PRODUCCIÓN CIENTÍFICA ESTUDIANTIL BASADRINA EN LA FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS MÉDICAS: PROBLEMA Y POSIBILIDAD

Todo este planteamiento nacional no es en nada ajeno a la realidad en nuestra localidad, reflejo de ello es la deficiente participación estudiantil en las Jornadas Científicas que se organizan en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, así como en la Revista Médica Basadrina. Por tanto, es necesario estructurar un plan estratégico, sustentado en evidencias científicas, con acciones a corto, mediano y largo plazo, que impulsen una reforma científica con planteamientos no solo a nivel curricular sino también extracurricular. Además, pugnar por estos cambios, amerita necesariamente la anexión de los diferentes centros estudiantiles, así como de una política estudiantil identificada y comprometida con el progreso de su Facultad. En suma, problema es en efecto y por desgracia, la investigación en nuestro pregrado, pero felizmente también posibilidad

CONOCIMIENTOS SOBRE SOPORTE VITAL BÁSICO Y PRIMEROS AUXILIOS EN EL PREGRADO MÉDICO BASADRINO

Introducción: La prestación de soporte vital básico y primeros auxilios (SVB y PA) constituye una responsabilidad de los servicios básicos de salud, por tanto, sus conocimientos son indispensables para cualquier persona, y sobre todo fundamentales para los profesionales de la salud. Objetivo: Este estudio busca determinar el nivel de conocimientos sobre SVB y PA en los estudiantes de Medicina Humana de la Universidad Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann de Tacna, Perú. Material y métodos: Estudio de corte transversal, que consideró como población estimada al total de estudiantes matriculados, aplicándoseles una encuesta dirigida previamente validada, que midió el nivel de conocimientos ante emergencias, clasificándose en cuatro categorías, excelente, bueno, regular o malo. Resultados: El análisis consideró a 171 cuestionarios. Del total de estudiantes encuestados, sólo 9 (5,3%) presentaron un buen nivel de conocimientos y ninguno fue clasificado como excelente. La relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y la capacitación previa, muestra una asociación significativa. Conclusiones: El nivel de conocimientos sobre aspectos generales de SVB y PA es malo en la gran mayoría, y fue un factor protector el haber recibido tus curso previamente

Fungal biofilm associated with long-term central venous access device: Complications and therapeutic difficulties

Fungal infections associated with biofilms in biomedical devices are refractory to antifungal treatment and usually require the timely removal of the device, as well as the administration of systemic antifungals. We present the case of a 36-yearold female patient who received pain therapy administered by a Port-A-Cath long-term central venous access device. She developed catheter-related candidemi a and endocarditis caused by Candida parapsilosis. The catheter had to be removed by thoracotomy due to persistent infection despite the systemic antifungal therapy. An extensive biofilm surrounding the catheter was observed and Candida parapsilosis was isolated. Six weeks of antifungal treatment with a favorable clinical evolution were completed

During last months, there have been a significant increase in the evidences showing the catastrophic health situation in Venezuela. There are multiple epidemics, increase in emerging and reemerging infectious, tropical and parasitic diseases as consequences of the social, economic and political crises, which would be considered today a clearly anthropogenic disaster. Venezuela is facing in 2019, the worse sanitary conditions, with multiple implications for public health and travel medicine. So far, from a global perspective, this situation will be an impediment for the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDG) in 2030. In this multiauthor review, there is a comprehensive analysis of the situation for infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, their impact in the Americas region, given the migration crisis as well as the comparative status of the SDG 2030. This discussion can provide input for prioritizing emerging health problems and establish a future agenda
