Role Strain of Nursing Students in Obstetrical Clinical Rotations: Is Role Strain Greater for Male Students?

As increasing numbers of men enter the career of nursing, it is important that nursing educators identify areas of role strain and learning needs that may be different from their female counterparts This research project examined the role strain factors of nursing students who have completed the maternaVnewbom (obstetrical) clinical experience in a baccalaureate nursing program. The research question addressed in this research project was: Do male nursing students experience greater role strain than female nursing students in the matemaVnewbom setting? A convenience sample of male students (N=23) and a random sampling of female students (N=23) participated in this study. The Junior and Senior level nursing students who had completed the obstetrical rotation within the last 3 semesters were recruited to complete the Sherrod Role Strain Scale ( 40 question Likert scale survey tool) at specified times during fall semester 2008. Data was analyzed as grouped data and female/male responses were also compared. The overall score showed no gender differences in role strain (p value= 0.917). The four subcategories (Overload, Conflict, Incongruity, and Ambiguity) also did not reflect gender differences in this sample. The findings of this study did not support the concept of male students experiencing greater role strain than their female counterparts. Further studies examining role strain factors, student perceptions of role strain, and comparing men students in various nursing programs are recommended

ICT Production and Productivity in Sweden and Finland, 1975-2004

This article compares the development of labour productivity in the Swedish and the Finnish business sectors and the role of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in this process. The results show that the Finnish productivity level has been converging towards the Swedish level, but that there is still a significant difference. This trend has coincided with the growing importance of the ICT sector, especially since the mid 1990s. Due to higher productivity and employment growth, the Finnish ICT sector has contributed to this convergence. This is explained by the electrical engineering industry. Convention Relating to a Uniform law on the Formation of Contracts for the International Sale of Goods

Many infrastructural projects have cost overruns and there has been a lot of research both on whythese cost overruns occur and what can be done to reduce cost overruns. Bent Flyvbjerg is the leadingresearcher in the area and in this article his proposals are also the starting point. Beside a literaturereview a questionnaire was also sent out to experienced Swedish project managers to find out whatthey thought could reduce cost overruns. This has been the foundation for the proposals formulated inthis article. Proposals concerns three areas 1. Organizational macro-structure, e.g. using more PPPprojectsbut also decentralization of budgets where cost-overruns in one project in a region leads toless other projects in the specific region. 2. The Framework of Anglo-Soviet Commercial Relations: The British View

Considering that a majority of elderlies are non-users of computers and Internet we developed a telemonitoring system for elderly heart failure (HF) home care patients based on digital pen technology - a technology never used before by this patient group. We implemented the system in clinical use in a 13 months long study. Fourteen patients (mean/median age 84 years) with severe HF participated. They accepted the technology and performed daily reports of their health state using the digital pen and a Health Diary form. Via the system the clinicians detected all HF-related deteriorations at an early stage and thereby prevented hospital re-admissions for all patients during the study, implying improved symptom control and large cost savings
