    Limits of Solid Solutions and Thermal Deformations in the L-Alanine–L-Serine Amino Acid System

    The limits of solid solutions and thermal deformations in the L-alanine–L-serine (L-ala–L-ser) amino acid system have been determined. Thirteen amino acid mixtures with various proportions of the components L-ser/L-ala were studied using powder X-ray diffraction techniques. It was found that the regions of solid solutions in the system are rather limited and cover less than 10 mol. % from each component side. The thermal behavior of the components L-ser and L-ala and the composition L-ser/L-ala = 90/10 were studied by temperature-resolved powder X-ray diffraction. The heating of L-ser and L-ala only causes thermal deformations, while two-phase mixtures with the 90/10 L-ser/L-ala ratio form solid solutions at elevated temperatures. Additionally, the parameters of the thermal deformation tensor for L-ser and L-ala were calculated, and the figures of their thermal expansion coefficients were plotted and analyzed. The study conducted is of high applicability, since amino acids are active components of various biological, geological, and technological processes, including those at elevated temperatures, and have numerous applications in life-science industries

Шпакова, протекающей в пределах г.. Днепропетровск. Выявлена зависимость удельной активности оксидоредуктаз от сезона отбора проб и воздействия тростника на процессы адаптации саженцев ивы.     Simulation of Electrical Characteristics of a Solar Panel

    The fast-growing photovoltaic system market leads to the necessity of the informed choice of major energy components and optimization of operating conditions in order to improve energy efficiency. Development of mathematical models of the main components of photovoltaic systems to ensure their comprehensive study is an urgent problem of improving and practical using of the technology of electrical energy production. The paper presents a mathematical model of the solar module implemented in the popular software MATLAB/Simulink. Equivalent circuit of the solar cell with a diode parallel without derived resistance is used for modelling. The serie8s resistance of the solar module is calculated by Newton's iterative method using the data of its technical specifications. It ensures high precision of simulation. Model validity was evaluated by the well-known technical characteristics of the module Solarex MSX 60. The calculation results of the experiment showed that the obtained current-voltage and current-watt characteristics of the model are compatible with those of the manufacturer

    Joint effect of the mycotoxins T-2 toxin, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone on the weaner pigs against a background of the infection load

    Currently, among more than 100 000 known species of fungi about 250 species produce mycotoxins, secondary metabolites which are dangerous to human and animal health. Most of these toxins are highly resistant to physical and chemical factors, and are not destroyed even after prolonged heating of feed contaminated with mycotoxins. The aim of the present study was to investigate the joint effects of T-2 toxin, zearalenone, deoxynivalenol and infectious agents on pigs. The study was conducted inthe Federal Center for Toxicological, Radiation and BiologicalSafety. Studies have shown that the jointdietary intake T-2 toxin at a dose of 70 mg/kg, zearalenoneat a dose of 50 mg/kg and deoxynivalenolat a dose of 1000 mg/kg for 30 days against a background of the simulated Clostridium infection load causes symptomatic mycotoxicosis which is accompanied by activation of lipoperoxidation, decrease in hematological, biochemical and immunological parameters: a reduction in the number of T and B lymphocytes, titers of specific protective antibodies and the development of pathological processes in the tissues and organs of weaner pigs, slow weight gain, increase in feed conversion ratio and the development of infectious disease, confirmed with laboratory tests. The result was different in the group of animals with the same infection load but without introducing mycotoxins into the animal diet. The findings provide strong evidence that chronic intake of fuzariotoxins even at the level of permissible concentrations against a background of infection load predisposes to infectious diseases

    A clinical and laboratory surveillance of 59 children with purulent bacterial meningitis (PBM) of various etiologies was carried out. Of them 29 children received Viferon® at dosages according to the age. Viferon was prescribed in addition to basic antibiotic therapy. It was detected that introduction of Viferon® in the treatment strategy for patients with PBM of Hib-and pneumococcal etiology leads to a significant reduction in the duration of the major clinical symptoms, shortened time of sanitation of liquor and it promotes correction of immune disorders displayed by significant reduction in the level of IFN-γi proinflammatory cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid.Проведено клинико-лабораторное наблюдение за 59 детьми с бактериальными гнойными менингитами (БГМ) различной этиологии, из них 29 детей на фоне базисной терапии антибиотиком получали Виферон® в возрастных дозировках. Установлено, что включение препарата Виферон® в тактику лечения больных с БГМ Hib- и пневмококковой этиологии приводит к достоверному снижению длительности основных клинических симптомов, сроков санации ликвора и способствует коррекции иммунных нарушений в виде достоверного снижения уровня ИФН-γ и провоспалительных цитокинов в ликворе

    The Genome of the Toluene-Degrading Pseudomonas veronii Strain 1YdBTEX2 and Its Differential Gene Expression in Contaminated Sand.

    The natural restoration of soils polluted by aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and m- and p-xylene (BTEX) may be accelerated by inoculation of specific biodegraders (bioaugmentation). Bioaugmentation mainly involves introducing bacteria that deploy their metabolic properties and adaptation potential to survive and propagate in the contaminated environment by degrading the pollutant. In order to better understand the adaptive response of cells during a transition to contaminated material, we analyzed here the genome and short-term (1 h) changes in genome-wide gene expression of the BTEX-degrading bacterium Pseudomonas veronii 1YdBTEX2 in non-sterile soil and liquid medium, both in presence or absence of toluene. We obtained a gapless genome sequence of P. veronii 1YdBTEX2 covering three individual replicons with a total size of 8 Mb, two of which are largely unrelated to current known bacterial replicons. One-hour exposure to toluene, both in soil and liquid, triggered massive transcription (up to 208-fold induction) of multiple gene clusters, such as toluene degradation pathway(s), chemotaxis and toluene efflux pumps. This clearly underlines their key role in the adaptive response to toluene. In comparison to liquid medium, cells in soil drastically changed expression of genes involved in membrane functioning (e.g., lipid composition, lipid metabolism, cell fatty acid synthesis), osmotic stress response (e.g., polyamine or trehalose synthesis, uptake of potassium) and putrescine metabolism, highlighting the immediate response mechanisms of P. veronii 1YdBTEX2 for successful establishment in polluted soil

    Quantitative indicators of changes in 37 glaciers of the Patagonian Northern and Southern glacial fields were determined by means of decoding and analysis of photographs obtained by astronauts from the Russian segment of the International Space Station. On the basis of this information it was concluded that in 2002–2016 the glaciers of both fields of Patagonia continued to retreat. The frontal parts of the nine glaciers retained their positions, while others reduced at an average rate of several dozen up to 430 m/year. Repeated monitoring of 16 glaciers from this selection and analysis of the data obtained in 2016–2019 confirm this conclusion. The only exception was the O’Higgins Glacier, which did not change position of its frontal part for 12 years and then retreated in 2018–2019 to 1,250 m. In some cases, a gradual decrease in area of the frontal part of the glacier was accompanied by a sharp collapse of the lower zone with the formation of extensive fields of icebergs. The dynamics of the Bruggen Glacier (Pius XI) are not typical for the region under consideration: for many years this glacier has been advancing. This development cannot be explained without detailed field investigation in the area of snow and ice accumulation of the glacier. Perhaps that was due to a snow-drift transport in an extensive area of accumulation that supported the preservation of the size of the glacier tongue, and even its advance. According to our observations, the average rate of retreat of the glaciers of the Western and Eastern slopes of the Southern Ice Field significantly decreased since 2010, i.e. their degradation slowed down. At the same time, glaciers of the Northern Ice Field continued to decrease intensively.В результате анализа фотоснимков с Международной космической станции определены изменения 37 ледников Северного и Южного ледниковых полей Патагонии.
