Karyotypes of Allium senescens L. ssp. montanum (Fries) Holub populations from the Mt. Biokovo region

    Get PDF
The karyotypes of three Allium senescens ssp. montanum (Fries) Holub populations from the Mt Biokovo region were investigated. This species has been poorly cytogenetically analysed, and with respect to Croatian populations such investigations have never been carried out. The chromosome number, morphology and distribution of heterochromatin were investigated. The number, position and activity of nucleolar organising regions (NORs) were also analysed. In all three populations, only plants with a tetraploid (2n = 4x = 32) chromosome complement were found. The chromosome complement consisted of seven groups of four metacentric and one group of four submetacentric chromosomes bearing the satellite on the short arm. Chromosomes exhibit four types of Giemsa C-bands: telomeric, intercalary, centromeric bands and those located on satellites. Eight chromosomes with the characteristic banding pattern were distinguished. Silver staining revealed a maximum of four nucleoli that corresponded to the maximum number of active NORs (Ag-NORs) located terminally on the short arm of four submetacentric chromosomes. The results obtained suggest that A. senescens ssp. montanum from the Mt Biokovo region is an autotetraploid species

Undertaking systematic research, both broad and narrow, into the flora of Biokovo during recent years, the authors have found, including other vascular plants discovered for the first time here, some localities of the taxon Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst. and Kit. var. dalmatica Reichenb., previously unknown in the flora of Biokovo. In the introductory part the authors quote four known localities from the last century: Murvica near Zadar (ALSCHINGER, 1832), between Puntamika and Bokanjac near Zadar (PETTER, 1832:126), Pokrovnik between Å ibenik and DrniÅ” (VISIANI, 1842:125), around Rijeka (Leg. Schlosser, J. C., det. Vukotinović, L. F., 1878), and one from the sixties of this century: the island Brač: Ā»Gažul Peak at 700 above sea level, Vidova Gora aprox. 740 above the sea level.Ā« (PAVLETIĆ, Zi., 1964:149). New localities of findings on Biokovo are at about 1000 m above sea level, although one locality was found even at 400 m above sea level, and some are at the height of 1200 m.Istražujući posljednjih godina sustavno floru Biokova u užem i Å”irem smislu autori su, pored drugih novih nalaza vaskularnih biljaka, na ovom području pronaÅ”li nekoliko lokaliteta taksona Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst.

This work presents new items in the flora of the ferns (Filicopsida) on the Biokovo massf that have not been observed on this mountain prevously. The following species are concerned: Asplenium fissum Kit. ex Willd., Polypodium cambricum L., Cheilanthes acrostica (Balbis) Tod. and Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn.U radu se iznose noviteti u flori paprati (Filicopsida) biokovskog masiva, koji do sada nisu konstatirani na ovoj planini. Te vrste su sljedeće: Asplenium fissum Kit. ex Willd., Polypodium cambricum L., Cheilanthes acrostica (Balbis) Tod. i Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn

Shoot and root regeneration from callus tissue of Allium commutatum Guss.

    Get PDF
Callus tissue was induced on root tips of in vitro cultured seedlings of Allium commutatum Guss. on MS medium supplemented with 3 % sucrose, 0.8 % agar, 4.5 Ī¼M 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 4.6 Ī¼M kinetin. Pieces of developed calli were transferred to MS medium with different concentrations of 2,4-D (0.02, 0.05 and 0.1 Ī¼M) and kinetin (0.02, 0.1 and 0.5 Ī¼M) or without them. After five weeks of cultivation, callus proliferation and differentiation as well as adventitious shoot and root regeneration were analysed. The best callus proliferation and adventitious root induction were achieved on MS medium containing 0.1 and 0.5 Ī¼M kinetin; addition of 2,4-D had no significant influence. Higher concentrations of kinetin also favoured higher incidence of meristemoids. Adventitious shoot development was noticed only on three media tested

Chemical composition of the essential oil of Stachys menthifolia Vis.

    No full text
The essential oil composition of Commiphora erythraea (Ehrenb) Engl. is reported for the first time. The oil is rich in sesquiterpenes, particularly furanosesquiterpenes (50.3%). GC-MS analysis of the oil permitted differentiation between C. erythraea and C. kataf, two often confused species

Volatiles of <i>Helichrysum italicum</i> (Roth) G. Don from Croatia

    No full text
<div><p><i>Helichrysum italicum</i> (Roth) G. Don is a flowering plant of the family Asteraceae. It is rich in oil that is used for different medicinal purposes and in fragrance industry. Volatile profile of four populations of <i>H. italicum,</i> collected from natural habitat in Dalmatia (Croatia), was analysed by capillary GCā€“MS. Sample from BraČ Island had Ī±-<i>trans</i>-bergamotene (10.2%) and Ī²-acoradiene (10.1%) as the majors, whereas sample collected on Biokovo Mt. was rich in neryl acetate (8.1%). Ī²-Acoradiene was also the main constituent of sample collected near Tijarica, whereas rosifoliol (8.5%) was the most abundant constituent in sample collected near Makarska. Presented results show the influence of environmental conditions on chemical differentiation of the volatiles of <i>H. italicum</i> from Croatia.</p></div
