    Inhibition effect of famotidine towards the corrosion of C-steel in sulphuric acid Solution

    The inhibition effect of  famotidine drug  towards  the corrosion of C-steel in 0.5M H2SO4 was studied using weight loss, gasometry, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) techniques, as well as, surface examination by SEM. The inhibition mechanism of FA is based on the adsorption process forming a film barrier layer protect the steel from acid attack. The adsorption is found to obey Frundlich model. The inhibition efficiency increased by increasing inhibitor concentration and decreased with temperature. Some thermodynamic parameters for adsorption process are deduced and discussed.     High resolution computed tomography and pulmonary function tests in childhood systemic lupus erythematosus and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

    Background: Alveolar and airway injury represent one of the most common features of rheumatological diseases and is believed to have a significant impact on the course of these diseases. Objective: This work aimed at evaluating airway and alveolar involvement in children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Methods: Thirty four children (21 with SLE and 13 with JRA) were assessed by pulmonary function tests (PFTs) namely spirometry and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity (DLCO) in comparison to 10 healthy controls, as well as by plain roentgenography and high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the chest. Results: The studied patients had significantly lower mean PFT values as compared to controls. A restrictive pattern of PFTs was more common as it was detected in 62% of patients with SLE and 23% of those with JRA whereas an obstructive pattern was detected in 14% and 8% respectively. Significantly lower FEF 25-75% values were detected in symptomatic patients. Low values of DLCO (less than 80% of predicted) were recorded in 60% of the studied patients. Chest HRCT was abnormal in 68% of studied patients. In SLE, ground glass appearance and pleural irregularity were the most common findings whereas in JRA, bronchial wall thickening, mosaic appearance and air trapping were prominent. Abnormal findings were detected in 5/9 of asymptomatic patients. Conclusion: airway and alveolar abnormalities are frequently encountered in children with SLE (95%) and JRA (85%) even if they are asymptomatic. HRCT and pulmonary function tests including diffusion studies are recommended as useful tools for the diagnosis and early detection of pulmonary involvement in these patients.Keywords: JRA, SLE, HRCT, PFTs, DLCOEgypt J Pediatr Allergy Immunol 2004; 2(1): 8-1

    Septazole : Antibacterial Drug as a Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Copper in Hydrochloric Acid Solutions,

    Abstract: The effect of an antibacterial Septazole on the corrosion of copper was studied in 0.1 M HCl at different concentrations using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Potentiodynamic polarization indicated that Septazole acted as mixed-type inhibitor. EIS measurements were also used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. Results obtained from EFM technique were in agreement with potentiodynamic and EIS techniques. The adsorption of Septazole on the surface of copper followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm at all concentrations and temperatures studied. The reactivity of Septazole was analyzed through quantum chemical calculations based on PM3 semi-empirical method to explain the efficiency of this inhibitor as corrosion inhibitors

    Hyperechogenic renal parenchyma in potential live related kidney donors: Does it justify exclusion?

    The aim of this work is to asses theimportance of ultrasonic grade I echogenicity inpotential kidney donors in the absence of urinaryabnormality and with perfect renal function.Thirty four living related kidney donors with thisabnormality were included, age range between 23-48years. Ten matched healthy donors were studied ascontrols.All cases were thoroughly investigated includingmeasuring GFR by isotopic scan and estimation ofrenal reserve by dopamine and aminoacid infusion.Renal biopsy was done for 17 cases of theechogenicity group and 8 controls. Our resultsshowed that the renal reserve was comparable in bothgroups. Glomerular changes were found in 41% ofapparently normal donors and only one case ofcontrols.Conclusion: Grade I echogenicity may be sign ofunrecognised kidney disease.     Brain Tumor Characterization Using Radiogenomics in Artificial Intelligence Framework

    Brain tumor characterization (BTC) is the process of knowing the underlying cause of brain tumors and their characteristics through various approaches such as tumor segmentation, classification, detection, and risk analysis. The substantial brain tumor characterization includes the identification of the molecular signature of various useful genomes whose alteration causes the brain tumor. The radiomics approach uses the radiological image for disease characterization by extracting quantitative radiomics features in the artificial intelligence (AI) environment. However, when considering a higher level of disease characteristics such as genetic information and mutation status, the combined study of “radiomics and genomics” has been considered under the umbrella of “radiogenomics”. Furthermore, AI in a radiogenomics’ environment offers benefits/advantages such as the finalized outcome of personalized treatment and individualized medicine. The proposed study summarizes the brain tumor’s characterization in the prospect of an emerging field of research, i.e., radiomics and radiogenomics in an AI environment, with the help of statistical observation and risk-of-bias (RoB) analysis. The PRISMA search approach was used to find 121 relevant studies for the proposed review using IEEE, Google Scholar, PubMed, MDPI, and Scopus. Our findings indicate that both radiomics and radiogenomics have been successfully applied aggressively to several oncology applications with numerous advantages. Furthermore, under the AI paradigm, both the conventional and deep radiomics features have made an impact on the favorable outcomes of the radiogenomics approach of BTC. Furthermore, risk-of-bias (RoB) analysis offers a better understanding of the architectures with stronger benefits of AI by providing the bias involved in them

    Vitamin D deficiency prevalence and predictors in early pregnancy among Arab women

    Data regarding the prevalence and predictors of vitamin D deficiency during early pregnancy are limited. This study aims to fill this gap. A total of 578 Saudi women in their 1st trimester of pregnancy were recruited between January 2014 and December 2015 from three tertiary care antenatal clinics in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Information collected includes socio-economic, anthropometric, and biochemical data, including serum vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels, intake of calcium and vitamin D, physical activity, and sun exposure indices. Pregnant women with 25(OH)D levels 3.5), low HDL-cholesterol, and living in West Riyadh were significant independent predictors for vitamin D deficiency, with odds ratios (ORs) (95% confidence interval) of 25.4 (5.5–117.3), 17.8 (2.3–138.5), 4.0 (1.7–9.5), 3.3 (1.4–7.9), 2.8 (1.2–6.4), and 2.0 (1.1–3.5), respectively. Factors like increased physical activity, sun exposure at noon, sunrise or sunset, high educational status, and residence in North Riyadh were protective against vitamin D deficiency with ORs 0.2 (0.1–0.5); 0.2 (0.1–0.6); 0.3 (0.1–0.9); and 0.4 (0.2–0.8), respectively. All ORs were adjusted for age, BMI, sun exposure, parity, summer season, vitamin D intake, multivitamin intake, physical activity, education, employment, living in the north, and coverage with clothing. In conclusion, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among Saudi women during early pregnancy was high (81%). Timely detection and appropriate supplementation with adequate amounts of vitamin D should reduce the risks of vitamin D deficiency and its complications during pregnancy
