    Understanding Post-adoption Usage of Mobile Data Services: The Role of Supplier-side Variables

    This study investigates factors that affect usage changes in mobile data services (MDS). First, we conducted an exploratory study based on 378 survey responses to learn about important decision factors of MDS usage. It revealed a discrepancy between the forces influencing usage increase and those of usage decrease. Based on the findings from the exploratory study and Hertzberg’s two-factor theory, we postulated information quality as the motivator and system quality as the de-motivator of MDS usage. Then, we undertook a confirmative study on the respective roles of these factors in encouraging and discouraging the usage of MDS. We proposed a research model and empirically tested our hypotheses with partial least square (PLS) analysis based on 478 responses from MDS users. Information quality (as a motivator) was positively associated with MDS usage increase, but system quality (as a de-motivator) was not. Also, system quality was negatively associated with usage decrease, but information quality was not. Last, their association was partially moderated by the type of motivation for using MDS. Information quality had a stronger influence on MDS usage increase when the main motive was utilitarian rather than hedonic

    Dynamics of Portal Email Switching: Attractive Alternatives and Switching Costs

    Internet portals have been using the email service to attract new members and to retain existing customers. This research aims to enhance the understanding of mechanisms associated to users\u27 intention for email switching (IES). We have employed customer\u27s satisfaction on email service, attractive alternatives, and switching cost to explain the dynamics of IES. Customer\u27s satisfaction is measured in terms of storage capacity, spam blocking, interface design, and system stability variables. Setup cost and continuity cost are chosen as switching costs. By conducting a survey with 1,408 responses, we have found the vital importance of user satisfaction for service continuation. Variables of attractive alternatives and continuity cost demonstrated its strong association with IES. We have also found that attractive alternatives moderates the relationship of customers’ satisfaction and IES, but the moderating effects of switching cost are weak. Our investigation indicates that the findings of extant studies on the dynamics of service switching or re-purchase mostly apply to the email service as well

    An Empirical Study on the Importance of Psychological Contract Commitment in Information Systems Outsourcing

    In IS outsourcing relationship literature, research has focused on detailed legal contracts and partnerships. We investigate the role of psychological contracts between client and vendor in the IS outsourcing context. The aim of this paper is to put the concept “psychological contract commitment” (PCC) under the spotlight, finding out its mediating effects between legal contracts/partnerships and IS outsourcing success. By analyzing 50 matched survey responses gathered from project managers, vendor firms, and end-users, we found that psychological contract commitment has both direct and mediating effects on outsourcing success. Along the same lines, the key findings suggest that psychological contract commitment explains why legal contracts and partnerships are still crucial to IS outsourcing success

    Structural Optimization of a Knuckle with Consideration of Stiffness and Durability Requirements

    The automobile’s knuckle is connected to the parts of the steering system and the suspension system and it is used for adjusting the direction of a rotation through its attachment to the wheel. This study changes the existing material made of GCD45 to Al6082M and recommends the lightweight design of the knuckle as the optimal design technique to be installed in small cars. Six shape design variables were selected for the optimization of the knuckle and the criteria relevant to stiffness and durability were considered as the design requirements during the optimization process. The metamodel-based optimization method that uses the kriging interpolation method as the optimization technique was applied. The result shows that all constraints for stiffness and durability are satisfied using A16082M, while reducing the weight of the knuckle by 60% compared to that of the existing GCD450

    IT Capabilities, Process-Oriented Dynamic Capabilities, and Firm Financial Performance

    More and more publications are highlighting the value of IT in affecting business processes. Recognizing firm-level dynamic capabilities as key to improved firm performance, our work examines and empirically tests the influencing relationships among IT capabilities (IT personnel expertise, IT infrastructure flexibility, and IT management capabilities), process-oriented dynamic capabilities, and financial performance. Process-oriented dynamic capabilities are defined as a firm’s ability to change (improve, adapt, or reconfigure) a business process better than the competition in terms of integrating activities, reducing cost, and capitalizing on business intelligence/learning. They encompass a broad category of changes in the firm’s processes, ranging from continual adjustments and improvements to radical one-time alterations. Although the majority of changes may be incremental, a firm’s capacity for timely changes also implies its readiness to execute radical alterations when the need arises. Grounded on the theoretical position, we propose a research model and gather a survey data set through a rigorous process that retains research validity. From the analysis of the survey data, we find an important route of causality, as follows: IT personnel expertise -\u3e IT management capabilities -\u3e IT infrastructure flexibility -\u3e process-oriented dynamic capabilities -\u3e financial performance. Based on this finding, we discuss the main contributions of our study in terms of the strategic role of IT in enhancing firm performance
