Analyse du succès des organisations touristiques suisses sur les médias sociaux

    Get PDF

Mandible extensive intra osseous destructive lesion, a diagnostic challenge

    No full text
International audienceIntraosseous verrucous carcinoma of the mandible is a rare situation often confused with chronic osteomyelitis. Despite the low aggressively of the tumor, prognosis is poor because of delayed diagnosis. We report 3 cases, from three different hospitals, initially diagnosed with a chronic osteomyelitis of the mandible after wisdom extraction. Imaging, bacteriological and histological samples supported each time this interpretation. The 3 patients worsened with intraosseous extension of the lesions and outflow of whitish and purulent debris. Only extensive resection with mandibulectomy allow the pathologists to identify the tumor. Adjuvant radiotherapy or radiochemiotherapy followed the surgery. One patient is in clinical remission. In front of mandible lesion resistant to antibiotic therapy and sequestrum resection, atypical squamous cell carcinoma must be evoked. MRI and CT-scan are not able to distinguish osteomyelitis and intraosseous verrucous carcinoma. Presence of whitish lysed and debris of keratin must draw the attention. Firm evidence must be provided to the pathologist but samples should be wide and thick

Coprecipitation of nickel zinc malonate: A facile and reproducible synthesis route for Ni1-xZnxO nanoparticles and Ni1-xZnxO/ZnO nanocomposites via pyrolysis

Nanoparticles of Ni1-xZnxO and Ni1-xZnxO/ZnO, which can be good candidates for selective gas sensors, were successfully obtained via a two-step synthetic route, in which the nickel zinc malonate precursor was first synthesized by co-precipitation from an aqueous solution, followed by pyrolysis in air at a relatively low temperature (~500 °C). The precursor was characterized by ICP-AES, FTIR and TG and the results indicate the molecular structure of the precursor to be compatible with Ni1-xZnx(OOCCH2COO).2H2O. The decomposition product, characterized using various techniques (FTIR, XRD, ToF-SIMS, SEM, TEM and XPS), was established to be a doped nickel oxide (Ni1-xZnxO for 0.01≤ x ≤0.1) and a composite material (Ni1-xZnxO/ZnO for 0.2≤ x≤0.5). To elucidate the form in which the Zn is present in the NiO structure, three analytical techniques were employed: ToF-SIMS, XRD and XPS. While ToF SIMS provided a direct evidence of the presence of Zn in the NiO crystal structure, XRD showed that Zn actually substitutes Ni in the structure and XPS is a bit more specific by indicating that the Zn is present in the form of Zn2+ ions

Characteristics and outcome of prostate cancer with PSA <4 ng/ml at diagnosis: a population-based study

    No full text
This population-based study aims to assess prognosis of prostate cancer diagnosed with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels <4 ng/ml in routine care. Materials and methods We compared prostate cancer patients with low PSA values (n=59) with other prostate cancer patients (n=1330) by logistic regression and the Cox model using data from the Geneva Cancer Registry. Results Patients with low PSA values more frequently had early-stage and well differentiated tumours. Nevertheless, 35% presented with aggressive tumour characteristics or metastases. After adjustment for other prognostic factors, prostate cancer-specific mortality was similar for both groups (hazard ratio: 1.1; 95%CI: 0.6-2.2). Conclusion We conclude that cancer with low PSA values at diagnosis is not indolent
