Basalt fibre reinforced poly(lactic acid) based composites for engineering applications

    Get PDF
In our research we have investigated the us ability of basalt fabrics and roving as a novel reinforcement for the renewable resource and inherently biodegradable polymer Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA). The composites were prepared by using film-stacking method, thus by laying basalt fabrics and PLA film onto each other and co mpression moulding this layered structure. PLA film was produced film (sheet) extrusion from pellets. The effect of processing parameters, namely pressure and temperature was analysed on the mechanical properties of the composites. It was found that both paramet ers are highly effectiv e in significantly increasing the wetting of the basalt fabric, a nd thus the mechanical properties. Finally, unidirectional composites were also prepared by the same method to be able to determine the maximum achievable strength of the basalt fibre reinforced PLA composites

Efficient computing of n-dimensional simultaneous Diophantine approximation problems

    Get PDF
In this paper we consider two algorithmic problems of simultaneous Diophantine approximations. The first algorithm produces a full solution set for approximating an irrational number with rationals with common denominators from a given interval. The second one aims at finding as many simultaneous solutions as possible in a given time unit. All the presented algorithms are implemented, tested and the PariGP version made publicly available

Improvement of Biogas Production by Bioaugmentation

Biogas production technologies commonly involve the use of natural anaerobic consortia of microbes. The objective of this study was to elucidate the importance of hydrogen in this complex microbial food chain. Novel laboratory biogas reactor prototypes were designed and constructed. The fates of pure hydrogen-producing cultures of Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus and Enterobacter cloacae were followed in time in thermophilic and mesophilic natural biogas-producing communities, respectively. Molecular biological techniques were applied to study the altered ecosystems. A systematic study in 5-litre CSTR digesters revealed that a key fermentation parameter in the maintenance of an altered population balance is the loading rate of total organic solids. Intensification of the biogas production was observed and the results corroborate that the enhanced biogas productivity is associated with the increased abundance of the hydrogen producers. Fermentation parameters did not indicate signs of failure in the biogas production process. Rational construction of more efficient and sustainable biogas-producing microbial consortia is proposed

In our work the effect of different mould material was investigated on the properties of injection moulded parts. A mould was designed and manufactured by using conventional and additive technologies. Injection moulding tests were performed using these moulds. The temperature of the moulds was determined as well as its effect on the thermal properties of the parts

Economics students’ migrations in the Hungarian higher education system

    Get PDF
The Hungarian Higher Education has faced several structural challenges since the regime change of 1990. The ‘golden age’ seems to be over and the government tends to impose severe limits on institutions regarding the number of state-financed students, the minimal application points and the institutions’ missions. These new aspects influence the application procedures, as students are eager to achieve the highest price-value combination on the education market, which leads to internal and external migrations. In this study, we focus on the former, by using the agglomeration analysis of higher education institutions. We apply a modified Universal Law of Gravity to gather information about social and/or economic phenomena. On the level of single individuals, these types of decisions are random, but on the collective level, they can be characterized by certain principles and rules. This study explores the changes in the agglomeration areas and the limiting factors related to colleges and universities, offering economic education between 2004 and 2014. This period is adequate, as to identify the peculiarities and different influences of the market, the government, and the global trends and to identify the new spatial roles of the institutions
