Hybrid Distributed Computing Infrastructure Experiments in Grid5000 : Supporting QoS in Desktop Grids with Cloud Resources

    Get PDF
International audienceHybrid Distributed Computing Infrastructures (DCIs) allow users to combine Grids, Desktop Grids, Clouds, etc. to obtain for their users even larger computing capabilities. In this paper, we present an experimental study of the SpeQuloS framework which aims at providing QoS to Desktop Grid by provisioning on-demand Cloud resources. We describe the experimental platform which relies on Grid5000 to mimic both a Desktop Grid system and a Cloud system. Preliminary results are presented which shows the potential of the SpeQuloS approach

E-Fast & CloudPower: Towards High Performance Technical Analysis for Small Investors

    Get PDF
International audienceAbout 80% of the financial market investors fail, the main reason for this being their poor investment decisions. Without advanced financial analysis tools and the knowledge to interpret the analysis, the investors can easily make irrational investment decisions. Moreover, investors are challenged by the dynamism of the market and a relatively large number of indicators that must be computed. In this paper we propose E-Fast, an innovative approach for on-line technical analysis for helping small investors to obtain a greater e on the market by increasing their knowledge. The E-Fast technical analysis platform prototype relies on High Performance Computing (HPC), allowing to rapidly develop and extensively validate the most sophisticated finance analysis algorithms. In this work, we aim at demonstrating that the E-Fast implementation , based on the CloudPower HPC infrastructure, is able to provide small investors a realistic, low-cost and secure service that would otherwise be available only to the large financial institutions. We describe the architecture of our system and provide design insights. We present the results obtained with a real service implementation based on the Exponential Moving Average computational method, using CloudPower and Grid5000 for the computations' acceleration. We also elaborate a set of interesting challenges emerging from this work, as next steps towards high performance technical analysis for small investors

Auger & XtremWeb: Monte Carlo computation on a global computing platform

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, we present XtremWeb, a Global Computing platform used to generate monte carlos showers in Auger, an HEP experiment to study the highest energy cosmic rays at Mallargue-Mendoza, Argentina.XtremWeb main goal, as a Global Computing platform, is to compute distributed applications using idle time of widely interconnected machines. It is especially dedicated to -but not limited to- multi-parameters applications such as monte carlos computations; its security mechanisms ensuring not only hosts integrity but also results certification and its fault tolerant features, encouraged us to test it and, finally, to deploy it as to support our CPU needs to simulate showers. We first introduce Auger computing needs and how Global Computing could help. We then detail XtremWeb architecture and goals. The fourth and last part presents the profits we have gained to choose this platform. We conclude on what could be done next

CYCLONE Unified Deployment and Management of Federated, Multi-Cloud Applications

Various Cloud layers have to work in concert in order to manage and deploy complex multi-cloud applications, executing sophisticated workflows for Cloud resource deployment, activation, adjustment, interaction, and monitoring. While there are ample solutions for managing individual Cloud aspects (e.g. network controllers, deployment tools, and application security software), there are no well-integrated suites for managing an entire multi cloud environment with multiple providers and deployment models. This paper presents the CYCLONE architecture that integrates a number of existing solutions to create an open, unified, holistic Cloud management platform for multi-cloud applications, tailored to the needs of research organizations and SMEs. It discusses major challenges in providing a network and security infrastructure for the Intercloud and concludes with the demonstration how the architecture is implemented in a real life bioinformatics use case

This document provides the first deliverable of EDGI JRA2. It is produced by the INRIA team, the SZTAKI team, the LAL/IN2P3 team and the University of Coimbra team. This document aims at describing achievements and results of JRA2 tasks "Advanced QoS Scheduler and Oracle" and "Support In Science Gateway". Hybrid Distributed Computing Infrastructures (DCIs) allow users to combine Grids, Desktop Grids, Clouds, etc. to obtain for their users large computing capabilities. The EDGI infrastructure belongs to this kind of DCIs. The document presents the SpeQuloS framework to provide quality of service (QoS) for application executed on the EDGI infrastructure. It also introduces EDGI QoS portal, an user-friendly and integrated access to QoS features for users of EDGI infrastructure. In this document, we first introduce new results from JRA2.1 task, which collected and analyzed batch execution on Desktop Grid. Then, we present the advanced Cloud Scheduling and Oracle strategies designed inside the SpeQuloS framework (task JRA2.2). We demonstrate efficiency of these strategies using performance evaluation carried out with simulations. Next, we introduce Credit System architecture and QoS user portal as part of the JRA2 Support In Science Gateway (task JRA2.3). Finally, we conclude and provide references to JRA2 production.
