Microstructure and sound absorption of snow

Sound absorption of snow was measured for test specimens with porosities in the range from 46% to approximately 90% in an impedance tube at frequencies between 125 Hz and 1.6 kHz. In addition, the geometrical structure of the same samples was determined by X-ray microtomography. This novel experimental combination is to provide a reliable basis for the development of quantitative correlations between sound absorption and structure. The homogeneity of the samples was assessed by image analysis. Using the 'simplified' relaxation model of Wilson the measured sound absorption could be satisfactorily reproduced. Two of the four parameters of the absorption model were obtained directly, i.e. without fitting, from geometric quantities (porosity and surface density), while the other two parameters were determined by adaptation to the absorption. The air permeability deduced from the model parameters compares well with known measured and calculated values

Alterações pulmonares cintilográficas e espirométricas em pacientes jovens portadores de esquistossomose mansônica tratados clínica e cirurgicamente na infância

OBJETIVOS: O presente estudo teve por objetivo analisar as alterações pulmonares de pacientes portadores de esquistossomose hepatoesplênica, tratados clínica e cirurgicamente, através da cintilografia pulmonar de perfusão e espirometria. MÉTODO: Trinta pacientes jovens portadores de esquistossomose mansônica hepatoesplênica, previamente tratados clínica e cirurgicamente, se submeteram a cintilografia pulmonar de perfusão e avaliação da capacidade respiratória pela espirometria. RESULTADOS: Ao exame cintilográfico, constataram-se alterações em 33,3% dos pacientes e padrão restritivo pulmonar em 30% das espirometrias. CONCLUSÕES: A prevalência do acometimento pulmonar, avaliado pela Medicina Nuclear, se situou abaixo do observado em pacientes não tratados, relatados na literatura. O padrão restritivo pulmonar, entretanto, avaliado pela espirometria, foi elevado e merece atenção especial no seguimento e manuseio desses pacientes

O artigo trata da instituição das capelas no território das Minas Gerais, considerando a sua significação política e a sua relação com o enquadramento social da população. Procura-se avaliar essa prática de poder, desde a fundação pelos patronos coloniais até o reconhecimento eclesiástico e régio. Observando-se os laços políticos na segunda metade do século XVIII, verifica-se ainda que as capelas, mecanismos de poder senhorial e de normalização dos súditos, tinham um papel fundamental na governamentalidade do Estado, especialmente nas fronteiras.<br>This paper is concerned with the establishment of chapels in Minas Gerais, taking into account its political meaning and its relationship with the social fitting of the population. Power practices are evaluated, since foundations of the chapels by colonial sponsors to their ecclesiastical and royal admissions. Considering political bonds on the second half of the eighteen century, one verifies that chapels - a way of power of owners and subject regulation - had a fundamental role in the government, mainly at frontiers
