The present research sought to understand the experiences of the Administrative Technicians in Education servants of a Federal Institution of Higher Education, in the context of deflexibilization of the working day, in the light of Psychodynamics of Work theory. The deflexibilization process is understood here as a return to the working day that had once been made flexible. Methodologically, the triangulation of mixed methods was used due to the complexity of the study. It was decided to apply the Inventory on Work and Risks of Illness (ITRA, in its acronym in Portuguese) to understand the general scenario of the institution and, later, a focus group was constituted to collect qualitative information. For analysis of quantitative data, descriptive statistics was used and, for qualitative data, content analysis. The research empirically confirmed that the experiences of pathogenic suffering have been established in the effective work of these Administrative Technicians in Education, which are being potentiated by the process of deflexibilization of the working day, and that the institution operates promoting high risks of illness of these professionals.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films have innumerable applications, and the preparation of nanocomposites based on TiO2 favors the coupling of different structures that can lead to additional or enhanced properties. The aim of this chapter is to show the preparation and characterization of TiO2 thin films and some nanocomposites based on anatase-TiO2, prepared by sol-gel process using the dip-coating technique. TiO2 thin films were prepared by sol-gel process onto borosilicate glass, steel, magnet, and silicon substrates from alcoholic starting solutions containing titanium isopropoxide, isopropyl alcohol, and acids to the control of the velocity of gelation. The doped thin films, such as SiO2/TiO2, Ag/TiO2, and Nb/TiO2, were prepared adding the dopants in a form of salts or alkoxides in starting solution. The morphological, structural, and textural characterization of the films was made using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) detector, atomic force microscopy/nanoindentation, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Photoelectrical, mechanical, biological, optical, and surface properties were evaluated

The study analyzed the body image satisfaction of girls from different age groups of a private school of Marechal Candido Rondon - Pr. The sample consisted of 82 girls, aged between 11 and 14 years. Anthropometric measurements of body mass and height were obtained for the determination of body mass index (BMI). The Kakeshita body scale was used to evaluate body image satisfaction. Comparisons of the proportions of BMI classifications, satisfaction with body image and the desire to increase or reduce body scale were performed between the age groups, with the binomial test. The same variables had their proportions compared between the age groups with the chi-square test (χ2). All analyzes were performed with a previously established level of significance (α = 0.05). The results showed that 63.8% of the girls studied had BMI within the expected range and only 36.2% presented with overweight (p = 0.001) and obesity (p<0.001). However, 81.7% (p<0.001) of the girls were dissatisfied with their bodies, and 91% (p<0.05) wished to be with leaner bodies. Based on the results, most of the girls showed dissatisfaction with their body image

A distributed computation of Interpro Pfam, PROSITE and ProDom for protein annotation

Interpro is a widely used tool for protein annotation in genome sequencing projects, demanding a large amount of computation and representing a huge time-consuming step. We present a strategy to execute programs using databases Pfam, PROSITE and ProDom of Interpro in a distributed environment using a Java-based messaging system. We developed a two-layer scheduling architecture of the distributed infrastructure. Then, we made experiments and analyzed the results. Our distributed system gave much better results than Interpro Pfam, PROSITE and ProDom running in a centralized platform. This approach seems to be appropriate and promising for highly demanding computational tools used for biological applications

miRIAD-integrating microRNA inter- and intragenic data

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small (similar to 22 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression by interacting with target mRNAs. A majority of miRNAs is located within intronic or exonic regions of protein-coding genes (host genes), and increasing evidence suggests a functional relationship between these miRNAs and their host genes. Here, we introduce miRIAD, a web-service to facilitate the analysis of genomic and structural features of intragenic miRNAs and their host genes for five species (human, rhesus monkey, mouse, chicken and opossum). miRIAD contains the genomic classification of all miRNAs (inter-and intragenic), as well as classification of all protein-coding genes into host or non-host genes (depending on whether they contain an intragenic miRNA or not). We collected and processed public data from several sources to provide a clear visualization of relevant knowledge related to intragenic miRNAs, such as host gene function, genomic context, names of and references to intragenic miRNAs, miRNA binding sites, clusters of intragenic miRNAs, miRNA and host gene expression across different tissues and expression correlation for intragenic miRNAs and their host genes. Protein-protein interaction data are also presented for functional network analysis of host genes. In summary, miRIAD was designed to help the research community to explore, in a user-friendly environment, intragenic miRNAs, their host genes and functional annotations with minimal effort, facilitating hypothesis generation and in-silico validations
