    The Russian Comitative Construction as Reciprocal Conjunction

    Open DownloadShare✕ The tendency of the Russian comitative construction to be interpreted collectively has raised a debate as to whether this construction denotes sums, like and-coordination, or denotes groups. I propose a more detailed mechanism explaining how the meaning of this construction is derived, and, relying on insights from the theory of possessives, I argue that the RCC should be treated as an instance of reciprocal conjunction. This more specific way to approach the RCC addresses the long-reported speakers’ intuition that this construction is best used when its members are “somehow related” or when the events in question occur in spatiotemporal proximity. Furthermore, my approach explains why the RCC can still be interpreted distributively when the abovementioned relatedness requirement is met, even as the collective interpretation might be strongly preferred

    Otimização de um sensor de polifenóis

    Dissertação de mestrado em Técnicas de Caraterização e Análise QuímicaOs polifenóis são compostos naturais abundantemente presentes no vinho, em maior quantidade no vinho tinto. Além das propriedades antioxidantes são responsáveis pelas propriedades organoléticas (sabor, aroma e cor) de um vinho e da sua capacidade de envelhecimento, estando intimamente relacionados com a sua qualidade. Atualmente, os métodos óticos são utilizados para a quantificação dos polifenóis, no entanto, apresentam limitações significativas, uma vez que sofrem a interferência por parte de uma grande diversidade de outros compostos que não contribuem para as propriedades organoléticas do vinho, tais como o dióxido de enxofre, o ácido ascórbico e o ácido sórbico. Outras técnicas como a Cromatografia Líquida de Alta Eficiência (HPLC) e a Eletroforese Capilar (CE), que permitem a quantificação de polifenóis sem interferências significativas, raramente são utilizadas fora de um ambiente de investigação por serem muito demoradas e dispendiosas. Neste trabalho, são apresentados os estudos relativos ao desenvolvimento de um sensor eletroquímico seletivo de polifenóis com desempenho semelhante à dos protótipos laboratoriais já testados no nosso laboratório. Os elétrodos Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) e Screen Printing Carbon Electrode (SPCE) foram modificados com CNT funcionalizados. As condições experimentais foram otimizadas relativamente à natureza dos grupos funcionais introduzidos nos CNT e massa de CNT em ensaios eletroquímicos com polifenóis padrão e amostras de vinhos, recorrendo a diferentes variáveis experimentais (volume de solução de amostra, tempo de contacto com a amostra, técnica de deteção). Foram desenvolvidos e testados protótipos de sensores impressos por técnicas de inkjet-printing, screen-printing e stencil-printing, como também módulos de modificação de elétrodos comerciais (SPCE) em diferentes substratos (aglomerados de nanotubos de carbono, substrato celulósico e diferentes substratos poliméricos). Apesar destes sensores desenvolvidos mostrarem-se adequados e com resultados promissores, o objetivo deste trabalho não foi alcançado por completo, pelo que a otimização dos mesmos requer a realização de ensaios adicionais.Polyphenols are natural compounds abundantly present in wine, in greater quantity in red wine. In addition to the antioxidant properties are responsible for the organoleptic properties (flavour, aroma and colour) of a wine and its aging ability, being closely related to its quality. Currently, optical methods are used for the quantification of polyphenols, however they have significant limitations, since they are subject to interference by a large diversity of other compounds that do not contribute to the organoleptic properties of the wine, such as sulphur dioxide, ascorbic acid and sorbic acid. Other techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Capillary Electrophoresis (EC), which allow the quantification of polyphenols without significant interference, are rarely used outside a research environment because they are very time consuming and expensive. In this work the studies related to the development of a selective electrochemical sensor of polyphenols with similar performance to the laboratory prototypes already tested in our laboratory are presented. The Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) and Screen Printing Carbon Electrode (SPCE) electrodes were modified with functionalized CNTs. The experimental conditions were optimized with respect to the nature of the functional groups introduced in CNT and mass of CNT in electrochemical tests with standard polyphenols and wine samples, using different experimental variables (sample solution volume, contact time with sample, detection technique). Sensor prototypes printed by inkjet-printing, screen-printing and stencil-printing techniques, as well as commercial electrode modulating modules (SPCE) on different substrates (carbon nanotube agglomerates, cellulosic substrate and different polymer substrates) were developed and tested. Although these sensors have been shown to be adequate and with promising results, the objective of this work has not been fully achieved, so the optimization of these sensors requires additional tests

    The article deals with linguostylistic peculiarities of anagram and its functional role in the novel «The Da Vinci Code» by Den Brown. The author analyses the ways of anagram reproduction in Russian and Ukrainian translations of the novel. The own variant of anagram translation into Russian is suggested.Рассмотрены лингвостилистические особенности анаграммы и ее функцио-нальная роль в романе Дена Брауна «Код да Винчи». Проанализированы пути и способы адекватной передачи анаграммы в переводах романа на украинский и русский языки.
