Hercules Vinariensis? : Aneignungen eines europäischen Mythos in der frühen Neuzeit

Zum 16. Geburtstag des Erbprinzen Carl August von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach am 3. September 1773 ließ sein Lehrer Christoph Martin Wieland im Weimarer Hoftheater "Die Wahl des Herkules", eine »dramatische Cantate«, aufführen. Das auf den antiken Autor Prodikos von Keos zurückgehende Motiv der Wahl des jungen Halbgotts zwischen dem steinigen Pfad der Tugend und dem verderblichen Weg der Wollust bzw. des Lasters war in allen künstlerischen Gattungen besonders populär. Kaum ein Stoff schien für Fürstenlob und dynastische Repräsentation besser geeignet zu sein. Insofern stand Wielands "Wahl des Herkules", wenngleich im aufklärerischen Duktus akzentuiert, motiv- und formgeschichtlich in einer langen, gesamteuropäischen Tradition. Konnte Wieland 1773 an eine mit der Dynastie oder dem Ort »Weimar« verbundene Tradition des Herkules-Mythos anknüpfen, oder bediente er sich des Motivs schlicht deshalb, weil es sich seiner europaweiten Verbreitung wegen als ein eingängiger und formbarer Stoff für seine reichsweite Wirkungsabsicht anbot? Ich frage also danach, in welchen Medien und in welchen Formen das Herkules-Motiv in Weimar seit dem Ausgang des Mittelalters erscheint, und wie sich Weimar diesen europäischen Mythos aneignete. Diese Spurensuche, die sich auf die bildenden Künste und die Hofkultur (Feste, Gelegenheitsdichtung, Theater) konzentriert, markiert auf vielen Feldern eher Wissenslücken, als sie diese füllen kann; wo Medien und Agenten in der Aneignung, Umformung oder Zurückweisung des Mythos greifbar sind, wird sie (in Ansätzen) zur Transferanalyse, wo diese Vermittler (noch) nicht aufzuspüren sind, bleibt sie eher Rezeptionsgeschichte

Höfische Musenpflege als weiblicher Rückzugsraum? : Herzogin Anna Amalia von Weimar zwischen Regentinnenpflichten und musischen Neigungen

Im Folgendem werden (I.) die Handlungsspielräume und Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten der weiblichen Obervormünderin und Landesadministratorin Anna Amalia umrissen. Dann wird (II.) diskutiert, welche Formen und Handlungsspielräume sie während dieser Zeit für ihre Ambitionen als Kunstliebhaberin und dilettierende Künstlerin fand. Abschließend wird (III.) die Ausgangsfrage aufgenommen - "höfische Musenpflege als weiblicher Rückzugsraum?" Es handelt sich ausdrücklich um eine Fallstudie, um den Zusammenhang zwischen Hofkultur und aufklärerischen Reformen zu thematisieren. Vergleiche müssen mangels Raum und ähnlicher Studien außen vor bleiben

Geselligkeit, Mäzenatentum und Kunstliebhaberei am "Musenhof" Anna Amalias - neue Ergebnisse, neue Fragen

Die zentralen Begriffe "Kunstliebhaberei", "Geselligkeit" und "Mäzenatentum" vorab verbindlich zu klären, ist im Hinblick auf die unterschiedlichen Fragen, Methoden und Erkenntnisinteressen der Einzeldisziplinen, die sich mit Anna Amalias "Musenhof" beschäftigen, nur bedingt möglich. Die Studien dieses Bandes [- hervorgegangen aus einer Tagung des Jenaer Sonderforschungsbereichs 482 "Ereignis Weimar-Jena. Kultur um 1800" im Jahre 1999 -] sollen jedoch Wege weisen, ihre gegenseitige Bedingtheit, aber auch ihre Eigenständigkeit stärker deutlich zu machen. The Role of TRiC-enhanced Actin Folding in Leber Congenital Amaurosis

Purpose: Mutations in TCP-1 ring complex (TRiC) have been associated with Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). TRiC is involved in protein folding and has 8 essential subunits including CCT5. Herein, we studied the retina of TRiC mutant zebrafish to evaluate the possible role of impaired actin and tubulin folding in LCA. Methods: The cct5tf 212b retina was histologically studied using Toluidine Blue staining as well as TUNEL, BrdU-labeling, and Phalloidin assays. Retinal organisation was assessed by quantification of the cellularity utilising DAPI. Results: Laminar organization of cct5tf 212b retinas was intact. Enhanced apoptosis throughout the cct5tf 212b retina was not compensated by higher proliferation rates, leaving the cct5tf 212b retina smaller in size. Quantification of retinal layer cellularity demonstrated that specifically the numbers of the amacrine and the retinal ganglion cells were depleted, suggesting that the cct5tf 212b retina was not uniformly affected by the reduced actin folding. Conclusion: Whereas the current literature suggests that LCA is predominantly affecting retinal photoreceptor cells and the retinal pigment epithelium, cct5tf 212b analyses demonstrated the important role of folding of actin by TRiC, suggesting that cct

Spectroscopic Signatures of Internal Hydrogen Bonds of Brønsted‐Acid Sites in the Zeolite H‐MFI

The location of Brønsted-acid sites (bridging OH groups, b-OH) at different crystallographic positions of zeolite catalysts influences their reactivity due to varying confinement. Selecting the most stable b-OH conformers at each of the 12 T-sites (T=Si/Al) of H-MFI, a representative set of 26 conformers is obtained which includes free b-OH groups pointing into the empty pore space and b-OH groups forming H-bonds across five- or six-membered rings of TO4 tetrahedra. Chemically accurate coupled-cluster-quality calculations for periodic models show that the strength of internal H-bonds and, hence, the OH bond length vary substantially with the framework position. Freemasonry has traditionally been seen as a key influence in the rise of the Bourgeoisie, since it allegedly subdued social boundaries and behavioural norms of the Ancien Régime. This paper, however, argues that the masonic lodges at least in the smaller German court towns, adopted various elements of court society – organizational structures, myths and ceremonies. These lodges imported the British model of the gentleman-freemason and combined it with customs and values of the secular orders of knighthood popular at courts. The most important masonic Grand Lodge, the Strict Observance, was ruled by an elitist 'Inner Order' that was modeled after the medieval Knights Templar. These masonic 'Knights' were searching for a new chivalric code. Moreover, the rituals of all lodges mimicked ceremonies at court, culminating in the Tafelloge. Freemasonry thus did not threaten court society. Its utopian potential lay in harmonizing its social and cultural inconsistencies

Repräsentationsstrategien deutscher Fürstinnen in der Spätaufklärung

After the Seven Years War German petty courts increasingly felt obliged to justify their very existence. Therefor members of the reigning dynasties developped strategies to represent themselves as ›enlightened‹ rulers. Especially for non-reigning princesses, practice and patronage of the fine arts – theatre, music, landscape gardening, literature, the plastic and graphic arts – should not only compensate for the dullness of everyday life at court, but were crucial means of an ›enlightened‹ representation. Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1739–1807) for example tried to (re-) present herself and her tiny court as well-informed in all current developments of fashion and the arts. The paper concludes in proposing further criteria to grasp the range of ›enlightenedness‹ of 18th-century princesses. Ainsi, membres des dynasties regnantes developpaient des strategies de se représenter comme princes ‹éclairés›. For the 16th birthday of the hereditary prince Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach on 3 September 1773, his teacher Christoph Martin Wieland had the play "The Choice of Hercules", a "dramatic cantata", performed at the Weimar court theatre. Did Wieland thus connect to a tradition of the Hercules myth connected with the dynasty or the place "Weimar", or did he use the motif because its Europe-wide distribution made it a catchy and malleable material for his intended empire-wide impact? The article asks in which media and in which forms the Hercules motif had appeared in Weimar since the end of the Middle Ages, and how Weimar appropriated this European myth. Zum 16.
