(pp. 762–767).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Flies are insects that can recognize colors due to their phototropic nature, making them sensitive to specific wavelengths of light. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of various shades of purple on fly attraction. This research employed a quantitative experimental design with a post-test-only control group approach. The results indicated findings revealed a statistically significant difference between the light magenta and dark purple fly grill variations (p-value = 0.018; MD = 12.27500). The highest average fly density was found on the light magenta fly grill with 30.75 flies/block, followed by the light purple with 25 flies/block, and the lowest on the dark purple with 18.1 flies/block; meanwhile, the unpainted (wood) fly grill showed a density of 23 flies/block. The Specifically, light magenta purple attracted the highest number of flies, indicating its effectiveness as a trap color. Based on the research results, utilizing light magenta purple fly grills could enhance fly trapping efficiency. It is recommended that the use of light magenta fly grills be prioritized in fly control strategies in areas prone to infestation, such as landfills

Effectiveness of betel leaves (Piper betle) as a vegetable pesticide to suppress pests insect populations on cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 90–102). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Cayenne pepper (Capsicum fructuscens L.) has a very high potential for cultivation, but the problem of cayenne pepper cultivation is never free from pest disease, so ethane used chemical pesticides because it is considered more effective and efficient. The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of betel leaf weeds as botanical pesticides to suppressed pests in cayenne pepper. The methods used in this study are Group Randomization Design (GRD) with each group consisting of five treatments, namely P1 (control), P2 (50 gr/l), P3 (100 gr/l), P4 (150 gr/l), P5 (200 gr/) and six tests with a total of 30 cayenne pepper. The results of the studied on P5 (200 gr/l) had the highest insect diversity of 1.94, while P1 (control) had the lowest insect diversity of 1,10. The insect diversity found in the study based on observations from 1 to 80 Days After Planting consisted of 11 species covering several orders such as Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Aranae, Hemiptera, and Hymenoptera. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the dose of betel leaf pesticide used, the lower the attack of insect pests with species of aphids (Aphis gossypii), mealybugs (Pseudococcus sp.), flies (Sarcophaga sp.), caterpillars (Syrphidae sp. larvae), spiders (Araneus sp., Neoscona sp., Paidiscura sp., Oxyopes sp.), ants (Tapinoma sp.), ladybugs (Coccinellidae sp. pupa), and butterflies (Agraulis sp. larvae) on cayenne pepper. Thus, the use of botanical pesticides must be used with the appropriate dose in order to suppress the development of insect pest populations on cayenne pepper

This research aimed to identify insect species present in storage commodities through the observation and morphological identification of warehouse pest species. The research was performed via a microscope and identification manuals, with specimens gathered from the distribution of warehouse insects in the markets of Palembang City. Data acquired using sample techniques and specification determination. Observations conducted in various marketplaces within the Palembang region revealed that the warehouse pest population table indicated distinct population variability for each species across the markets. The species comprise Sitophilus oryzae, Tribolium castaneum, Oryzaephilus surinamensis, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Carpophilus dimidiatus, and Rhyzopertha dominica. Each species possesses distinct traits, whether in the head, thorax, or abdomen. The species Tribolium castaneum was only located in the Kebun Semai market, whereas the population of Oryzaephilus surinamensis was predominantly discovered in the Perumnas market. The species Rhyzopertha dominica and Cryptolestes ferrigineus were predominantly found at the Sekip Ujung Market and Kebun Semai Market. In the Perumnas market, there are 22 specimens of S. oryzae and 18 specimens of O. surinamensis. In the Sekip Ujung market, there are 18 specimens of R. dominica and 19 specimens of S. oryzae. In the Kebun Semai market, there are 17 specimens of R. dominica, 13 specimens of T. castaneum, and 11 specimens of C. ferrugineus, respectively. The state of the warehouse's physical condition. The implementation of ceramic floors, net-covered open ventilation, roll-up doors, pallets, and a zinc roof helps mitigate insect populations in the storage warehouse, hence minimizing damage to commodities

This study aimed to utilize anthocyanin compounds in rosella flower extract as a natural detector of formalin content in tofu. To achieve this goal, this study used an experimental method with a qualitative approach. Tofu samples were obtained from several traders in the market around Teluk Gelam Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. Preparation of rosella flower extract was carried out using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The rosella flower extract was then dripped on tofu samples and observed for color changes. The observation data were analyzed descriptively qualitative. The results showed that rosella flower extract was effective in detecting formalin content in tofu. The best treatment was obtained at a concentration of 5 ml rosella extract + 20 ml distilled water (P3) which produced a clear color change in the tofu. Tofu containing formalin will change color to a solid red, while tofu that does not contain formalin does not show significant color changes. Thus, rosella flower extract can be utilized as a natural detector of formalin content in tofu

Mustard fruit is an agricultural product that cannot be stored for a long time, so it is at high risk in marketing. This field practice aimed to identify insect species found on mustard fruit in the ATC (Agriculture Training Center) field and in places overgrown with mustard fruit inside the Sriwijaya University Indralaya campus. This field practice uses direct survey methods and insect identification using the Google Picture Insect application. The results showed that 4 different orders and 7 different families were found. The insect orders are Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and Lepidoptera. For the Diptera order, 2 families were found, namely D. melanogaster from the Drosophilidae family and B. dorsalis from the Tephritidae family. The Lepidoptera order also found 2 families, namely O. subnotata from the Erebidae family and L. omnivora from the Psychidae family. As for the other 3 orders, each insect order only found one family. Of all the insects identified, C. pennsylvanicus and P. manihot were the two most common insect species found on the three observed sawo plants. The number of fruit flies found on sawo plants was 83, the intensity of attack on sawo fruits was up to 29.61%. Based on the results found there are 7 species of insects and 1 species of spiders that are found to live in mustard plants. The 7 insect species are Drosophila melanogaster, Bactrocera dorsalis, Phenacoccus manihot, Tartessus ferrugineus, Camponotus pennsylvanicus, Orvasca subnotata, Liothula Omnivora, and the spider species found is Telemonia dimidiate. The ant species Camponotus pennsylvanicus can be found in all parts of the sawo plant. Insect species in the ATC field included B. dorsalis, P. manihot, C. pennsylvanicus, and O. subnotata. And one spider species found in the ATC field is the spider species T. dimidiata. Meanwhile, at least 3 insect species were found in fisip fruit plantations. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 48–58).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Lead (Pb) is one of common heavy metal pollutant that produced from human activities. Lead pollution produced from fuel, mining activities, fertilizer, pesticides application, and industrial activities that contribute to urban pollution level. Lead concentration in soil cause health problems such as digestive disorders, kidney disease, anemia, and decrease of intelligent quotient (IQ) score. High concentration of blood lead level caused negative health impacts such as increase of cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, blood anemia, loss of vision, and  bones impair development. Recent science development has given us several alternatives to reduce lead contamination in water and soil, one of which is phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is a process of soil and water decontamination from hazardous substances with plants. Ornamental plants become alternative method of lead phytoremediation because it is unconsumed by human and animals as well as served decorative function. In this paper, various ornamental plant species that show a high capacity to tolerate, accumulate, and improve contaminated soil of lead will be described. Plants with lead phytoremediaton abilities could become solution for urban green space utilization in Indonesia. The purpose of this paper was to determine the types of ornamental plants that can be used as phytoremediators for lead (Pb) contamination in urban areas and to determine the mechanism process
