Eigen Subspace based Direction of Arrival Estimation for Coherent Sources

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation technology plays an important role in enhancing the performance of the adaptive arrays for mobile communication. In this paper comparative performance analysis of eigen subspace based DOA estimation for coherent sources is presented. A number of DOA estimation algorithms based on eigen subspace method have been developed. Among these MUSIC algorithm is considered to have exceptionally good results. The focus of this paper is to unveil the performance characteristics of MUSIC algorithm and its improved version for coherent sources. The simulation results show that the improved MUSIC algorithm is the best. Also it can be observed that the resolution of DOA estimation improves as the number of snapshots and signal to noise ratio increases

The globalization and the competitiveness are enforcing organizations to readdress and innovate their production processes. The world is entering a new era of industrial emanating technology in automation and data exchange through the use of Internet of Things called fourth technological revolution or Industry 4.0. It represents the amalgamation of tools already used in the past such as big data; cloud, robot, 3D printing, simulation, etc. are now connected into an internet to transmit digital data. For the implementation of this new paradigm, there are many opportunities and also many challenges. This paper highlights brief introduction on challenges and opportunities for implementation of Industry 4.0 in India

Pulsed electric field processing of functional drink based on tender coconut water (Cococus nucifera L.) - nannari (Hemidesmus indicus) blended beverage

Tender coconut water (Cocos nucifera L.) Nannari extract (Hemidesmus indicus L.) ready-to serve (RTS) blended beverage were optimised. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the levels of independent variables (levels of tender coconut water, nannari extract and sugar). The responses of pH, ºBrix, CIE colour (L*, a* and b*) value and OAA were studied. The data obtained were analysed by multiple regression technique to generate suitable mathematical models. The developed blended beverage was processed using pulsed electric field (PEF) with electric field 31.2 kV/cm, 20 pulse widths at 100 Hz frequency to minimise nutritional and sensory attributes losses and compared with conventional thermal pasteurization (96 ºC for 360 s) with p-value of 8.03. Thermal pasteurization showed a significant (p<0.05) decrease in colour value, radical scavenging activity and overall acceptability after treatment and also during storage, when compared to PEF treated tender coconut water-nannari blended beverage. PEF treatment also achieved a 3.01 ± 0.69 log inactivation, similar to thermal pasteurization of native micro flora. PEF treated tender coconut water-nannari blended beverage was stable up to 120 days under ambient storage condition (27-30 °C)

Case-based reasoning approach for decision-making in building retrofit: A review

    Get PDF
The rapid development of computer science has brought inspirations to building retrofit. Artificial intelligence (AI) provides more possibilities in decision-making for building retrofit, could be regarded as an alternative strategy compared to the abundant research time spent in the early decision-making stage of traditional retrofit approaches. This paper reviews the application of the statistic algorithm and AI approach, including CBR, in building retrofit decision-making, and the essential process of CBR, such as workflow, similarity degree calculation method, weight factors correction manner, and input or output content using building design to provide a synthetic overview of CBR utilisation in the building retrofit realm. Among those different models, Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is valuable in providing references and avoiding possible failures, which is a promising approach for building retrofit. Yet, current research mainly focused on its utilisation to solve specific issues. There is still a lack of systematically summarised research on Case-Based Reasoning solution. Therefore, this study analyses the methods used for CBR approach in the field of building retrofit decision-making process, aiming to find the characteristics of internal commonness. It concludes that CBR has two significant impact factors: similarity attribute type and similarity calculation manner, which determines the judgement process. The results show that the CBR solution has great application potential in further building retrofit design

Fishery resources of Ullal (Mangalore) in relation to certain environmental factors during 1963-67

    Get PDF
Ullal, an important fishing centre situated 3 Km south of Mangalore, was known for shark fishery in the past. However, owing to the decline in the shark fishery, fishing for sardine, mackerel etc has been resorted to bottom dwelling during the past two decades. While Mangalore is at present a landing centre for ground fishes of the mechanised boats, Ullal is of special significance, being the nearest fishing village where variout' types of indigenous gears are employed mainly for pelagic fishes. Yet, the fishery potentiality of this area has remained unknown

Decoding pituitary tumors: a systematic analysis of diagnostic methods and treatment modalities

    Get PDF
Pituitary tumors are growths that form in the gland these tumors are rare representing 10-15% of all brain tumors. They can disrupt the production of hormones, in the body leading to symptoms related to hormone imbalance. This review offers an overview of the methods used for diagnosing and treating tumors. It is worth noting that relying solely on references may restrict the scope and depth of discussions about tumors in this paper. Suggestions for research include exploring diagnostic tools like molecular imaging and liquid biopsy to enhance early detection and accurate assessment of these tumors. Additionally, more research is required to understand the long-term effects and quality of life outcomes for patients undergoing treatment options for tumors. In conclusion, significant progress has been made in diagnosing and treating tumors over time. Advances in imaging technologies such as diffusion-weighted imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy have enhanced precision and treatment strategies for these tumors. The discussion also covers the roles of surgery, radiation therapy and medical interventions, in managing tumor growth and hormonal imbalances further advancements, in research and innovation are crucial, for enhancing our knowledge and treatment of tumors ultimately bringing outcomes for both patients and healthcare professionals.
