    Effects of solar magnetic field on cosmic rays

    Aspects of the problem of galactic cosmic ray propagation, including inversion of the solar total magnetic field and an analysis of data related to the heliomagnetic cycle are discussed. It is noted that the global structure of the solar magnetic field results in an additional flux of galactic cosmic rays generated by curvature and gradient drifts. An analysis of heliomagnetic cycle data shows that the latitudinal gradient results in a N-S asymmetry, with the amplitude of the effect growing with depth in the atmosphere. The inversion of the solar total magnetic field, drift effects, and other space distributions are found to contribute to a 22-year cycle of solar activity

    Features of physical therapy of people with endocrine system pathology

    Aim:To check the effectiveness of the program of physical therapy of patients with type 1 diabetes. Materials and Methods: The study involved 30 people (25-35-year-old women) with type 1 diabetes of moderate severity of the disease in the subcompensation stage, who were at the sanatorium stage of treatment. Patients, along with following a diet and insulin therapy, were engaged in physical exercises according to the author’s program based on the Nordic Walking. Assessment of the impact of physical rehabilitation was performed on blood sugar level, heart rate, blood pressure. Results: It is established that at the end of the experiment the blood sugar level of the EG patients significantly (p≤0.05) decreased by 0.8 mmol/l (7.54%), in contrast to CG, where the difference is 0.3 mmol/l (2.75%) and is unreliable (p≥0.05). This indicates the effectiveness of the developed program of physical therapy for diabetic patients based on Nordic Walking classes in combination with traditional methods of treatment. Conclusions: Nordic Walking classes for patients with type 1 diabetes help to increase insulin sensitivity, stabilize blood pressure, reduce the risk of developing coronary heart disease, increase immunity, expand the functional capabilities of the body, improve the well-being and psychoemotional state of patients

    Self-replenishing ability of cross-linked low surface energy polymer films investigated by a complementary experimental-simulation approach

    Nowadays, many self-healing strategies are available for recovering mechanical damage of bulk polymeric materials. The recovery of surface-dependent functionalities on polymer films is, however, equally important and has been less investigated. In this work we study the ability of low surface energy cross-linked poly(ester urethane) networks containing perfluorinated dangling chains to self-replenish their surface, after being submitted to repeated surface damage. For this purpose we used a combined experimental-simulation approach. Experimentally, the cross-linked films were intentionally damaged by cryo-microtoming to remove top layers and create new surfaces which were characterized by water Contact Angle measurements and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The same systems were simultaneously represented by a Dissipative Particles Dynamics simulation method, where the damage was modeled by removing the top film layers in the simulation box and replacing it by new "air" beads. The influence of different experimental parameters, such as the concentration of the low surface energy component and the molecular mobility span of the dangling chains, on the surface recovery is discussed. The combined approach reveals important details of the self-replenishing ability of damaged polymer films such as the occurrence of multiple-healing events, the self-replenishing efficiency, and the minimum "healing agent" concentration for a maximum recovery

    Monitiring of efficiency of dental caries management in children`s temporary teeth throughout Poltava oblast

    Introduction: Dental caries is still a major health care problem not only in Ukraine but throughout the world. Complicated dental c a r ie s currently ranks the leading position among the oral diseases in children. The aim of this study is to carry out a analysis of the epidemiology of dental caries and its complications, and to evaluate the efficiency of the caries treatment for temporary teeth among the children of Poltava oblast over the last decade based on the data of the annual reports. Materials and methods: We have studied the figures reflecting the epidemiology of dental caries and its complications in Poltava oblast over the past ten years obtained through the analysis of the annual reports on the quantitative and qualitative indicators of paediatric dental service. Review: According to the annual reports from the districts, the number of cases of temporary teeth treatment for complicated caries did not change significantly when comparing the relevant data of 2007 and 2017. When carrying out the comparative analysis of annual reports for 2007 and 2017 by the indicator of the share of complicated caries, attention should be focused on the average increase of the value from 30.4% in 2007 to 35.9% in 2017. Conclusions: The analysis of annual reports for 2007 and 2017 through Poltava oblast points out the low efficiency of dental caries management in the children's temporary teeth. As a result, outcomes of the dental caries treatment and caries complications in the children's temporary teeth are assessed as unsatisfactory both in the preventive and the therapeutic aspects

    Особенности характеристик миокарда пациентов с острым инфарктом миокарда с подъемом сегмента ST и сахарным диабетом по данным магнитно-резонансной томографии сердца с контрастированием

    Introduction. The presence of diabetes mellitus in patients with acute infarction significantly worsens short- and long-term prognosis, but the features of the course of the infarction in this category of patients have not been fully studied.Objective. To compare clinical, functional and structural myocardial characteristics of patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with and without diabetes mellitus.Materials and methods. The study included 91 patients with revascularized ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (41 patients with diabetes mellitus). All patients underwent cardiac MRI with contrast, including myocardial T1 mapping, tissue analysis of left ventricular myocardium with determination of infarct zone, heterogeneous zone, edema zone, pre- and post-contrast T1 values, extracellular volume values of healthy myocardium and infarct zone.Results. The presence of diabetes in patients with AMI was associated with increased EDV LV: 153 ± 38 and 181 ± 58 ml (p = 0.007), increased ESV LV: 76 ml [54–93] and 87 ml [71–122] (p = 0.035). Infarct size was significantly larger in patients with diabetes than in those without diabetes: 37 ± 15 g (95% CI: 33–41) and 47 ± 21 g (95% CI: 40–53), p = 0.017. Patients with acute infarction and diabetes mellitus had higher extracellular volume values in both healthy myocardium: 24% [22–27] and 28% [24–30], p = 0.002, and in the infarct zone: 48% [40–58] and 58% [50–61], p = 0.016.Conclusions. In patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with diabetes mellitus, the infarct size, the edema area, and the value of the extracellular volume fraction both in the infarct area and in the preserved myocardium were larger than in patients without diabetes, which may underlie the development of myocardial dysfunction and further progression of heart failure.Введение. Наличие сахарного диабета (СД) у пациентов с острым инфарктом миокарда (ОИМ) существенно ухудшает краткосрочный и долгосрочный прогноз, однако особенности течения инфаркта у данной категории пациентов до конца не изучены.Цель. Сравнить клинические, функциональные и структурные характеристики миокарда пациентов с ОИМ с подъемом сегмента ST с СД и без СД.Материалы и методы. В исследование включен 91 пациент с реваскуляризированным острым инфарктом миокарда с подъемом сегмента ST (41 пациент с СД, 50 пациентов без СД). Всем пациентам выполнена МРТ сердца с контрастированием, в том числе Т1-картирование миокарда, проведен тканевой анализ миокарда левого желудочка с определением зоны инфаркта, гетерогенной зоны, зоны отека, значений до- и постконтрастного Т1, фракции внеклеточного объема здорового миокарда и инфарктной зоны.Результаты. Наличие СД у пациентов с ОИМ ассоциировалось с увеличенным конечным диастолическим объемом левого желудочка: 153 ± 38 и 181 ± 58 мл (р = 0,007), увеличенным конечным систолическим объемом левого желудочка: 76 мл [54–93] и 87 мл [71– 122] (р = 0,035). Размер инфаркта у пациентов с СД был достоверно больше, чем у пациентов без СД: 37 ± 15 г (95% ДИ 33–41) и 47 ± 21 г (95% ДИ 40–53), р = 0,017. У пациентов с ОИМ и СД фракция внеклеточного объема была выше и в здоровом миокарде: 24% [22–27] и 28% [24–30], р = 0,002, и в инфарктной зоне: 48% [40–58] и 58% [50–61], р = 0,016.Заключение. У пациентов с инфарктом миокарда с подъемом сегмента ST и СД размер инфаркта, зона отека, а также значение фракции внеклеточного объема как в зоне инфаркта, так и в сохранном миокарде были больше, чем у пациентов без СД, что может лежать в основе развития дисфункции миокарда и дальнейшего прогрессирования сердечной недостаточности
