A case of nimesulide induced toxic epidermal necrolysis

    Get PDF
Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare life-threatening drug-induced mucocutaneous skin disease with a mortality rate of approximately 30%. Nimesulide is a preferential cyclo-oxygenase (COX-2) inhibitor which is frequently used for its antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. Here, we report a case of nimesulide induced toxic epidermal necrolysis in a 57 years old male patient. This patient was admitted in the hospital with symptoms of epidermal sloughing and fluid filled blisters all over the body following over the counter intake of nimesulide for fever. The drug was promptly stopped, and patient was managed with steroids, antibiotics and other adequate supportive measures. The patient showed significant recovery following stoppage of drug and adequate management. This case highlights the importance of nimesulide and other NSAIDs as possible cause of TEN

Prevalence of chironomids in the water, supplied to the hostel of Eastern University

Chironomids are important aquatic macro invertebrates in the world and causing nuisance and serious health impacts to human. The effective removal of Chironomids from water is very important, however it is a very difficult process. Therefore to deal with this problem the present study focuses on the study of the nuisance of Chironomids, their abundance and seasonal variation. Nuisance of Chironomids was studied through informal interviews with students in the hostel and a continuous Chironomid larval nuisance in the hostel water supply was identified between 6.00 am and 7.30 am. The results also indicated the absence of the larvae in the drinking water supply. Skin irritation, reddening of the skin, and red patches in the skin were identified as major health problems caused by Chironomid larvae. The seasonal variation and abundance of Chironomids were studied by weekly counts of the immature Chironomids in the tap water. High abundance of Chironomids was observed in May to August, a low abundance in January to April and very low or no abundance in September to December. It was identified that seasonal variation of Chironomids is related to climatic factors

THERAPEUTIC PROFILING OF NANO ENCAPSULATED DIOSGENIN VIA ATTENUATING HORMONAL STATUS, CELL PROLIFERATION, INFLAMMATORY RESPONSES, AND APOPTOSIS IN AN ANIMAL MODEL OF MAMMARY ONCOGENESIS

Objective: The central motive of this study is to explore the therapeutic impact of Diosgenin encapsulated Chitosan nanoparticles (DG@CS-NP) on mammary carcinogenesis in female Sprague Dawley rats via modulating hormonal status, cell proliferation, inflammatory responses, and Apoptosis. Methods: 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) was administered subcutaneously near the mammary gland (25 mg/kg b. wt) to provoke mammary tumor in female Sprague Dawley rats. Following the progress of a tumor, DMBA-induced tumor-bearing rats were medicated orally with 5 mg/kg b. wt of DG@CS-NP. Consequently, the expression of ER, PR, PCNA, Cyclin D1, NF-κB, TNF-α, Bcl-2, Caspases-3, and p53 in experimental rats were revealed via architectural immunohistochemistry. Further, Diosgenin interactions with these proteins were evidently confirmed by molecular docking analysis. Results: As a result, we noticed diminished levels of ER, PR, PCNA, Cyclin D1, NF-κB, TNF-α, and Bcl-2 expressions in DG@CS-NP medicated rats as well as with elevated levels of Caspases-3 and p53 expressions. In DMBA rats, the expressions were vice versa. Additionally, molecular docking analyses support these outcomes by highlighting the strong interaction between Diosgenin and breast cancer targets. Conclusion: These reports prove that DG@CS-NP imposes its therapeutic impact by hormonal adjustments, downregulating proteins involved in inflammation and cellular proliferation, and thereby promotes apoptosis by impeding apoptotic inhibitors
