Tri-bimaximal and bimaximal neutrino mixing from discrete symmetries

The neutrino oscillation data are well explained by the tri-bimaximal pattern. Recently it has been shown that also the bimaximal pattern could be a very good starting point in order to describe the lepton mixing. In this paper I review both the flavour structures and then I present an explicit example.Comment: 4 pages; Talk given at IFAE 2009: Incontri di Fisica delle Alte Energie, Bari, Italy, 15-17 April 200

Purpose/ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to assess consumer support for policies lowering the sodium content of cafeteria foods in schools.MethodsData were used from 9,634 adults aged 6518 years who responded to questions about sodium in general and in school foods in a 2010 national mail panel survey. Prevalence of consumer support was determined and logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios.ResultsNinety percent (95% CI: 89.1% 1290.8%) of respondents support policies that lower sodium content of cafeteria foods in schools. Support for policies was =78% for all subgroups examined. The odds of support were higher for females, non-Hispanic blacks and Hispanics compared with non-Hispanic whites and respondents who reside in the Northeast compared with the South. Those reporting “neutral” or “yes” to wanting to eat a diet low in sodium were more likely to support policies compared with those answering “no.” In addition, the odds of support were higher for those with incomes between 40,000and40,000 and 59,999 compared to =$60,000 and those with self-reported high blood pressure.Applications to Child Nutrition ProfessionalsResults suggest most adults support policies that lower sodium content of cafeteria foods in schools. School nutrition staff can leverage this support by promoting the healthy changes to school meals to parents and community members and communicating how the school meals contribute to healthful eating behaviors. Additional strategies for change include working with school nutrition stakeholders to adopt and implement strong nutrition standards for all school foods and engaging students to help identify lower sodium recipes that they enjoy.CC999999/ImCDC/Intramural CDC HHSUnited States

PurposeWe assessed public support for required water access in schools and parks and perceived safety and taste of water in these settings to inform efforts to increase access to and consumption of tap water.DesignCross-sectional survey of the U.S. public collected from August to November 2011.SettingRandom-digit dialed telephone survey.SubjectsParticipants (n=1,218) aged 17 and older from 1,055 U.S. counties in 46 states.MeasuresPerceived safety and taste of water in schools and parks as well as support for required access to water in these settings.AnalysisSurvey-adjusted perceived safety and taste as well as support for required access were estimated.ResultsThere was broad support for required access to water throughout the day in schools (96%) and parks (89%). Few participants believed water was unsafe in schools (10%) or parks (18%).ConclusionThis study provides evidence of public support for efforts to increase access to drinking water in schools and parks and documents overall high levels of perceived taste and safety of water provided in these settings.CC999999/ImCDC/Intramural CDC HHS/United StatesU48 DP001946/DP/NCCDPHP CDC HHS/United States2019-01-01T00:00:00Z27698227PMC5378665vault:2220

PurposeTo examine differences in students’ access to school salad bars across sociodemographic groups and changes in availability over time.DesignNonexperimental.SettingNationally representative 2011 and 2014 YouthStyles surveys.ParticipantsA total of 833 (2011) and 994 (2014) US youth aged 12 to 17 years.MeasuresYouth-reported availability of school salad bars.AnalysisMultivariable logistic regression models were used to assess differences in school salad bar availability by socio-demographics and changes in availability from 2011 to 2014.ResultsYouth-reported salad bar availability differed by age in 2011 and race/ethnicity in 2014, but not by sex, income, metropolitan residence, or region in either year. Salad bars were reported by 62% of youth in 2011 and 67% in 2014; the increase was not statistically significant (P = .07). Significant increases from 2011 to 2014 were noted among youth aged 12 to 14 years (56%–69%; P < .01), youth of non-Hispanic other races (60%–85%; P < .01), and youth in the Midwest (58%–72%; P = .01).ConclusionThese results suggest that youth-reported access to school salad bars does not differ significantly across most sociodemographic groups. Although overall salad bar availability did not increase significantly from 2011 to 2014, some increases were observed among subgroups. Continued efforts to promote school salad bars through initiatives such as Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools could help increase access for the nearly one-third of US youth reporting no access.CC999999/Intramural CDC HHS/United States2019-01-01T00:00:00Z29277126PMC5745816vault:2572

Genealogija XIX amžiuje: prievolė ir priemonė versus patyrimas ir emocija

Genealogy and genealogical self-awareness were very important elements of the frame of a noble society’s fortress in the 19th century. The analysis of some genealogical trees, schemes, etc. and the diary-memoir of a noble woman Gabrielė Giunterytė-Puzinienė showed several genealogical aspects treasured by nobles. Family members who were high-ranking soldiers, patrons, or belonged to the clergy were treated very respectfully. Having a wide net of family ties and high-status relatives were a remarkable tool for showing ones family’s origin and position in the society. Wealth played an important role as well. Various official and legal documents, individual contemplations, memories and memoirs of other persons or armorials created by Szymon Okolski and Bartosh Paprocki served as remarkable sources for keeping the genealogical memory of families alive. Genealogical trees, schemes etc. could be treated as more reliable sources for genealogical self-awareness because of the elimination of the subjective viewpoint, as we can face it in the abovementioned diary. Nevertheless, the Giedraitis Family case negated this statement. G. Giunterytė-Puzinienė’s diary-memoir is an extraordinary source for exploring genealogical identity. Genealogy is a vivid and detailed story in this book. One can smell, hear, and touch it. Collective holidays, events, and various forms of recreation became tools for strengthening the genealogical self-awareness and family memory. XIX a.
