate the presence of
biologically active O-prenylated phenylpropanoids in the ethanol extract of commercially available
quinoa seeds. We claim that 40-Geranyloxyferulic acid (GOFA) was the only phytochemical product
found that belongs to quinoa’s group secondary metabolites. We studied the changes in the oxidative
and inflammatory status of the cellular environment in HCT 116 cell line processed with quinoa extract
and its component GOFA; the implementation was done through the analysis of the antioxidant
enzymes (SOD and CAT), the pro-inflammatory components (iNOS, IL-6 and TNF-a), and the
products of intermediary metabolism (ONOO-, O2
-). Moreover, the l-arginine uptake was proposed
as a target of the tested compounds. We demonstrated that the GOFA, through a decrease of the
CAT-2B expression, leads to a reduction of the l-arginine uptake, downregulating the harmful iNOS
and restoring the altered redox state. These results propose a new molecular target involved in the
reduction of the critical inflammatory process responsible for the cancer progression

Urban Resilience: From Global Vision to Local Practice - Final Outcome Evaluation of the 100 Resilient Cities Program
Summer hailstorms in Mexico City, weeks-long heat waves in India, hurricane-force winds off the Great Lakes—extreme weather events are becoming commonplace, testing the resilience of local and regional governments across the world. But urban resilience extends beyond weathering climate shocks. It also entails maintaining and improving infrastructure, ecology, economy, and community at the city level. For six years, from 2013 to 2019, the 100 Resilient Cities program sought to boost the capacity of local governments across all facets of urban resilience. Although the program ended earlier than anticipated, its unprecedented breadth of participating cities and scope of intervention provided potential lessons for cities across the world as they prepare for and face an increasingly uncertain future.KEY TAKEAWAYSThe 100 Resilient Cities program included three cohorts of cities from across the globe, each of which experienced three interventions to improve city governance operational and planning capacity for resilience: the creation and selection of a Chief Resilience Officer, the development and publication of a resilience strategy, and the implementation of that strategy, with technical support provided by the program. The Urban Institute monitored and evaluated the core features of the 100 Resilient Cities program for almost seven years, with this final report focusing on the outcomes for city planning and operations attributable to interventions across a 21-city sample. From this program, we believe the following lessons learned can help cities improve their resilience moving forward.Cities must focus on chronic social vulnerability in addition to unexpected shocks. Although cities must be prepared for extreme weather events and civil unrest, both of which can cause extreme devastation, they must also address ongoing issues, such as failing infrastructure and health care accessibility.Chief Resilience Officers and robust networks can facilitate city-to-city learning. As with any program, collaboration and sharing of knowledge can benefit all parties involved. The network of Chief Resilience Officers could advocate for successful resilience strategies from other cities, which could lead to more collaboration in local governments and across regions.Resilient governance requires more voices to be involved in planning and development. Foregrounding inclusion and equity is crucial for building resilience, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn attention to many underlying systemic inequities in countries across the world.Resilience building takes a long time. Despite the necessary urgency of building resilience, solutions take a long time to implement and need consistent funding and support to fulfill their potential. When the 100 Resilient Cities program ended early, many cities had developed plans and strategies but lost the support that would have helped them enact those solutions. Ongoing political and funder support is critical for long-term resilience

The political institutionalization of the social economy in Ecuador: Indigeneity and institutional logics
How differing social economy traditions within the global South can combine with state and market sectors to provide alternative development paths has increasingly become a focus of political and policy debate. This paper uses an institutional logics perspective to analyse the interaction between indigenous collective traditions and other institutional logics in Ecuador’s social economy. Results demonstrate how indigenous practice has interacted with other social economy elements to produce novel organizational and institutional forms. Findings from original primary research identify processes of co-existence, accommodation and conflict in the interaction of differing institutional civil society, state and market logics and the institutionalization of the social economy. Critically, processes of conflict generated by contradictory logics have over time helped close down many of the new political spaces, limiting the ongoing inclusion of indigenous institutions and the ability to construct an alternative, pluralistic path to development
