    Immersing Islamic value in English language teaching: a challenge for English teachers

    Recently the issue of integrating religion view into all life aspects has emerged rapidly. It has something to do with building especially children’s character since they were a child. Moreover, cases of students who lack of norms and attitudes are growing immensely. Hence, the integration of religion in this case Islamic value into all subjects at school is urgently needed. In English Language Teaching (ELT), immersing Islamic value has been constrains by English Teachers because of the limitation of knowledge. Therefore, this paper presents and discusses the values and ethics in Islam its forms and sources. It shades more lights on the infusion of Islamic values and ethics in ELT, the role of teachers, challenges faced in embedding Islamic values into English materials. This paper uses qualitative descriptive research. Library research was used by taking into account some journals and sources related with instilling Islamic values in English teaching. The data then is explained by using descriptive analysis. Finally, this study concludes with some recommendations for tracking the challenges such as inserting exercise with Islamic values in the English topics, using Islamic names for person, event or places, connecting the relevant verse of Holy Book or using it as the material to be translated and using English books containing Islamic messages

    The Covid -19 pandemic has affected all aspect of human’s life including the educational institution. All the activities are then held mostly online. Many online platform are used as a tool to interact between teacher and students. Despite their massive growth in online teaching, little research has been conducted about the use of online language learning community in learning foreign language. The aim of this study is to examine the use of Livemocha to learn foreign language independently. This study uses autoethnography method which uses the researcher personal experience to describe and analyze the data. Result of this study shows that the site is useful for learning English independently. This study concludes with suggestions for English Learning through social networking site

    Patriarchal hegemony in the novel “Women at Point Zero” by Nawal el Saadawi

    This study aims to describe and analyze the forms of patriarchal hegemony in the novel Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi. The patriarchal hegemony is then correlated with the teachings of Islam, which are often seen as supporting the domination of men. It is a literary criticism that analyzes and interprets literary work. Sylvia Walby’s six structures of patriarchy theory and Gramsci’s theory were used to analyze the data. The data were taken from the written work of Woman at Point Zero English Translation published in 2007. Data were taken by identifying, classifying, and analyzing the data by decoding them with the theories. The result of this study shows the variety of gender injustice and biases in the form of physical, verbal, sexual abuse, marginalization, and exploitation of women in the work. The implication of the research is to provide concrete evidence that Islamic teaching never provokes man domination and patriarchal practices over the woman

    Diction is the selection of the right words to form sentences that meet the requirements, have a harmonious meaning, and are successfully communicated to the listener so that language misunderstandings do not occur. Based on its meaning, diction in this research is separated into two categories: denotational meaning and connotative meaning. This research aims to describe the types of diction found in the novel A Good Girl's Guide to Murdered by Holly Jackson. In this research we used qualitative methods to obtain data, in this qualitative approach, we used a case study approach. The data collection technique in this method is by describing or investigating the subject or object. Descriptive methods are also used for research procedures or solving problems that are investigated by describing subjects or objects as well. Based on the results of the data analysis, there are two types of diction based on meaning. The novel also succeeded in making readers feel what was written in the novel. For this reason, the author has also succeeded in making readers enjoy the plot of the story while the most dominant meaning is that the research is widely used because it fits the context of the story in the novel

Therefore, the community service that is carried out for PKK women in Karangploso View is expected to improve English communication by parents at home better. The community service aims to increase the English skill of the member of PKK mothers. The method used in this activity is the Participatory Action Study (PAR). From community service, you are more confident in speaking English with your child at home, you have your own way of communicating in English according to the character of your child, and your child has an increase in his daily vocabulary in English at home. It is implicated that parents especially mothers can teach English at home by themselves and get used children to start using English from a young age

    The novel ‘Your Name’ by Makoto Shinkai is a popular Japanese romance story that revolves around the body swap phenomenon between two high school students, Taki and Mitsuha, who live in different places and have different backgrounds. The novel explores the psychological aspects of their relationship, such as their identity, personality, emotions, and communication, as well as the external factors that affect their romance, such as their culture, environment, and destiny. This research paper aims to analyze the romantic conflicts that arise from the psychological and external factors in the novel, and to examine their relevance in the lives of contemporary college students who may face similar challenges in their romantic relationships. The research method used is a qualitative approach, using Freud’s theory of personality The data sources are the novel itself and some related literature. The data analysis is done by identifying, categorizing, and interpreting the data based on the research questions and the theoretical framework. The results of the analysis show that the romantic conflicts in the novel are caused by the following factors: the id-ego-superego dynamics, the identity crisis, and the communication barriers. The research also finds that these factors are relevant in the lives of contemporary college students, who may experience similar conflicts in their romantic relationships due to the influence of globalization, technology, social media, and individualism. The research concludes that the novel ‘Your Name’ provides a realistic and relatable portrayal of the romantic conflicts that may occur in modern society, and that the novel can be used as a source of inspiration and guidance for college students who want to overcome their romantic problems and achieve a harmonious and fulfilling relationship

    This study investigated the use of narrative text in teaching reading comprehension. It aims to find out the implementation of teaching reading comprehension through narrative text and the teacher's preception toward reading comprehension through narrative text. This study is descriptive qualitative method using observation and interview to collect the data since the intended results is the brief description of teaching reading comprehension. The finding of the study shows how the teacher implemented narrative text in teaching reading comprehension. It also shows the students’ understanding during the explanation of the content of narrative text. The students got a lot of vocabularies and new knowledge including the moral message implied in narrative text. Teaching reading comprehension through narrative text can boost the motivation of students and the students are more active in the class
