    Get PDF
In a regional scenario where many changes are taking place in the organization of productive processes and on working conditions, it is appropriate to continue reflecting on the available ways to produce knowledge in the field of occupational health. This article seeks to be a contribution to this debate by making a methodological examination of a research on psychosocial risks carried out in the National Social Services Administration (Anses) of Argentina. This research was initiated by the request of the trade union Secasfpi, which needed to expose and to scientifically support the existence of a series of psychosocial ailments among workers, which they perceived as increasing but were not recognized by the employing organization. Also, the trade union needed to develop intervention strategies that would be effective in eliminating the incidence of these risks. Based on the features acquired by the research carried out, it is possible to locate it within the paradigm of “participatory-action-research”, which implies a concrete approach to reality where scientific research, social praxis and the involvement of those who will use de results are interconnected. This paper revisit this experience and aims to examine, in methodological terms, the potentialities and challenges posed during this joint research between academic and union actors carried out in the Anses. In this sense, the text seeks to reconstruct the dynamics established between the various actors involved –researchers, union representatives, delegates, workers and others– to highlight what role each one played in the development of research and how a collaborative work programme was established. In this way, we will seek to systematize and transmit a research experience that can be replicated in other work contexts where psychosocial risks are investigated, recovering and valuing the workers’ knowledge.Fil: Henry, Maria Laura. Heterogeneous hierarchical workflow composition

    Get PDF
Workflow systems promise scientists an automated end-to-end path from hypothesis to discovery. However, expecting any single workflow system to deliver such a wide range of capabilities is impractical. A more practical solution is to compose the end-to-end workflow from more than one system. With this goal in mind, the integration of task-based and in situ workflows is explored, where the result is a hierarchical heterogeneous workflow composed of subworkflows, with different levels of the hierarchy using different programming, execution, and data models. Materials science use cases demonstrate the advantages of such heterogeneous hierarchical workflow composition. This work is a collaboration between Argonne National Laboratory and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center within the Joint Laboratory for Extreme-Scale Computing. The development of communication technology causes smartphones to dominate the market, especially Chinese smartphone products. The number of Chinese products in the market is due to cheap and affordable prices, but not accompanied by good quality so that the Indonesian people already have their own views on Chinese products. However, Xiaomi as one of the mobile phone manufacturers from China in fact managed to become one of the kings of the smartphone market in Indonesia, this is because the price is affordable. This study aims to analyze interest and purchase decisions through price, quality and innovation. The results of data processing proved that all statement items were valid and all variables were reliable. The results showed that interest and purchasing decisions for Xiaomi smartphones in East Surabaya through price, quality and innovation were said to be moderate. Subsequent results show consumer interest and purchase decisions due to price and product quality, while innovation is not the cause of interest and purchase decisions for Xiaomi smartphones in East Surabaya, but purchasing decisions are due to price and product quality through interest firs

    Get PDF
Hybrid Media and Political Trials: How legacy journalism perceives citizen journalism and social media in political trials - the case of #jobstownnotguilty

    Get PDF
The relationship between Social Media and Legacy Media has been of much interest to scholars. This paper investigates an interesting, contentious and politicised court case where the heretofore monopoly of professional journalism, court reporting, was challenged by citizen journalists. The case concerned a 2014 sit down protest in Jobstown, Tallaght, a working-class suburb of Dublin, where a sitting Minister Joan Burton TD, was blocked in her car for several hours by local protesters. A number of protesters, many months after the incident, were arrested and charged with false imprisonment

Teaching Internal Medicine Residents about Genetics: One topic at a Time - Breast Cancer

    Get PDF
Background: Currently, the field of medicine is experiencing rapid changes in genetics and genomics information. While medical school curricula all include some genetics education, the content may vary from one school to another, leaving Internal Medicine (IM) residents with different skills and knowledge. In an IM residency where residents come from different medical schools, presenting an organized genetics curriculum may have value. Patients expect their physicians to be knowledgeable and current about their specific disease, including the genetic components and expect that they can inform them about terminology, inheritance, diagnostic testing, risks and benefits of testing. Physicians will need education about how to find current information about genetics factors in many diseases, and how to inform and counsel their patients using web-based tools. Purpose: The purpose of this project was to identify baseline genetics knowledge of Internal Medicine (IM) Residents at The George Washington University, and to determine if a 1-hour presentation can be used to improve their knowledge. Methods: We performed a literature review of currently available information on genetics curriculum for IM residents and residency programs in other specialties. Although there is no standardized curriculum in genetics for IM residents, we did identify a proposed curriculum in genetics for IM1.There has also been research in education about genetics in other residencies including Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry and Surgery2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. We propose to deliver a one-hour presentation about genetics and breast cancer to IM residents and medical students at GWU during Grand Rounds. The presentation will include concepts in genetics, as well as specific information about breast cancer and guidelines for testing. We plan a pre-test to assess knowledge about genetics and breast cancer, a one-hour presentation and a post-test. Pre-test and post-test scores will be compared using student’s t-test. Conclusion: We plan to evaluate the efficacy of a one-hour presentation for teaching genetics and use it as a possible model for other genetics education for IM residents. Possible topics for monthly presentations could include: colon cancer, ovarian cancer, emphysema, cardiology – long and short QT, among others

Naming treatment in semantic and logopenic variant PPA

Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is an acquired impairment of language caused by neurodegenerative disease affecting language regions in the brain. Unlike aphasia caused by stroke, the language impairments in PPA gradually worsen over time as atrophy spreads. Current consensus criteria for diagnosis identify three clinical variants, each of which is associated with a different pathological entity: a semantic variant, with verbal and nonverbal semantic deficits; a logopenic variant, with anomia and phonological working memory problems; and a nonfluent variant, with agrammatism and/or apraxia of speech (Gorno-Tempini et al., 2011; Gorno-Tempini et al., 2004)
