    THE PROS AND CONS OF INTEGRATING COLLABORATIVE LEARNING INTO LESSON PLAN DESIGN

    Collaborative learning is a learner-centered approach that facilitates students to involve in a team work in order to achieve a certain goal in learning activities. This descriptive qualitative study investigated the pros and cons of integrating collaborative learning into lesson plan design from the perspectives of thirty students of primary school teacher education study program. Questionnaire and interview were used to figure out the students’ perspectives dealing with the issues. The data were collected, classified, analyzed, and interpreted. The results revealed that providing support system, developing communication skills, promoting autonomous learning, enhancing interaction, motivation, confidence, and critical thinking, and enriching knowledge, insight, and experience are among the pros of collaborative learning. Meanwhile, the cons of collaborative learning include imbalance task distribution, personal conflict, and distraction causes. Therefore, guiding, monitoring, and evaluating from the lecturer are highly required to maximize the pros and minimize the cons. It is expected that this research provides new perspectives of the utilization of collaborative learning in EFL learning activities especially lesson plan design

    This study seeks to present an overview of the positive effects of incorporating Duolingo into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. Through a review of fifteen journal articles sourced from reputable online databases, the researcher analyzed the effectiveness of using Duolingo in EFL learning. The findings indicated that integrating Duolingo into EFL learning had several benefits, including improved mastery of grammar and vocabulary, enhanced listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, and increased student motivation to learn. The results of this study provide valuable and comprehensive information regarding the positive impacts of incorporating Duolingo into EFL learning. Such information is not commonly presented in similar research, which often focuses on investigating the use of Duolingo to improve specific English skills or components. This research aims to contribute to the development of EFL research by offering new insights into the integration of Duolingo into EFL learning

    Designing Solar System Material Through Science Domino Game and Booklet

    Teaching and learning activity of science lesson in elementary school is considered less interesting due to the use of monotonous and memorizing methods. Solar system is a common topic which taught by applying these methods. In order to anticipate boredom and monotony, supporting learning media which trains students to be active, creative, and have better understanding is required. This study aims to find out the role of science domino game and booklet in improving the sixth grade elementary school comprehension of students on basic concept of solar system topic and generating a learning trajectory on solar system topic. It used design research which consists of preliminary design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. Therefore, it described how science domino game and booklet enhanced ability of students in grasping basic concept on solar system topic and how the learning media yielded a learning trajectory in learning activity on solar system topic. Interview, observation, and documentation were used to collect the data. Based on the results of research, researchers produce learning trajectory about the solar system that can be used in learning and increased comprehension concept of students about the solar system

    Fostering Students’ Writing Achievement Through Weblog

    To support students’ academic success, it is essential to equip them with good ability in writing. However, most of students encounter some problems in writing since writing involves essential, constructive, and complicated process. There are several ways to facilitate students to develop their writing. Due to many students inherent interest in technological things, thus implementing an online tool can be an alternative way to foster students’ writing achievement. One of the choices is using weblog. As many studies revealed that weblog could enhance students’ writing skills. Therefore, this study integrated weblog into students learning activities. Furthermore, it involved forty eleventh grade students that divided into two groups; experimental and control groups. At the end of the study, the students in experimental group gained better writing achievement than those who were in control group. It points out that learning through weblog could help students to enhance their writing achievement

    INTEGRATING ENGLISH INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY TO EMPOWER STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

    Abstract: The integration of technology into English Language Teaching (ELT) has been developed recently. Many studies revealed that the impacts of English instructional technology can enhance the students’ English learning achievements. However, there are some problems that need more concern from educators.One of them is reading comprehension as it is one of the crucial skills in National Examination in Indonesia. To empower students’ reading comprehension, the successful integration of English instructional technology into ELT could be the solution to cope with it. In this study, Webquest is an instructional technology tool used to increase students’ reading comprehension achievements. Sixty two of senior high school students were involved as participants of this study. By conducting experimental research, thirty-one students were in the experimental group and the others were in the control group. The results revealed that the experimental group achieved higher scores than the control group. It indicates that Webquest is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension achievements. In a nutshell, the implementation of technology in ELT could empower students’ reading comprehension. Key words: English instructional technology, reading comprehension, Webques

    This study aims to provide general portrait of positive impacts of Duolingo integration into EFL learning. In this review study, the researcher analyzed fifteen journal articles selected from reliable online database sources in order to identify the effectiveness of utilizing Duolingo in EFL learning. The findings revealed that integrating Duolingo into EFL learning promoted the improvement of grammar and vocabulary mastery, enhancement of listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, and progress of learning motivation of the students. The results of this study provided fruitful and comprehensive information on the positive impacts of the integration of Duolingo into EFL learning. This type of information is uncommonly presented in the similar research which mostly concerning with investigating the use of Duolingo to improve certain English skill or component. It is expected that this research contributes to the development of EFL research through providing new insight on the integration of Duolingo into EFL learning

Webquest is one of the web-based tools used in English learning. This study shed light on the use of Webquest in English learning through reviewing twenty journal articles to determine the effectiveness of utilizing Webquest in improving students’ English skills and components. ERIC, Academia, JSTOR, and Elsevier are the primary online database sources used in this study. The result of the investigation revealed that Webquest not only highly contributed to the enhancement of students’ listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills but also greatly supported the development of students’ grammar and vocabulary masteries. In short, Webquest is an ideal alternative learning tool to promote the development of students’ English skills and components

    The shift of teacher-centered to students-centered in English language teaching demands learners to be capable to do a learning method transformation of being dependent into independent. In EFL classroom context, autonomy is viewed as a substantial behavior to conform the demand and achieve the assigned language learning outcomes. In a matter of fact, learners’ English proficiency should be considered to make sure that the concept of independent learning might be well-executed. This study aims to find out a correlation between freshmen’s autonomy in learning and their English proficiency. Two hundred and one students of 2018/2019 batch were be involved as the sample of this study. They were selected by using proportionate sampling method. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. The results were obtained through the descriptive and statistical analysis, which aimed to find out the correlation between learner autonomy and English proficiency. Furthermore, library study was done to portray additional information of the two variables. The implications of the findings of this study were discussed
