    Effect of anisotropy distribution on local nucleation field in bistable ferromagntic microwires

    Critical parameters defining the local nucleation field in amorphous ferromagnetic microwires with positive magnetostriction are obtained analytically through scaling procedures. Exact value of the nucleation field is obtained numerically as a function of geometric parameters of anisotropy distribution, which is fully taken into account instead of being averaged out. It is established that the value of nucleation field depends predominantly on the steepness of anisotropy change withing the boundary between axial and radial domains, while the maximal value of anisotropy inside the wire or an overall average is not relevant.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    The analyses indicate that the scale of changes in employment and unemployment during the global crisis depends on such factors as: the depth of the demand shock and scale of GDP adjustments; the degree of openness of the economy; the scope of alternative labour market adjustments and some labour market institutions, especially employment protection legislation and the share of fixed-term employment contracts. The analyses indicate that the smallest declines in employment (and correspondingly the smallest increases in unemployment) during the crisis can be expected in countries where the EPL indexes and share of those employed on fixed-term employment contracts in total employment are moderate

    Electrokinetic Treatment of Sludge

    Disposal of sludge has become a major issue in the pulp and paper industry because of the decreased space in landfills and the possibility of pollution from the sludge. By increasing the amount of solids in the sludge (dewatering), the sludge could be disposed of using less land or by incineration, composting, or other method. The dewatered sludge is easier to handle also because of its decreased volume. The method of dewatering which was used for the experiment was by electrokinetics. Electrokinetics is the technology of separating solids and liquids from suspensions of finely divided solids or colloidal particles using an electrical potential. Using four different power levels, a final solids level of 5.9% was reached and a decreased volume of almost 50%. This data showed that electrokinetics does have the potential to greatly reduce the volume of material which needs to be disposed of. It may also be able to increase the solids level to a higher level with further modification
