Como es una especie de introducción, que entiendo que debe ser cortita, he escogido que en vez de hablar de mis obras, voy a hablar de mis preocupaciones. Entre otras razones porque creo que casi es más interesante hacer público señalar cosas que hacen falta tanto de investigación, como de análisis y de elementos de trabajo. Y en ese sentido voy a hablar sobre todo de mis dudas en ese límite entre los que hacen los urbanistas y lo que hacen los arquitectos; porque cada vez veo más imposible de separar una cosa de la otra

Restauración de la iluminación natural

This article tackles the problem of the distorsion of spatial values in buildings brought about by altering original natural illumination. This phenomenon is on the increase do to the installation of artificial electrical lighting in structures that were planned and built before these systems came into use. Said lighting systems attempt to substitute solar light but fail to respect the atmosphere created by natural light in these structures. The article looks at three buildings which are representative of Spanish architecture: the Prado Museum in Madrid, the Monastery of El Escorial and Córdoba's "Mezquita" (Mosque).Este comentario aborda el problema de la desvirtuación de los valores espaciales que se plantea en los edificios al alterar las condiciones de la iluminación natural originales. Señala su incidencia creciente a partir de la instalación, en arquitecturas que habían sido construidas con anterioridad al uso de estos sistemas, de iluminaciones artificiales eléctricas que intentan sustituir a la luz solar sin respetar los efectos ambientales creados por ella. Toma como ejemplo tres edificios arquetípicos en la Arquitectura española: el Museo del Prado de Madrid, el Monasterio de El Escorial y la Mezquita de Córdoba

Los distintos modos de grafiar las presentaciones en los concursos de arquitectura, son un modelo para la enseñanza de las retóricas arquitectónicas y una manera de preparar a los futuros rquitectos para conseguir trabajo en el mundo profesional

Dibujo y realidad arquitectónica en los Premios Pritzker

Para contestar algunas de las preguntas que plantea el Congreso nos hemos propuesto observar “el papel y la responsabilidad del dibujo en la arquitectura, que persigue el éxito mediático y en la arquitectura que realmente construye”. Nos proponemos estudiar cómo y en qué sentido se premian unos ciertos procederes profesionales, y cual es la valoración del dibujo asociado en los Premios Pritzker. A lo largo de los 29 años transcurridos se han otorgado estas distinciones que cuentan con una consideración general y difusión global. El premio Pritzker, otorga una marca de calidad, a arquitectos con obra construida, e inmediatamente tiene un efecto lanzadera para el éxito mediático, lo que le convierte en un buen objeto de análisis para los intereses del congreso. Energy rehabilitation of social housing for rent, as demonstrator in the LIFE 'New4Old' Project

The main goal of the cofounded by the European Commission LIFE Project, New4Old (LIFE10 ENV/ES/439), is to define the most appropriate method and the best available practice in social housing rehabilitation with energy and environmental sustainability criteria, as well as to apply innovative technologies in the fight against climate change through an efficient use of resources and energy. The institutions involved in the Project are the Technological Centre AITEMIN, Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM), Portugal Technological Centre for Ceramics and Glass (CTCV) and the Zaragoza City Housing Society (SMZV). The demonstrator project consists in the energy rehabilitation of a rental social housing building located in Zaragoza?s historic quarter, according to the conclusions and strategies developed for the LIFE project. In actions taken in households of this nature passive design strategies are essential due to the limited income of owners, who often cannot afford energy bills. Therefore, the proposed actions will help improve the building?s passive performance and reach a higher thermal comfort, without increasing the economic cost linked to energy consumption

Urban heat island of Madrid and its influence over urban thermal comfort

This work is part of the activities MODIFICA Project: Predictive model of the energy performance of residential buildings under conditions of urban heat island (BIA2013-41732-R). This project is funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through the R + D + i, 2013 program, and the authors are involved in their development, together with the research group Bioclimatic Architecture in a Sustainable Environment - ABIO (UPM). The hypothesis of the project is the fact that the transformation of land for urban growth in the city of Madrid potentiates the effect of the urban heat island (UHI), which modifies substantially in the urban microclimate. The UHI is the result of the gradual replacement of natural Surface by the urban area, whose surfaces absorb more solar radiation. This, coupled with other anthropogenic factors, increase the air temperature and cause an increase in local temperature. The consequence is a modification of the urban microclimate that affects to the comfort conditions in urban space and to the energy performance of buildings and, therefore, to the quality of life of the inhabitants

Social Rent Housing Refurbishment Demonstrator of LIFE Project “New4Old” (LIFE10 ENV/ES/439)

This ecoefficient renovation of two buildings of social housing for rent is located in the historic center of Zaragoza and has been carried out among 2013 and 2015. It emerges from the conclusions and strategies developed for the NewSolutions4OldHousing project (LIFE10 ENV / ES / 439), funded by the European Commission. The general objective of LIFE project is to define the most appropriate methodology for the rehabilitation of social housing with criteria of energy and environmental sustainability and application of innovative technologies to combat climate change. The application of passive strategies in the refurbishment of these Demonstrator Buildings has helped to achieve thermal and lighting comfort with less energy-consumption, with savings above 70% in demand and about 25% in real consumption. These data are particularly relevant when the residents are renters with very limited incomes, vulnerable to problems such as energy poverty. Therefore, the proposed action serves to improve the passive behaviour of the building and to achieve greater thermal and lighting comfort and liability without increasing the financial costs related to energy consumption
