A Way to Use Waste Heat to Generate Thermoelectric Power

    Get PDF
In recent years there has been rising interest in thermoelectric generation as a potential source of electric power using waste heat. This paper describes thermoelectric power generation from waste heat from biomass boilers, utilizing generators that can convert heat energy directly to electrical energy. General principles of thermoelectric conversion and future prospects of these applications are discussed

Automatic biomass boiler with an external thermoelectric generator

Abstract. This paper presents the design and test results of an external thermoelectric generator that utilizes the waste heat from a small-scale domestic biomass boiler with nominal rated heat output of 25 kW. The low-temperature Bi2Te3 generator based on thermoelectric modules has the potential to recover waste heat from gas combustion products as effective energy. The small-scale generator is constructed from independent segments. Measurements have shown that up to 11 W of electricity can be generated by one segment. Higher output power can be achieved by linking thermoelectric segments. The maximum output power is given by the dew point of the flue gas. The electrical energy that is generated can be used, e.g., for power supply or for charging batteries. In the near future, thermoelectric generators could completely eliminate the dependence an automated domestic boiler system on the power supply from the electricity grid, and could ensure comfortable operation in the event of an unexpected power grid failure

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury and its contemporary prevention

    Get PDF
The complexity and application range of interventional and diagnostic procedures using contrast media (CM) have recently increased. This allows more patients to undergo procedures that involve CM administration. However, the intrinsic CM toxicity leads to the risk of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). At present, effective therapy of CI-AKI is rather limited. Effective prevention of CI-AKI therefore becomes crucially important. This review presents an in-depth discussion of CI-AKI incidence, pathogenesis, risk prediction, current preventive strategies, and novel treatment possibilities. The review also discusses the difference between CI-AKI incidence following intraarterial and intravenous CM administration. Factors contributing to the development of CI-AKI are considered in conjunction with the mechanism of acute kidney damage. The need for ultimate risk estimation and the prediction of CI-AKI is stressed. Possibilities of CI-AKI prevention is evaluated within the spectrum of existing preventive measures aimed at reducing kidney injury. In particular, the review discusses intravenous hydration regimes and pre-treatment with statins and N-acetylcysteine. The review further focuses on emerging alternative imaging technologies, alternative intravascular diagnostic and interventional procedures, and new methods for intravenous hydration guidance; it discusses the applicability of those techniques in complex procedures and their feasibility in current practise. We put emphasis on contemporary interventional cardiology imaging methods, with a brief discussion of CI-AKI in non-vascular and non-cardiologic imaging and interventional studies

On the Time Course of Synchronization Patterns of Neuronal Discharges in the Human Brain during Cognitive Tasks

Using intracerebral EEG recordings in a large cohort of human subjects, we investigate the time course of neural cross-talk during a simple cognitive task. Our results show that human brain dynamics undergo a characteristic sequence of synchronization patterns across different frequency bands following a visual oddball stimulus. In particular, an initial global reorganization in the delta and theta bands (2–8 Hz) is followed by gamma (20–95 Hz) and then beta band (12–20 Hz) synchrony

Investment in equities from the point of view of a beginning investor - natural person

    No full text
The main focus of this thesis is to deliver the basic information for starting investors. In the first part, there is a general characterization of equities as well as a description of disadvantages arising from the ownership. Other chapters deal with an investment strategy concerning the efficiency, risk and diversification. Data collection, investment horizon, inflation together with other fundamental indicators and their influence on investment decisions constitute the second half of the thesis. The last two chapters I devoted to comparison of financial brokers and links to current values of other important indicators

The estimation of property damage caused to the company ZLKL in consequence of damage of the ELBEE vehicle prototype.

The aim of this thesis is to estimate the property damage caused to the ZLKL company in consequence of damage of the ELBEE vehicle prototype. This property damage consists of a value of damaged parts, a value of work and overhead costs necessary to return the project to its original condition and a loss of earnings based on the delay of the ELBEE project, which led to a decline of the project value. I will seek the investment value using a valuation rate of return, specifically DCF entity method to the 30th of June 2012. The loss of earnings will be equal to the difference between the project value shortly before the accident and the project value shortly after the accident
