No entanto, a necessidade
ocupado as agendas investigativas.
The role of the Portuguese as Heritage Language (PHL) in migratory contexts has
not been the main object of research agendas. Existing studies do not focus on
the nature of the PL, nor deal with the way these collide or are consistent with the
representations of community members, teachers and Portuguese descendents
that circulate inside them. In this paper, we address the teaching and learning
process of the PL in the French associative context, i.e. we focus on the transmission
of a history and a language over three generations of Lusodescendents, having as
reference a – real or imaginary – original territory. In particular, we aim at showing
how the PL, while in contact with another language, evolves in a more or less (un)
balanced way, creating a hybrid linguistic system which the teaching and learning
process in a wider context tries to fulfill.
The relationships between the langagière practices and the identity processes of
the teenagers from the Parisian region were analyzed by looking into the dialectics
between the Self and the Other with the main purpose of exploring the way the
Portuguese descendents experience the linguistic representations of (de)valuation
that the Other conceives and sends them.
renvoient
Social Representations: student´s voices about Portuguese as a school subject and its learning
This article aims to disclose some conclusions of a project developed within the teaching of Portuguese. It contributes to the clarification of the following research questions: how these students assess their command of acquired skills in Portuguese language; what are their representations of the Portuguese language as a school subject; what relationships do they establish with this subject and the strategies they apply in learning it (bearing in mind their personal, academic and professional expectations). For this purpose, the present qualitative oriented case study was carried out in 2014-2015. Through the use of a questionnaire survey and written assignments the word was given to a class of students, aged 15 to 18, of a school in the Aveiro district attending a scientifichumanistic course - branches of science and technology and languages and humanities The data analysis shows that the respondents relate to Portuguese as a school subject in a pragmatic perspective, which ultimately conditions the way they deal with their learning. The students’ relationship with the esthetical and literary aspects of the Portuguese language as well as the purpose of this subject to promote the access to cultural enrichment are therefore seriously compromised. These results are fruitful as they contribute to the understanding of the way in which these representations of the students influence their learning, thus constituting key indicators for the pedagogic and the didactic action of the Portuguese teacher.
contexto alargado, procura preencher.
ensino-aprendizagem; o perfil linguĂstico do lusodescendente e a construção
complexidade. No âmbito desta investigação mista (qualitativa e quantitativa), levada a cabo,
muros.
The role of the Portuguese language (PL) in migratory contexts has not been
the main object of research agendas; existing studies do not focus the nature of
the PL or event the way these collide or are consistent with the representations
of community members, teachers and Portuguese descendents that circulate
inside the associations.
In this study, we address the teaching and learning process of the PL in the
French associative context (Parisian region), more specifically, we focus on the
transmission of a history and a language over three generations of Portuguese
descendents, having as reference a – real or imaginary – original territory. In
particular, we aim at showing how the PL, while in contact with another
language, evolves in a more or less (un)balanced way, creating a hybrid
linguistic system which the teaching and learning process in a wider context
tries to fulfil.
The relationships between the langagière practices and the identitary
processes of the teenagers from the Parisian region were analysed by looking
into the dialectics between the Self and the Other with the main purpose of
exploring the way the Portuguese descendents experience the linguistic
representations of (de)valuation that the Other conceives and sends them.
The two poles of identitary reference – the country of origin of the family and
France – seem to attract and repulse reach other. Besides that, from the
analysis of the abovementioned langagière practices, we notice a constant
identitary and linguistic bricolage, which accommodates to an experience
sometimes hard to assume.
We have identified the different factors: the status of the PL in associative
context and its ideological dimensions; the objectives of the teaching and
learning of the PL; the linguistic profile of the Portuguese descendent and the
development of the professional knowledge of the teachers who work at the
associations, which lays the foundations and substantiates their practices, and
which configurates a process of highly complexity.
Within the scope of this mix research (qualitative and quantitative), developed
since 2003, it is our aim to evince research productivity on this topic, in the
sense of problematizing the awareness of the teaching and learning of the PL.
As main conclusions, we highlight the unquestionable role of the associations
in the development of the comprehension and communicative competences in
the PL, which need, however, both acknowledgment and financial support.
These are subject of several controversies, accused of causing the closing of Portuguese classes in the French education system and categorised of
exclusion and isolation.
This teaching and learning process aims at valuing the sharing of a
sociocultural context which allows the Portuguese descendents to interact and
communicate, as well as a certain promotion of the Portuguese cultural identity
beyond walls. The associations work on Portuguese descendents’ motivation,
so that these do not neglect either the language or culture.
We finish by trying to provide a contribution for the teaching of the PL, in
relation to the valuation and promotion of its teaching and learning in the
Communities.FCT; FSE ; POC
This article presents a first set of results of a broader research carried out in Portuguese schools and whose objectives are on the one hand to understand the form as the teachers interviewed, teaching in schools in central Portugal, facilitate or not the establishment of teaching-learning strategies that value and recognize the linguistic and cultural diversity of students of linguistic and cultural minorities, and on the other hand whether they mobilize heritage languages and cultures (HLC) in their planning, activities and discourses in the classroom.publishe
Heritage languages of young people from linguistic and cultural minorities in Portuguese schools: monolingual temptation versus multilingual realities
The main purpose of this poster is to present a case study aimed at researching the multilingual repertoires of young people from a linguistic and cultural minority. Further, it analyzes the role of and the place given to heritage languages (HL) in the
development of a multilingual and intercultural competence in schools. In the scope of this study, a survey was conducted using two online questionnaires distributed to students from a migrant background and teachers. These students and teachers attended two primary and secondary schools in the central region of Portugal during the academic year 2013–2014. The results show that the students value their HL and perceive them as an instrument of social interaction as well as identity construction and affirmation. Additionally, the results show that both school and teachers recognize and respect the students’ linguistic and cultural capital as well as their composite and plural identities. However, they do not take advantage of this in the classroom by not promoting activities that enrich their students’ cultural and linguistic culture. In this context, the possibilities for an education in/with HL, as a pedagogical and
didactic project, are not yet present in the school curriculum and habitus, on the one hand, because there are no educational language policies that incorporate it, and on the
other hand, because both school and teachers do not seem to value the role and usefulness of HL in the promotion of an intercultural and multilingual education
