    Correlation effects in a one-dimensional electron gas with short-range interaction

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.We study the correlation effects in a one-dimensional electron gas with repulsive delta-function interaction. The correlation effects are described by a local-held correction which takes into account the short-range correlations. We find that the ground state energy is in good agreement with the exact result up to intermediate coupling strengths, showing an improvement over the STLS approximation. The compressibility, the static structure factor and the pair-correlation function are also calculated within the present approximation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

This paper applies a novel computational analysis on the pronunciation variances in sung utterances and further proposes a new pronunciation model adapted for singing. The singing-adapted model is tested on multiple public datasets via word recognition experiments. It performs better than the standard speech dictionary in all settings reporting the best results on ALT in a capella recordings using n-gram language models. For reproducibility, we share the sentencelevel annotations used in testing, providing a new benchmark evaluation set for ALT

    The relationship between serum bilirubin level with interleukin.6, interleukin.10 and mortality scores in patients with sepsis

    Context: Bilirubin has been shown to influence the mechanisms of both apoptosis and inflammation.Aims: The aim of the following study is to investigate the relationship between the serum bilirubin level with sepsis progression.Settings and Design: A total of 20 patients from intensive care unit were included for this study.Materials and Methods: Patients were divided into two groups: Patients diagnosed with sepsis according to the American College of Chest  Physicians/Society of Clinical Care Medicine consensus conference criteria (n = 10) and patients treated for various other diagnoses (n = 10). Blood samples were collected for both groups at the time of origin (defined as the time of diagnosis) and 24 and 48 h after diagnosis. Serum interleukin (IL).6, IL.10 and bilirubin levels were analyzed and compared. Acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II and sepsis related organ failure (SOFA) scores of the patients were also evaluated. Statistical Analysis Used: We used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS for Windows, version 17.0, SPSS Inc. 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago) for statistical analysis.Results: At all.time intervals, serum IL.6, IL.10 and total, direct and  indirect serum bilirubin levels were significantly higher in the sepsis group (P < 0.05); APACHE II and SOFA scores were also significantly higher. Both SOFA scores and serum IL.10 levels were positively correlated with bilirubin levels 24 h after diagnosis (P < 0.05, r = .0.76).Conclusions: Although levels of bilirubin and other associated parameters were higher for the sepsis group, only SOFA score and bilirubin levels were correlated.     MOCVD growth and optical properties of non-polar (11-20) a-plane GaN on (10-12) r-plane sapphire substrate

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Non-polar a-plane GaN film with crystalline quality and anisotropy improvement is grown by use of high temperature AlN/AlGaN buffer, which is directly deposited on r-plane sapphire by pulse flows. Compared to the a-plane GaN grown on AIN buffer, X-ray rocking curve analysis reveals a remarkable reduction in the full width at half maximum, both on-axis and off-axis. Atomic force microscopy image exhibits a fully coalesced pit-free surface morphology with low root-mean-square roughness (similar to 1.5 nm). Photoluminescence is carried out on the a-plane GaN grown on r-plane sapphire. It is found that, at low temperature, the dominant emission at similar to 3.42 eV is composed of two separate peaks with different characteristics, which provide explanations for the controversial attributions of this peak in previous studies.     Technik, diffusionsgewichtete MRT und Komplikationen bei Stentimplantation der Arteria carotis unter zerebraler Protektion

    Das Ziel dieser Arbeit war die Untesuchung der technischen Durchführbarkeit und Sicherheit der Karotisstentimplantation unter Einsatz von zerebralen Protektionssystemen. Es wurden 123 ACI-Stenosen mit einer Stent-PTA behandelt, wobei in 45,5% der Fälle die Stenose symptomatisch war. Zur zerebralen Protektion wurden unterschiedliche Protektionssysteme verwendet. Mit 85 Prozeduren war der Filter Wire EX das am häufigsten benutzte System. Zum Nachweis von Ischämien wurde eine diffusionsgew. MRT vor und nach dem Eingriff durchgeführt. Im Zeitraum von 30 Tagen lag die Morbiditäts- und Mortalitätsrate bei 6,5%, für die Patienten, die mit dem Filter Wire EX behandelt wurden, bei 4,7%. Postinterventionell zeigte die diffusionsgew. MRT in 33 Fällen (30,3%) neu aufgetretene Läsionen der ipsilat. Hemisphäre. Die Stent-PTA der ACI unter Protektion ist sicher durchführbar. Als Marker für neurologische Komplikationen ist die diffusionsgew. MRT gut geeignet

    Evolution of the mosaic structure in InGaN layer grown on a thick GaN template and sapphire substrate

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.The InxGa1-xN epitaxial layers, with indium (x) concentration changes between 0.16 and 1.00 (InN), were grown on GaN template/(0001) Al2O3 substrate by metal organic chemical vapour deposition. The indium content (x), lattice parameters and strain values in the InGaN layers were calculated from the reciprocal lattice mapping around symmetric (0002) and asymmetric (10-15) reflection of the GaN and InGaN layers. The characteristics of mosaic structures, such as lateral and vertical coherence lengths, tilt and twist angle and heterogeneous strain and dislocation densities (edge and screw dislocations) of the InGaN epilayers and GaN template layers were investigated by using high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD) measurements. With a combination of Williamson-Hall (W-H) measurements and the fitting of twist angles, it was found that the indium content in the InGaN epilayers did not strongly effect the mosaic structures' parameters, lateral and vertical coherence lengths, tilt and twist angle, or heterogeneous strain of the InGaN epilayers

    Automatic chord-scale recognition using harmonic pitch class profiles

This study focuses on the application of different computational methods to carry out a”modal harmonic analysis” for Jazz improvisation performances by modeling the concept of chord-scales. The Chord-Scale Theory is a theoretical concept that explains the relationship between the harmonic context of a musical piece and possible scale types to be used for improvisation. This work proposes different computational approaches for the recognition of the chord-scale type in an improvised phrase given the harmonic context. We have curated a dataset to evaluate different chord-scale recognition approaches proposed in this study, where the dataset consists of around 40 minutes of improvised monophonic Jazz solo performances. The dataset is made publicly available and shared on freesound.org. To achieve the task of chord-scale type recognition, we propose one rule-based, one probabilistic and one supervised learning method. All proposed methods use Harmonic Pitch Class Profile (HPCP) features for classification. We observed an increase in the classification score when learned chord-scale models are filtered with predefined scale templates indicating that incorporating prior domain knowledge to learned models is beneficial. This study has its novelty in presenting a first computational analysis on chord-scales in the context of Jazz improvisation
