    Efeito do solvente na extração de ácidos clorogênicos, cafeína e trigonelina em Coffea arabica

    In this research work the effects of four solvents and their mixtures on the extraction of chlorogenic acids, caffeine and trigonelline in crude extracts of four coffee cultivars, traditional red bourbon, IAPAR59, IPR101 and IPR108 cultivars, were investigated by UV spectrophotometry and UV spectra obtained from RP-HPLC-DAD. The experimental results and the principal component analysis of UV spectra showed that the effect of solvent extraction of the metabolites does not depend on cultivars, because the spectral characteristics are similar, but the concentrations are different. The UV and UV-DAD spectra for four simplex centroid design mixtures were also similar but the concentrations of caffeine, trigonelline and the chlorogenic acids are different and depend on the solvent used in the extraction

    The multilayer perceptron network was used to classify the gasoline. The main parameters used in the classification were established by the Ordinance nº 309 of the Agência Nacional do Petróleo, but without informing the network the legal limits of these parameters. The network used had 10 neurons in a single hidden layer, learning rate of 0.04 and 250 training epochs. The application of artificial neural network served classify 100% of the commercialized gas in the region of Londrina-PR and to identify the tampered gasoline even those suspected of tampering

    Prevalence and health promotion actions related to hyposalivation and mouth discomfort in a nursing homesfor elders

    Objectiveto verify the prevalence of hyposalivation inan institutionalized elder population and its relationship with oral discomfort. A cross-sectional study was conducted with older people living in a Nursing Homein Fortaleza-Brazil. Data collection occurred through the application of sociodemographic questionnaire; sialometry examination, test for evaluating the salivary flow speed; and by a subjective quantification of dry mouth intensity (Visual Analog Scale). Results: sixty-five older people aged between 61 and 91 years (mean74.5±8.0) were evaluated, 30(46.2%) were women and 35(53.8%) men. The majority had low monthly income (55;84.6%) and low schooling (44;67.7%). The mean salivary flow was 0.4 ±0.2, withvery low flow (0.1-0.3 ml/min) being more prevalent; females presented lower salivary flow (p=0.033) than males; there was an association between salivary flow and dry mouth sensation (p<0.001) and halitosis (p<0.001). The correlation between sialometry and VAS showed that the lower the salivary flow, the greater the perception of dry mouth sensation. Health promotion actions and treatment (proper hydration; tooth brushing; saliva stimulants) can be performed in order to minimize dry mouth/ hyposalivation impact on elders’ quality of life.     The Prevalence of Sarcopenia in the Elderly: How the Consumption of Protein Supplement Interacts in Individuals of a Fortaleza Institution

    Introduction: Sarcopenia is a natural disturb that usually affects older people consisting in strength and muscle mass loss. Sedentary lifestyle and nutritional habits are some inducing factors. Supplementation may contribute to improvements on life quality in elders predisposed to sarcopenia. Objectives: verify the relevance of protein supplementation on life quality of elders predisposed to sarcopenia. Assess the individual's evolution along the study. Methods: protein supplementation application during 45 days on 13 elders, comparing them with 13 elders in control group without supplementation. Anthropometric measurements were performed before and after the 45 days period and evaluated for each participant, as well as their nutrition, individually. Results: We observed a improvement in some anthropometric measures, and a reduction in others, that might be explained by previous pathologies already diagnosed. Muscle mass changes were positive, according with specific reference measures. Some elders reported motor strength improvements, disposition and energy. Physical active participants showed more significant results and sedentary ones. Conclusion: positive outcomes were obtained from protein supplementation in older people, and more correlated studies are still necessary, considering the field's relevancy to longevity and overall life quality

    Análise físico-química de diesel interior em mistura com biodiesel = Physical-chemical analysis of diesel blended with biodiesel

    O uso de combustíveis alternativos para diminuir a emissão de poluentes na atmosfera é uma tendência cada dia mais frequente, assim, faz-se necessária a investigação da eficiência destas misturas em proporções e condições diferentes. Ao diesel de petróleo, por forçade legislação, estão sendo adicionados 3% de biodiesel. Os valores da massa específica e do ponto de fulgor das amostras de diesel comercial analisadas, contendo 2 e 3% de biodiesel, mostraramsedentro dos parâmetros estabelecidos pela legislação brasileira. Os valores do índice de peróxido do biodiesel B100 aumentaram com o tempo de estocagem e com a presença de luz. Apesar disso, pela análise do perfil cromatográfico, não se verificaram alterações profundas na composição química do diesel B100 nas diferentes condições de armazenamento. Thus, it becomes necessary to research the efficiency of theses mixtures in various proportions and different conditions. To diesel oil, under the legislation, are being added 3% of biodiesel. The values of specific weight and the flashpoint of the samples of commercial diesel tested, containing 2 and 3% of biodiesel, were within the established parameters set by Brazilian legislation. The values of the peroxide index for B100 biodiesel increased with light and storage time. Nevertheless, analyzing the chromatographic profile, there were no considerable changes in the chemical composition of B100 diesel under different conditions of storage.
