    Further notes on the distribution of Dittrichia graveolens (Asteraceae) in Poland

    The paper presents a new record of Dittrichia graveolens in Poland. This alien species was found growing on roadside verges in Głogoczów, West-Beskidian Piedmont, southern Poland, in 2016. An updated map of distribution of D. graveolens is provided based on the ATPOL cartogram method, and its pathway of spread along the roads is highlighted. Moreover, the Polish vernacular names "omanowiec" and "omanowiec wonny" are proposed for the genus Dittrichia and the species D. graveolens, respectively

    Import 27/01/2012Lidé v moderní době tráví uvnitř budov stále více času a kvalita vnitřního vzduchu má vliv na lidské zdraví (pocit ospalosti, ztráta koncentrace, pálení očí a bolesti hlavy). A zdraví je bez debat nejdůležitější věcí. Odborníci se shodují, že kvalita vzduchu je velice důležitá a má přímý dopad na lidské zdraví z krátkodobého i dlouhodobého hlediska. Řídicí systémy budou v budoucnu čím dál komplikovanější a propracovanější, bude zde proto požadavek na řízení větracího systému podle aktuální kvality vzduchu (řízení podle relativní vlhkosti, koncentrace oxidu uhličitého nebo jednodušší systémy napojené na světelné nebo pohybové senzory). Takové systémy jsou k dispozici i v současnosti, avšak pouze za vysoké investiční náklady. Cílem tohoto projektu je navrhnout bytový dům, který bude vybaven mechanickým ventilačním systémem. Dům bude mít 3 patra s byty a suterén s parkovištěm a posilovnou.We spend a lot of our time indoors and the quality of air has influence on human health (sleepiness feelings, loss of concentration, burning eyes and headaches). And health is without any doubt the most important aspect of our life. Experts in this field agree that air quality is important and has direct influence on human health from both short and long-term perspective. The control systems will be much more complex in the future, so there will definitely be a request for demand control ventilation systems (control on the basis of relative humidity, concentration of CO2 or simple control system connected to light switch or move sensor). Such systems are available even today, but the price is so far too high to the system to expand. The aim of this thesis is to design an apartment house with mechanical ventilation systém.     Limonka Gmelinova ( Limonium gmelinii ) na dálnicích České republiky

    Limonium gmelinii bylo v České republice jako zavlečený druh poprvé nalezeno v roce 2009 na krajnici dálnice D1 u Ostrovačic na Brněnsku. V roce 2013 bylo zaznamenáno také ve středním dělícím pásu dálnice D2 na jih od Brna.The paper describes finds of Limonium gmelinii on the D1 and D2 motorways in southern Moravia (south-eastern part of the Czech Republic). Limonium gmelinii is a plant of continental halophytic vegetation, such as saline steppes and marshlands, with a large distribution range extending from south-eastern Europe over southern Ukraine, south-eastern European Russia to southern Siberia in the east and some parts of Central Asia in the south. It is reported here for the first time as a naturalized alien species of the Czech flora. Until now it has been known from four sites, of which one is situated on the D1 motorway near the village of Ostrovačice, west of the city of Brno (first recorded by J. Danihelka in 2009), and three on the D2 motorway southeast of Brno, near the villages of Otmarov, Opatovice and Rakvice (first recorded by P. Kocián in 2013 but already recognizable on Street View photographs of Google Maps from August 2009). The Ostrovačice site, harbouring a single specimen, is the only place where L. gmelinii is found at the road verge under steel beam barriers. At the remaining three sites, in contrast, plants are always found in the central reservation. While the population near Rakvice consists of up to 40 flowering specimens, the populations near Opatovice and Otmarov are less numerous, consisting of about 5 and 2 flowering individuals, respectively. The identification of our specimens (deposited at BRNU and OL) as L. gmelinii seems to be almost certain; however, we refrained from identification to the microspecies level (as L. hungaricum or L. hypanicum , both described by M. V. Klokov) because the infraspecific variation of L. gmelinii is insufficiently known. We assume that the seeds of L. gmelinii were introduced to the Czech motorways via international traffic from Hungary but this assumption is based solely on geographic considerations and cannot be supported by any other arguments

    When describing the behaviour and modelling of real systems, which are characterized by considerable complexity, great difficulty, and often the impossibility of their formal mathematical description, and whose operational monitoring and measurement are difficult, conventional analytical-statistical models run into the limits of their use. The application of these models leads to necessary simplifications, which cause insufficient adequacy of the resulting mathematical description. In such cases, it is appropriate for modelling to use the methods brought by a new scientific discipline-artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence provides very promising tools for describing and controlling complex systems. The method of neural networks was chosen for the analysis of the lifetime of the teeming ladle. Artificial neural networks are mathematical models that approximate non-linear functions of an arbitrary waveform. The advantage of neural networks is their ability to generalize the dependencies between individual quantities by learning the presented patterns. This property of a neural network is referred to as generalization. Their use is suitable for processing complex problems where the dependencies between individual quantities are not exactly known.Web of Science1522art. no. 823

    The EUPEMEN (EUropean PErioperative MEdical Networking) Protocol for Bowel Obstruction: recommendations for perioperative care

    Mechanical bowel obstruction is a common symptom for admission to emergency services, diagnosed annually in more than 300,000 patients in the States, from whom 51% will undergo emergency laparotomy. This condition is associated with serious morbidity and mortality, but it also causes a high financial burden due to long hospital stay. The EUPEMEN project aims to incorporate the expertise and clinical experience of national clinical specialists into development of perioperative rehabilitation protocols. Providing special recommendations for all aspects of patient perioperative care and the participation of diverse specialists, the EUPEMEN protocol for bowel obstruction, as presented in the current paper, aims to provide faster postoperative recovery and reduce length of hospital stay, postoperative morbidity and mortality rate

    Survey of Period Variations of Superhumps in SU UMa-Type Dwarf Novae

    We systematically surveyed period variations of superhumps in SU UMa-type dwarf novae based on newly obtained data and past publications. In many systems, the evolution of superhump period are found to be composed of three distinct stages: early evolutionary stage with a longer superhump period, middle stage with systematically varying periods, final stage with a shorter, stable superhump period. During the middle stage, many systems with superhump periods less than 0.08 d show positive period derivatives. Contrary to the earlier claim, we found no clear evidence for variation of period derivatives between superoutburst of the same object. We present an interpretation that the lengthening of the superhump period is a result of outward propagation of the eccentricity wave and is limited by the radius near the tidal truncation. We interpret that late stage superhumps are rejuvenized excitation of 3:1 resonance when the superhumps in the outer disk is effectively quenched. Many of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae showed long-enduring superhumps during the post-superoutburst stage having periods longer than those during the main superoutburst. The period derivatives in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae are found to be strongly correlated with the fractional superhump excess, or consequently, mass ratio. WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with a long-lasting rebrightening or with multiple rebrightenings tend to have smaller period derivatives and are excellent candidate for the systems around or after the period minimum of evolution of cataclysmic variables (abridged).Comment: 239 pages, 225 figures, PASJ accepte

    The role of the immune system in colorectal and ovarian cancer

    Prediction of clinical outcome in cancer is usually achieved by histopathological evaluation of tissue samples obtained during surgical resection of the primary tumor. Traditional tumor staging (AJCC/UICC-TNM classification) summarizes data on tumor burden (T), presence of cancer cells in draining and regional lymph nodes (N) and evidence for metastases (M). However, it is now recognized that clinical outcome cansignificantly vary among patients within the same stage. Data collected from largecohorts of human cancers has demonstrated the impact of immune-classification, which has a prognostic value that may add largely to the significance of the AJCC/UICC TNM-classification. In our study we examined the immune cells that infiltrated the tumor tissues of colorectal and ovarian cancer patients. In a cohort of newly diagnosed colorectal cancer patients we examined the correlations between the KRAS mutational status, patterns of tumor-infiltrating immune cells and the presence of tumor recurrence. Our data suggest that colorectal cancer patients with low levels of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, a high CD1a/DC-LAMP tumor-infiltrating dendritic cells ratio, and a KRAS mutation in codon 13 are at a high risk of disease recurrence.
