    Consumer\u27s attitude and manipulation of raw milk from milk vending machines

    Despite the high nutrition level of raw milk, consumption of it poses a health risk for consumers, especially high-risk populations. The aim of this survey was to determine consumer’s attitude towards raw milk from milk vending machines (n = 305) and to investigate their habits in manipulation of raw milk from the time of purchase until consumption (n = 74). Survey results show that the majority of consumers purchases milk once a week, using their own glass bottle and consume the milk in approximately two days. In most cases, consumers transport milk to their homes in less than 15 minutes without the use of a cooler bag. The manner of bottle cleaning technique depends on bottle material. Almost half of the consumers boil milk before consumption, which is associated with their attitude towards the safety of raw milk consumption. Most of them are satisfied with the level of hygiene on milk vending machines. The majority of consumers is unfamiliar with health risks of raw milk consumption and correct usage

We studied social contact behaviour and vaccine uptake in pregnant women between March 2020 and September 2021 in 19 European countries. Methods: In each country, repeated online survey data were collected from a panel of nationally-representative participants. We calculated the adjusted mean number of contacts reported with an individual-level generalized additive mixed model, modelled using the negative binomial distribution and a log link function. Mean proportion of people in isolation or quarantine, and vaccination coverage by pregnancy status and gender were calculated using a clustered bootstrap. Findings: We recorded 4,129 observations from 1,041 pregnant women, and 115,359 observations from 29,860 non-pregnant individuals aged 18-49. Pregnant women made slightly fewer contacts (3.6, 95%CI = 3.5-3.7) than non-pregnant women (4.0, 95%CI = 3.9-4.0), driven by fewer work contacts but marginally more contacts in non-essential social settings. Approximately 15-20% pregnant and 5% of non-pregnant individuals reported to be in isolation and quarantine for large parts of the study period. COVID-19 vaccine coverage was higher in pregnant women than in non-pregnant women between January and April 2021. Since May 2021, vaccination in non-pregnant women began to increase and surpassed that in pregnant women. Interpretation: Limited social contact to avoid pathogen exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge to many, especially women going through pregnancy. More recognition of maternal social support desire is needed in the ongoing pandemic. For nearly two years, individuals likely also adopted new behaviours to avoid pathogen exposure based on personal circumstances. We aimed to understand the way in which different factors affect social contacts - a critical step to improving future pandemic responses. Methods: The analysis was based on repeated cross-sectional contact survey data collected in a standardized international study from 21 European countries between March 2020 and March 2022. We calculated the mean daily contacts reported using a clustered bootstrap by country and by settings (at home, at work, or in other settings). Where data were available, contact rates during the study period were compared with rates recorded prior to the pandemic. We fitted censored individual-level generalized additive mixed models to examine the effects of various factors on the number of social contacts. Results: The survey recorded 463,336 observations from 96,456 participants. In all countries where comparison data were available, contact rates over the previous two years were substantially lower than those seen prior to the pandemic (approximately from over 10 to < 5), predominantly due to fewer contacts outside the home. Government restrictions imposed immediate effect on contacts, and these effects lingered after the restrictions were lifted. Across countries, the relationships between national policy, individual perceptions, or personal circumstances determining contacts varied. Conclusions: Our study, coordinated at the regional level, provides important insights into the understanding of the factors associated with social contacts to support future infectious disease outbreak responses.The following funding sources are acknowledged as providing funding for the named authors.     Managing the movement of children with special needs

    Diplomsko delo z naslovom Upravljanje gibanja pri otrocih s posebnimi potrebami je sestavljeno iz teoretičnega in empiričnega dela. V teoretičnem delu smo predstavili otroke s posebnimi potrebami, gibalni razvoj pri otrocih s posebnimi potrebami in spremljanje gibalnega razvoja. Namen diplomskega dela je bil raziskati upravljanje gibanja pri otrocih s posebnimi potrebami. Cilj empiričnega dela pa je bil raziskati eksplozivno moč, koordinacijo in ravnotežje pri otrocih s posebnimi potrebami. V empiričnem delu smo izvedli motorične teste na vzorcu iz konkretne populacije, in sicer na otrocih s posebnimi potrebami, ter rezultate primerjali z rezultati nekaterih raziskav, ki so bile narejene na zdravih otrocih. S kvantitativno obdelavo testov smo ugotovili, da imajo otroci s posebnimi potrebami pri upravljanju eksplozivnih gibov, pri upravljanju koordinacije gibov in pri upravljanju vzpostavljanja in ohranjanja ravnotežja večje težave kot zdravi otroci.The thesis with the title Managing the Movement of Children with Special Needs consists of a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part presents children with special needs, the motor development of children with special needs and the supervision of motor development. The purpose of the thesis was to research the management of movement of children with special needs. The goal of the empirical part was to research the explosive power, coordination and balance of children with special needs. The empirical part reveals the performed motor skills tests, which were performed on the sample of concrete population, namely among children with special needs, and the comparison of these results with the results of some researches, which were performed among healthy children. With the help of quantitative test processing we determined that the children with special needs have larger problems with managing explosive movements, managing coordination of movement and managing the establishment and maintenance of balance

    Citizen Science as Part of the Primary School Curriculum: A Case Study of a Technical Day on the Topic of Noise and Health

    In this paper, we summarise lessons learned conducting citizen science (CS) activities within the CitieS-Health H2020 project on the topic of noise exposure and health at a primary school in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Activities were organised in the form of a School Tech-Day Event (STDE) as part of the school&rsquo;s curriculum involving second-grade pupils, ages 7&ndash;8. The STDE was aligned with the project&rsquo;s methodological framework, which is based on co-creation and co-design principles. To this end, the pupils initially were involved in identifying noise-related issues and translation of selected topics into research questions. Next, together with mentors, they participated in the process of hypothesis formulation and the designing of data collection protocols. Finally, they participated in three focussed noise measurement experiments, as well as data analysis and presentation. We report and critically evaluate the whole chain of activities, focussing on the participant dimension using selected components of the citizen science evaluation framework. The event was very well-received by both pupils and teachers, and their active participation and hands-on experience with scientific processes contributed to their improved scientific literacy. Overall, the demonstrated concept of CS activities has great potential for ongoing inclusion in the school curriculum in its current format, or else adjusted according to specifics from other science and technology fields
