Integrating 2D materials into high-quality optical microcavities opens the door to fascinating many-particle phenomena including the formation of exciton-polaritons. These are hybrid quasi-particles inheriting properties of both the constituent photons and excitons. The corresponding change in the dispersion relation has a large impact on the optics, dynamics and transport behaviour of the materials. In this thesis, we aim to microscopically understand the optical response and propagation of exciton-polaritons in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). The theoretical method is based on the density matrix formalism combined with the Hopfield approach. In particular, we investigate how the diffusion of exciton changes in the strong coupling regime, i.e. when exciton-polaritons are formed. Furthermore, we study the impact of dark excitons on the optical response of upper and lower polariton branches in absorption spectra of molybdenum- and tungsten-based TMDs, which are known to be direct and indirect semiconductors, respectively. Furthermore, we show how different experimentally accessible quantities, such as temperature or mirror reflectance, can be exploited to tune the optical response of polaritons. Our study contributes to an improved microscopic understanding of exciton-polaritons and their interaction with phonons, potentially suggesting experiments that could determine the energy of dark exciton states via momentum-resolved polariton absorption

Social Media platforms have a great influence in the Tourism industry, enabling tourists to share their experiences and search for information about destinations they want to visit. Currently, Instagram is one of the most powerful Social Media platforms and London is the third most visited city in the world in 2019. To complement the investigation made on this topic, the main objective of this dissertation is to investigate if Instagram influences Millennials to visit London city. In order to study the developed hypotheses, using as the main method a quantitative approach, it was used a questionnaire, developed through the Conceptual Framework and adapted from the previous investigation. The questionnaire was collected via online – mainly through social media platforms – aiming to collect the answer from Millennials that use Instagram. After conducting a statistical analysis on IBM SPSS Statistics 25, using as the main test the Linear Regression to verify the defined hypotheses, the findings support that: (i) Functionality and Benefit of using Instagram as a main source of information positively influences Millennials intention to visit a certain destination; (ii) Trustworthiness of Instagram does not influence Millennials intention to visit a certain destination; (iii) Functionality and Trustworthiness of Instagram positively impact Millennials to visit London city; (iv) Instagram Benefit is not a decisive factor that leads Millennials to visit London city.

The purpose of this dissertation is to emphasise the articulation of three important themes that define our present and will define our future - Arts & Humanities, (STEAM) education, and Robotics. It hopes to facilitate the preparation of future generations for the 21st century society and economy, as well as to aid in the problem-solving of key world issues, and minimise the challenges posed by the relationship between men and complex technology. The main goal is to understand the ideal way of including the 'A' in STEAM (K-12) education with Robotics, by also figuring out how European schools are implementing STEAM (with or without Robotics) and what experts and practitioners in these areas have to say on these matters. In order to achieve such results, besides the robust literature review, sixteen experts were inquired, ten were part of the same panel on the Delphi Method questionnaire process, and the other six were interviewed according to the Critical Incident Technique. Due to the relevance of the study's themes, this will be useful and resourceful for both fellow researchers and practitioners in these three areas. As we go further into this evermore technological future for which we do not seem to be prepared for, the main problem is the dissonance between disciplines and the lack of their content's real-life applicability. STEAM and transdisciplinary knowledge have been gaining traction throughout the last years and have been proving themselves as suitable and successful educational techniques. The articulation between the Arts with the areas from STEM have proven to produce remarkable results. All areas must, while making sense, work together in order to provide students with the right tools, knowledge, and education to be successful not only in the global economy and job market of the 21st century, but in life too

This dissertation describes a plan to create a dynamic around traditional points of sale, or street shops, which, in some locations, are going through difficulties. A Multi-Vendor Loyalty program was designed taking into consideration the region of Cascais (Portugal). Nevertheless, such program can be replicated to other locations. Customers earn points from every transaction made within the participant partner stores and accumulate them in a single account. Those points are redeemed for prizes on a third-party ran online platform. Partner stores gain from the effects of customer loyalty in a network organized scheme. There are already loyalty programs that function in partnership of a portfolio of brands, but, at the level of urban retail I haven’t found any. Hence, this is an innovative solution that intends to counter the trend of increasing amounts of time and money spent in modern retail formats. Customer and retailer interviews, meetings and benchmarking were used in this study. The customer survey results show the trend for shopping at modern retail formats. The majority claims to be willing to consider using traditional retail more often if there were a loyalty coalition. The retailer survey shows that loyal customers are important for the business, which is positive because loyalty should be built upon an existing customer base. The majority says they would be willing to consider becoming partners of a Multi-Vendor Loyalty Program. This paper comprises an extensive literature review, mainly about loyalty programs, followed by the presentation of results, upon which the MVLP was designed.
