Extending PT symmetry from Heisenberg algebra to E2 algebra
The E2 algebra has three elements, J, u, and v, which satisfy the commutation
relations [u,J]=iv, [v,J]=-iu, [u,v]=0. We can construct the Hamiltonian
H=J^2+gu, where g is a real parameter, from these elements. This Hamiltonian is
Hermitian and consequently it has real eigenvalues. However, we can also
construct the PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian Hamiltonian H=J^2+igu, where again
g is real. As in the case of PT-symmetric Hamiltonians constructed from the
elements x and p of the Heisenberg algebra, there are two regions in parameter
space for this PT-symmetric Hamiltonian, a region of unbroken PT symmetry in
which all the eigenvalues are real and a region of broken PT symmetry in which
some of the eigenvalues are complex. The two regions are separated by a
critical value of g.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Supporting pruning in tabled LP
This paper analyzes issues which appear when supporting pruning operators in tabled LP. A version of the once/1 control predicate tailored for tabled predicates is presented, and an implementation analyzed and evaluated. Using once/1 with answer-on-demand strategies makes it possible to avoid computing unneeded solutions for problems which can benefit from tabled LP but in which only a single solution is needed, such as model checking and planning. The proposed version of once/1 is also directly applicable to the efficient implementation of other optimizations, such as early completion, cut-fail loops (to, e.g., prune at the top level), if-then-else, and constraint-based branch-and-bound optimization. Although once/1 still presents open issues such as dependencies of tabled solutions on program history, our experimental evaluation confirms that it provides an arbitrarily large efficiency improvement in several application areas
Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first
searches for and decays into invisible final states.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; Added references, Corrected typo
Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> and Decays
The system in decays of is limited to be
isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying
compared with and experiments which mix
isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the system. Using 58 million decays
collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand
events are obtained. Besides two well known
peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear peaks in
the invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the
first direct observation of the peak and a long-sought "missing"
peak above 2 GeV in the invariant mass spectrum. A simple
Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the peak as MeV and MeV, and for the new peak above 2 GeV
as MeV and MeV, respectively
Relativistic Mean Field Model with Generalized Derivative Nucleon-Meson Couplings
The quantum hadrodynamics (QHD) model with minimal nucleon-meson couplings is
generalized by introducing couplings of mesons to derivatives of the nucleon
field in the Lagrangian density. This approach allows an effective description
of a state-dependent in-medium interaction in the mean-field approximation.
Various parametrizations for the generalized couplings are developed and
applied to infinite nuclear matter. In this approach, scalar and vector
self-energies depend on both density and momentum similarly as in the
Dirac-Brueckner theory. The Schr\"{o}diger-equivalent optical potential is much
less repulsive at high nucleon energies as compared to standard relativistic
mean field models and thus agrees better with experimental findings. The
derivative couplings in the extended model have significant effects on
properties of symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter.Comment: 35 pages, 1 table, 10 figure
Non-Markovian dynamics in a spin star system: The failure of thermalization
In most cases, a small system weakly interacting with a thermal bath will
finally reach the thermal state with the temperature of the bath. We show that
this intuitive picture is not always true by a spin star model where non-Markov
effect predominates in the whole dynamical process. The spin star system
consists a central spin homogeneously interacting with an ensemble of identical
noninteracting spins. We find that the correlation time of the bath is
infinite, which implies that the bath has a perfect memory, and that the
dynamical evolution of the central spin must be non- Markovian. A direct
consequence is that the final state of the central spin is not the thermal
state equilibrium with the bath, but a steady state which depends on its
initial state.Comment: 8 page
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

Partial wave analysis of J/\psi \to \gamma \phi \phi
Using events collected in the BESII detector, the
radiative decay is
studied. The invariant mass distribution exhibits a near-threshold
enhancement that peaks around 2.24 GeV/.
A partial wave analysis shows that the structure is dominated by a
