    Arsenic Contamination in Food-chain: Transfer of Arsenic into Food Materials through Groundwater Irrigation

    Arsenic contamination in groundwater in Bangladesh has become an additional concern vis-à-vis its use for irrigation purposes. Even if arsenic-safe drinking-water is assured, the question of irrigating soils with arsenic-laden groundwater will continue for years to come. Immediate attention should be given to assess the possibility of accumulating arsenic in soils through irrigation-water and its subsequent entry into the food-chain through various food crops and fodders. With this possibility in mind, arsenic content of 2,500 water, soil and vegetable samples from arsenic-affected and arsenic-unaffected areas were analyzed during 1999–2004. Other sources of foods and fodders were also analyzed. Irrigating a rice field with groundwater containing 0.55 mg/L of arsenic with a water requirement of 1,000 mm results in an estimated addition of 5.5 kg of arsenic per ha per annum. Concentration of arsenic as high as 80 mg per kg of soil was found in an area receiving arsenic-contaminated irrigation. A comparison of results from affected and unaffected areas revealed that some commonly-grown vegetables, which would usually be suitable as good sources of nourishment, accumulate substantially-elevated amounts of arsenic. For example, more than 150 mg/kg of arsenic has been found to be accumulated in arum (kochu) vegetable.     Human Health Risk Assessment For Arsenic: A Critical Review

    Millions of people are exposed to arsenic resulting in a range of health implications.This paper provides an up-to-date review of the different sources of arsenic (water, soil and food), indicators of human exposure (biomarker assessment of hair, nail, urine and blood), epidemiological and toxicological studies on carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health outcomes, and risk assessment approaches. The review demonstrates a need for more work evaluating the risks of different arsenic species such as; arsenate, arsenite monomethylarsonic acid, monomethylarsonous acid, dimethylarsinic acid and dimethylarsinous acid as well as a need to better integrate the different exposure sources in risk assessments

    Performance analysis of OTFT-based SRAM topologies

    In terms of mechanical flexibility, organic SRAM offers better designs and a commercially feasible option with the ability to deliver acceptable performance. This paper investigates the implementation of different SRAM topologies based on organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). In this work, a compact spice model is used to simulate pOTFT and nOTFT in LTSpice software. Time delays, power consumption, the power delay product (PDP), and static noise margin (SNM) for read and write operations are calculated, and a comparative analysis of OTFT based 6T, 7T, 8T, and 9T SRAM topologies is performed. Among different topologies, 9T OTFT SRAM cell achieves a 1.67× increase in SNM, compared to conventional 6T OTFT-based SRAM cell. The highest figure of merit value of 9T SRAM cell indicates its suitability for various applications
