The Changing Role of Nuclear Power in the European Union: Reflections from Official Scenarios Released before and after the Fukushima Daiichi Accident
Nuclear energy plays an important role in the global and European energy sectors. The nuclear disaster of Fukushima Daiichi has amplified the debate on the potential future roles of nuclear energy in the EU and has had impacts on the European Member States’ energy policies; however, the reactions of the member states were vary. Concerns about common legislation, waste management, safety and risk management have also strengthened. Initiatives were taken at national, regional and international levels. The goal of this study is to highlight the main advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy utilisation in the light of the official forecasts released before and after the Japanese accident
A vertikálisan integrált vállalatok stratégiai lehetőségei az európai unió liberalizált villamosenergia-piacain
Az Európai Unió villamosenergia-piacait érő szabályozási változások és szerkezeti átalakulások új szereplői
csoportokat hĂvtak Ă©letre, Ă©s megbolygatták a korábbi ágazati erĹ‘viszonyokat. MĂg a monopol piaci körĂĽlmĂ©nyek
követhetnek a domináns piaci rĂ©szesedĂ©ssel bĂrĂł vállalatok
Key Trends and Application of Sustainability Rating Systems in the Hungarian Office Building Segment
Enhancing the sustainability of buildings and construction activities has become a key issue over the last decades. Since in the European Union, the construction industry is responsible for about the 40% of the total final energy consumption, around 36% of total CO2-emission, and 32% of total waste generation it is not surprising, that the ambitious energy and climate protection goals of the EU pose enormous challenges to the sector. Although in the relevant literature there is a lack of common understanding of what sustainable and green buildings are, several quantitative and qualitative methods regarding the assessment of buildings’ sustainability, and approaches suitable for the examination of economic, social and environmental effects of buildings and the built environment have been emerged. The goal of this paper is to highlight the main principles and characters of green and sustainable buildings found in the literature, to summarize the key characteristics of the most important voluntary certification schemes applied in the European Union, and to present the current trends in the Hungarian Office market segment regarding the use of green certifications
Business students' evaluation of energy sources
Understanding the students’ opinions about energy sources allows exploring the factors of acceptance. It can contribute to supporting the changes in energy production and utilization. Focus on business students must have an emphasis since they may be the company decisionmakers in the future. The study analysis the return, availability, environmentally friendly nature, knowledge requirement of the application, and future role of some renewable energy sources and nuclear power. The sample consists of 150 randomly selected students. The results show the dominance of solar energy and the marginalization of biomass energy. The students’ opinions differ from the professional approach on the energy sources that raise educational challenges
A fenntartható fejlődés elvei és azok érvényre jutása a banki gyakorlatban II. rész (The principles of sustainable development and their realization in the banking practice II. part)
Az utóbbi évtizedben a környezettudatos gazdálkodás szerepének felértékelődése új tevékenységi területet
nyitott meg a bankok előtt, amit nemzetközi szóhasználattal élve green banking-nek neveznek. A fenntartható
fejlĹ‘dĂ©st támogatĂł projektek banki finanszĂrozása számos lehetĹ‘sĂ©get nyit a pĂ©nzĂĽgyi intĂ©zmĂ©nyek
számára – hĂrnĂ©v, Ăşj ĂĽgyfĂ©lbázis, kockázatcsökkentĂ©s, jövedelmezĹ‘sĂ©g növelĂ©se –, amennyiben a bankok a
fenntarthatóság elveit megfelelően integrálják működési stratégiájukba. A cikksorozat második részében
a szerzők a bankok fenntartható működését támogató külső és belső motiváló tényezőit veszik vizsgálat
alá, amelyet már nemzetközi elvek és megállapodások is szabályoznak és támogatnak. Kiemelt fontosságot
tulajdonĂtanak a környezettudatos gazdálkodás banki stratĂ©giába törtĂ©nĹ‘ integrálásának, melynek alapjait
teremthetik meg a cikkben vizsgált nemzetközi irányelvek. ________ In the last decade, a lot of publications came to light, dealing with the social and environmental responsibility of financial institutions. Banks are expected to improve their competitive advantage by demonstrating economic development, while promoting environment care and social responsibility. This sustainable finance means to manage environmental and social risks in corporate lending and project financing. Green financial institutions have developed a wide range of innovations that can support sustainable development. This
article highlights a few external and internal factor that
support this aim, and which are regulated by international
principles. However the authors’ survey shows
that in the relevant literature there are a lot of ways to
define sustainability and its achievement. They suggest
that all of them can be interpreted associated with green
banking operation. The goal of this paper is to identify
the role of financial institutions in achieving sustainable
development, and stress its strategic importance.
The authors also attempt to show, why and how can this
sector become the promoter of sustainability
Public governance students' opinion about the role of the government in environmental responsibility
Solving environmental problems goes beyond the scope of natural and engineering sciences. Social issues must be considered since people are the ultimate beneficiaries or sufferers of the related decisions. Due to the complexity of the problems and the required toolset of the solution, social aspects cover several questions. The role of the government is remarkable in financial, policy-making, and other aspects. The study deals with the individual judgment on the role of the government. The scope is limited to Hungarian higher education students as a pilot study. The results show competing patterns that can contribute to a better understanding of personal opinions
Innovációk a fenntarthatóság szolgálatában. A biomassza mint fenntartható rendszerinnováció
Napjainkat a termĂ©szeti erĹ‘forrásokat felĂ©lĹ‘ gazdálkodás jellemzi. A nyersanyag- Ă©s energiakĂ©szletek korlátozottsága, a termelĂ©s mellĂ©ktermĂ©kekĂ©nt környezetbe kerĂĽlt anyagok mennyisĂ©ge Ă©s káros hatásai mára olyan problĂ©mává nĹ‘ttek, melyek nem igĂ©nyelnek bizonyĂtást. ĂŤgy feladatunk tartalma is megváltozott. JövĹ‘nk szempontjábĂłl elkerĂĽlhetetlen az ember-környezet viszony tisztázása, illetve azon „környezetkĂmĂ©lĹ‘" lehetĹ‘sĂ©gek felkutatása, melyek segĂthetnek a fenntarthatĂł fejlĹ‘dĂ©s Ă©rdekeit szolgálĂł Ăşj Ă©let- Ă©s gondolkodásmĂłd kialakĂtásában. Jelen publikáciĂł bepillantást enged az innováciĂłnak a környezettudatos gazdálkodás, illetve a fenntarthatĂł fejlĹ‘dĂ©s elĂ©rĂ©sĂ©ben játszott szerepĂ©be. CĂ©lja továbbá a környezeti Ă©s a fenntarthatĂł innováciĂłk azonosĂtása, a biomassza besorolása
