Analysis of selected acceleration signals measurements obtained during supervised service conditions – study of hitherto approach

    Get PDF
The subject matter of the paper is an analysis of chosen results of acceleration signals measurements obtained from the prototype of the Rail Vehicle and Rail Track Monitoring System. This prototype of the monitoring system measures acceleration signals on designated elements of the electric multiple unit (EMU). These elements comprise components such as: bogie frames, wheels and bodies of railway vehicles. The analysis was prepared on the basis of rail vehicle journeys on sample sections of the Polish National Railways (PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.) network. The products of measurements were converted to values of specific diagnostic parameters (statistical parameters), e.g. an amplitude (zero-peak), a root mean square, a kurtosis coefficient, an interquartile range. Comparing the values of diagnostic parameters with their permissible values allows the monitoring of distinctive dynamic behaviors of rail vehicles and track condition, as well as the temperature of the bearings of rail vehicle wheelsets. It also allows the determining of the condition of rail vehicle structure. The permissible values of certain diagnostics parameters could not be obtained from the literature. Therefore, this paper in part presents a way of obtaining these permissible values. The main intention of the analysis described here is to determine the usability of various diagnostic parameters and to identify the course of further research related to condition monitoring and diagnostics of rail vehicles and tracks

Factors Affecting Capture Rates of Insect Taxa by Retail Electrocutors and Eliminators in Northern Lower Michigan

    Get PDF
We compare the abundance and types of insects captured at several locations, with and without a chemical attractant and in varying weather conditions using two different devices advertised to kill biting insects. Using both an insect electrocutor that uses ultraviolet light as an attractant, with and without octenol as an added attractant, and an insect eliminator that uses carbon dioxide, heat and octenol as attractants, more non-biting than biting insects were captured. Numerous harmless and beneficial insects were killed with electrocutors. Although eliminators were more target-specific, they captured fewer insects overall compared to electrocutors. The numbers and types of insects captured also varied by location and temperature conditions. More insects were killed by electrocutors located next to a lake compared to those located in an inland forested area and more were killed at lower compared to higher heights above the ground. More insects were also killed by electrocutors on warmer than on cooler nights. More non-biting insects were killed with electrocutors baited with octenol than without octenol

Simulation Method in Research on Material-Flow in a Warehouse

    Get PDF
This paper presents an attempt to apply the simulation model in the study of the dynamic aspects of material-flow in a warehouse. At first the research approach was briefly subjected under explanation and literature review was given. Then simulation tools are noted and various stages of the simulation research procedure, developed by the author of the paper, are discussed. The general way of construction and the use of the simulation model are also described. The paper contains several conclusions based on results of simulation runs as well as suggestions of topics for further study

Prof. Stanisław Pawłowski (1882−1940) – geograf, geolog, pedagog – był w latach 1932−1933 rektorem Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego. Autor przedstawia sylwetkę wybitnego uczonego, badacza, dydaktyka i podróżnika.

Rational Searching Procedure in Warehouse Design

Designing a warehouse layout is an important problem, which plays a role in a life cycle of a company. Generally, two main types of layout decision problems are mentioned in literature. The first problem is usually called facility layout problem while the second one is internal layout designing problem or aisle configuration problem. Merging them both, the procedure for rational searching of optimal warehouse layout is prepared. It was decided to prepare the procedure as an optimisation procedure of functional and spatial areas. The procedure is a part of the logistics facilities designing method because a sketch layout of logistics facility is an important part of the method of logistic facilities designing. The paper briefly describes the location of the procedure in the method. Regarding functional and spatial layouts designing, model was expanded with mathematical formulas of certain geometrical parameters.Particular emphasis on warehouse geometry is important due to the fact that many other issues depend on these parameters in warehouse designing process. The paper consists of a problem definition, mathematical model formulation and precise descriptions adequate to mathematic notations. What is more, the example of procedure application implemented into the software is given. The software is the implementation of the procedure and the whole method itsel
