    From Development's Disasters to Disasters' Development: The Territorial Expression of Vulnerability

    O texto aborda o tema da relação entre desastre e desenvolvimento regional, com o objetivo de examinar o debate teórico e empírico sobre as relações entre desenvolvimento e desastre. Argumenta que os desastres podem ser considerados uma indicação de desenvolvimento: quanto maior o impacto dos desastres numa região, menos sustentável é o padrão predominante de desenvolvimento. Para desenvolver esse argumento o texto foi dividido em quatro partes principais: a) padrões globais de vulnerabilidade a desastres; b) a relação entre desenvolvimento e desastres; c) impactos territoriais dos desastres; e d) considerações finais.This paper addresses the issue of the relationship between disaster and regional development, with the goal of examine the theoretical and empirical debate on the relationship between development and disaster. It argues that disasters can be considered as a development indicator: the higher the impact of disasters in a region, the less sustainable is the predominant pattern of development. To develop this argument the text was divided into four main parts: a) vulnerability of global standards to disasters; b) the relationship between development and disaster; c) territorial impacts of disasters; and d) final considerations

    Asymmetries in the application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in different phases of Disaster Risk Management (DRM)

    This article aims to highlight the knowledge gaps identified in the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in the different phases of Disaster Risk Management (DRM). To this end, a bibliographic review of 254 articles reporting on UAVs and natural disasters in the period 2000-2020 is presented. To select a sample of publications that address the relationship between drones and natural disasters, from 2000 to 2020, quantitative searches were made on the Google Scholar. Only the articles published in journals or events were considered for this purpose. The searches were carried out using the following terms: disasters; hazards; risk; natural disasters; UAV; drone. The linguistic variation of the terms was also considered (terms in English, Spanish and Portuguese). As a main finding, it is argued that there are few studies on the use of UAVs in risk mitigation in the pre-disaster phase. To develop this argument, the article begins with a discussion of the structure of DRM, then addresses the use of drones in natural disasters, and finally develops a critique of the asymmetry that exists in the use of UAVs in DRM

    Toxicity by metsulfuron-methyl in the establishment of the soybean crop submitted to seed treatment

    Different management strategies and products can be adopted for weed control and seed treatment. This study evaluated the effect of metsulfuron-methyl application on the establishment of soybean (Glycine max Merril. L) at two herbicide application times and in response to micronutrient and amino acid seed treatment. The soybean seeds, cultivar Nidera 5909, were submitted to the following treatments: control (without treatment); amino acid; micronutrient 1 (a product containing amino acids from seaweed, cobalt, and molybdenum) and micronutrient 2 (a product containing amino acids from seaweed). The sowing periods occurred 15 days after the herbicide application or immediately after its application. We evaluated the emergence of seedlings at seven and 14 days after sowing (DAS), and the dry matters of roots and shoots at 14 and 21 DAS. The metsulfuron-methyl affected the seedling emergence at seven days after the sowing in seed treated with micronutrient 1 immediately after the herbicide application. At 21 DAS, a reduction in the dry mass of seedling roots was observed, which sowing occurred immediately after the application of the herbicide. The application of metsulfuron-methyl at sowing may damage the establishment and performance of soybean seedlings. Therefore, it is important to carry out sowing respecting the period of carryover effects from the herbicide, in order to prevent phytotoxicity symptoms to the soybean crop. Different management strategies and products can be adopted for weed control and seed treatment.
