La cita tomó sesenta minutos y fue concertada por el doctor Celestino Fernández, un distinguido y generoso académico de la Universidad de Arizona con la que el CETYS, institución educativa de Baja California, mantiene lazos de colaboración. Este volumen contiene la transcripción de la conversación con Noam Chomsky en su lengua original y su traducción al castellano, secundada de una terna de asedios a la obra del filósofo norteamericano emprendidos respectivamente por tres de los ocho docentes del claustro profesoral del CETYS embarcados a la cita en Tucson. Mientras Carlos González Palacios se aboca a bosquejar la semblanza del versátil autor incardinado en el cuadrante del llamado socialismo libertario, Teresita Higashi Villalvazo aborda el filón pedagógico y teorético de Chomsky, cediendo el desenlace de este circuito de elucubraciones a los vínculos del clarividente imaginario de Noam Chomsky con el tópico de los medios de comunicación explorado por Liliana López León. —Jorge Ortega1a ed

A Multiple System of Radio Sources at the Core of the L723 Multipolar Outflow

We present high angular resolution Very Large Array multi-epoch continuum observations at 3.6 cm and 7 mm towards the core of the L723 multipolar outflow revealing a multiple system of four radio sources suspected to be YSOs in a region of only ~4 arcsecs (1200 AU) in extent. The 3.6 cm observations show that the previously detected source VLA 2 contains a close (separation ~0.29 arcsecs or ~90 AU) radio binary, with components (A and B) along a position angle of ~150 degrees. The northern component (VLA 2A) of this binary system is also detected in the 7 mm observations, with a positive spectral index between 3.6 cm and 7 mm. In addition, the source VLA 2A is associated with extended emission along a position angle of ~115 degrees, that we interpret as outflowing shock-ionized gas that is exciting a system of HH objects with the same position angle. A third, weak 3.6 cm source, VLA 2C, that is detected also at 7 mm, is located ~0.7 arcsecs northeast of VLA 2A, and is possibly associated with the water maser emission in the region. The 7 mm observations reveal the presence of an additional source, VLA 2D, located ~3.5 arcsecs southeast of VLA 2A, and with a 1.35 mm counterpart. All these radio continuum sources have a positive spectral index, compatible with them being YSOs. We also propose that the high velocity CO emission observed in the region could be the superposition of multiple outflows (at least three independent bipolar outflows) excited by the YSOs located at the core, instead of the previous interpretations in terms of only one or two outflows.Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal (2007 December 6

Este libro es una ventana abierta para hacer visible una realidad incómoda que, durante mucho tiempo, se ha querido que permanezca oculta, invisible. La invisibilización de las víctimas es la mejor estrategia para ocultar la injusticia. Si los pobres nos e en, es que no existen. Lo revulsivo de este libro es que se atreve a sacar a la luz a los invisibles, a aquellos que no tienen rostro y sólo cuentan en las estadísticas. Darles voz a los que no tienen voz; darles la palabra a quienes han permanecido mudos, sin capacidad de decir, "su" palabra es la mejor aportación de esta obra. Los autores no se apropian de la palabra de los verdaderos protagonistas: los que viven en Los Santorales (Mexicali). Se ha querido que sean ellos quienes pongan nombre a sus problemas, los que identifiquen las causas de su situación de exclusión y las posibles medidas para mejorar sus condiciones de vida. Sus testimonios describen la crudeza de una realidad y la enorme dificultad para cambiarla

Durante el segundo semestre de 2021 ha comenzado la transición a la “nueva normalidad”. Para nosotros, en CETYS Universidad, ha significado adaptarnos al nuevo modelo híbrido que parece ha llegado para quedarse. ¿Qué ha significado para el profesorado y el alumnado migrar del salón de clases a una sala virtual? ¿Qué consecuencias ha traído la intervención tecnológica en los procesos de enseñanza y comunicación? De este tema escribe Alberto Gárate Rivera en su libro "El profesorado frente a la pandemia" (Octaedro, 2020), de donde compartimos el texto introductorio; así también Carlos González Pala-cios y Liliana López León, en “La responsabilidad de humanizar la mediación tecnológica”, capítulo incluido en el libro "Universidad y pandemia" (CETYS Universidad, 2021). La sección de Umbrales continúa con la reflexión de las psicólogas Elia Paulina González y Alma Belén Minguela, “Perspectiva de género en la psicoterapia”, quienes forman parte de Mind it!, en donde brindan servicios de salud mental y perspectiva de género en los trabajos, y concientizan sobre la violencia de género y la psicoterapia feminista. La artista visual invitada en Reflejos, es Lisbeth Chávez, quien comparte “Retratar la vida cotidiana y el género”, una muestra de tres series fotográficas que documentan y exploran el género, las formas de habitar, la migración y la precariedad. En Ordalías encontrarás uno de los primeros cuentos escritos por Emiliano González, autor mexicano de literatura fantástica que perdimos este año, y a quien, a manera de homenaje, invitamos a leer y buscar su recién reeditado libro "Los sueños de la bella durmiente" (Penguin Random House, 2021), con prólogo de Miguel Lupián, editor de la antología de donde tomamos este cuento. Enseguida encontrarán siete poemas de Manuel Romero, poeta y periodista cultural tijuanense, y cerramos con “Víctor Soto Ferrel: Testigo a la orilla”, un texto de Alfonso René Gutiérrez leído en la ceremonia de reconocimiento al profesor y poeta Víctor Soto, que se llevó a cabo en 2019, en la Casa de la Cultura de Tijuana. Growth Hormone Reprograms Macrophages toward an Anti-Inflammatory and Reparative Profile in an MAFB-Dependent Manner

Growth hormone (GH), a pleiotropic hormone secreted by the pituitary gland, regulates immune and inflammatory responses. In this study, we show that GH regulates the phenotypic and functional plasticity of macrophages both in vitro and in vivo. Specifically, GH treatment of GM-CSF–primed monocyte–derived macrophages promotes a significant enrichment of anti-inflammatory genes and dampens the proinflammatory cytokine profile through PI3K-mediated downregulation of activin A and upregulation of MAFB, a critical transcription factor for anti-inflammatory polarization of human macrophages. These in vitro data correlate with improved remission of inflammation and mucosal repair during recovery in the acute dextran sodium sulfate–induced colitis model in GH-overexpressing mice. In this model, in addition to the GH-mediated effects on other immune cells, we observed that macrophages from inflamed gut acquire an anti-inflammatory/reparative profile. ANGPTL-4 is Associated with Obesity and Lipid Profile in Children and Adolescents

Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL-4) regulates lipidic metabolism and affects energy homeostasis. However, its function in children with obesity remains unknown. We investigated plasma ANGPTL-4 levels in children and its relationship with body mass index (BMI) and different lipidic parameters such as free fatty acids (FFA). Plasma ANGPTL-4 levels were analyzed in two different cohorts. In the first cohort (n = 150, age 3–17 years), which included children with normal weight or obesity, we performed a cross-sectional study. In the second cohort, which included only children with obesity (n = 20, age 5–18 years) followed up for two years after an intervention for weight loss, in which we performed a longitudinal study measuring ANGPTL-4 before and after BMI-loss. In the cross-sectional study, circulating ANGPTL-4 levels were lower in children with obesity than in those with normal weight. Moreover, ANGPTL-4 presented a negative correlation with BMI, waist circumference, weight, insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance index (HOMA index), triglycerides, and leptin, and a positive correlation with FFA and vitamin-D. In the longitudinal study, the percent change in plasma ANGPTL-4 was correlated with the percent change in FFA, total-cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Intentional replantation: case report

Intentional reimplantation is a procedure in which an intentional tooth extraction is performed followed by reinsertion of the extracted tooth. We present the case of a 50-year-old male patient who came to the consultation due to incrustation detachment in tooth #37, when performing the radiographic study an extensive apical lesion was observed in tooth #36 with a sinuous path and the presence of purulent exudate. The tooth #36 was extracted, apicoectomy, retro preparation and retrograde filling were carried out for later reimplantation, showing bone regeneration after one year of evolution
