    Correlation effects in a one-dimensional electron gas with short-range interaction

The correlation effects are described by a local-held correction which takes into account the short-range correlations. We find that the ground state energy is in good agreement with the exact result up to intermediate coupling strengths, showing an improvement over the STLS approximation. The compressibility, the static structure factor and the pair-correlation function are also calculated within the present approximation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

    MSTRE-Net: Multistreaming Acoustic Modeling for Automatic Lyrics Transcription

    This paper makes several contributions to automatic lyrics transcription (ALT) research. Our main contribution is a novel variant of the Multistreaming Time-Delay Neural Network (MTDNN) architecture, called MSTRE-Net, which processes the temporal information using multiple streams in parallel with varying resolutions keeping the network more compact, and thus with a faster inference and an improved recognition rate than having identical TDNN streams. In addition, two novel preprocessing steps prior to training the acoustic model are proposed. First, we suggest using recordings from both monophonic and polyphonic domains during training the acoustic model. Second, we tag monophonic and polyphonic recordings with distinct labels for discriminating non-vocal silence and music instances during alignment. Moreover, we present a new test set with a considerably larger size and a higher musical variability compared to the existing datasets used in ALT literature, while maintaining the gender balance of the singers. Our best performing model sets the state-of-the-art in lyrics transcription by a large margin. For reproducibility, we publicly share the identifiers to retrieve the data used in this paper

    The relationship between serum bilirubin level with interleukin.6, interleukin.10 and mortality scores in patients with sepsis

    Context: Bilirubin has been shown to influence the mechanisms of both apoptosis and inflammation.Aims: The aim of the following study is to investigate the relationship between the serum bilirubin level with sepsis progression.Settings and Design: A total of 20 patients from intensive care unit were included for this study.Materials and Methods: Patients were divided into two groups: Patients diagnosed with sepsis according to the American College of Chest  Physicians/Society of Clinical Care Medicine consensus conference criteria (n = 10) and patients treated for various other diagnoses (n = 10). Blood samples were collected for both groups at the time of origin (defined as the time of diagnosis) and 24 and 48 h after diagnosis. Serum interleukin (IL).6, IL.10 and bilirubin levels were analyzed and compared. Acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II and sepsis related organ failure (SOFA) scores of the patients were also evaluated. Statistical Analysis Used: We used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS for Windows, version 17.0, SPSS Inc. 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago) for statistical analysis.Results: At all.time intervals, serum IL.6, IL.10 and total, direct and  indirect serum bilirubin levels were significantly higher in the sepsis group (P < 0.05); APACHE II and SOFA scores were also significantly higher. Both SOFA scores and serum IL.10 levels were positively correlated with bilirubin levels 24 h after diagnosis (P < 0.05, r = .0.76).Conclusions: Although levels of bilirubin and other associated parameters were higher for the sepsis group, only SOFA score and bilirubin levels were correlated.     Endogenous Transport Prices and Trade Imbalances

    According to economic theory, imbalances in trade flows affect transport prices because (some) carriers have to return without cargo from the low demand region to the high demand region. Therefore, transport prices in the high demand direction have to exceed those in the low demand direction. This implies that transport costs, and therefore trade costs, are fundamentally endogenous with respect to trade imbalances. We study this effect using transport prices for the inland waterway transport market in north-west Europe. We find that imbalances in trade flows have substantial effects on transport prices. We estimate that a one standard deviation increase in the trade imbalance from region A to region B decreases transport prices from A to B by about 8 percent

    Das Ziel dieser Arbeit war die Untesuchung der technischen Durchführbarkeit und Sicherheit der Karotisstentimplantation unter Einsatz von zerebralen Protektionssystemen. Es wurden 123 ACI-Stenosen mit einer Stent-PTA behandelt, wobei in 45,5% der Fälle die Stenose symptomatisch war. Zur zerebralen Protektion wurden unterschiedliche Protektionssysteme verwendet. Mit 85 Prozeduren war der Filter Wire EX das am häufigsten benutzte System. Zum Nachweis von Ischämien wurde eine diffusionsgew. MRT vor und nach dem Eingriff durchgeführt. Im Zeitraum von 30 Tagen lag die Morbiditäts- und Mortalitätsrate bei 6,5%, für die Patienten, die mit dem Filter Wire EX behandelt wurden, bei 4,7%. Postinterventionell zeigte die diffusionsgew. MRT in 33 Fällen (30,3%) neu aufgetretene Läsionen der ipsilat. Hemisphäre. Die Stent-PTA der ACI unter Protektion ist sicher durchführbar. Als Marker für neurologische Komplikationen ist die diffusionsgew. MRT gut geeignet

    MOCVD growth and optical properties of non-polar (11-20) a-plane GaN on (10-12) r-plane sapphire substrate

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Non-polar a-plane GaN film with crystalline quality and anisotropy improvement is grown by use of high temperature AlN/AlGaN buffer, which is directly deposited on r-plane sapphire by pulse flows. Compared to the a-plane GaN grown on AIN buffer, X-ray rocking curve analysis reveals a remarkable reduction in the full width at half maximum, both on-axis and off-axis. Atomic force microscopy image exhibits a fully coalesced pit-free surface morphology with low root-mean-square roughness (similar to 1.5 nm). Photoluminescence is carried out on the a-plane GaN grown on r-plane sapphire. It is found that, at low temperature, the dominant emission at similar to 3.42 eV is composed of two separate peaks with different characteristics, which provide explanations for the controversial attributions of this peak in previous studies.     Evolution of the mosaic structure in InGaN layer grown on a thick GaN template and sapphire substrate

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.The InxGa1-xN epitaxial layers, with indium (x) concentration changes between 0.16 and 1.00 (InN), were grown on GaN template/(0001) Al2O3 substrate by metal organic chemical vapour deposition. The indium content (x), lattice parameters and strain values in the InGaN layers were calculated from the reciprocal lattice mapping around symmetric (0002) and asymmetric (10-15) reflection of the GaN and InGaN layers. The characteristics of mosaic structures, such as lateral and vertical coherence lengths, tilt and twist angle and heterogeneous strain and dislocation densities (edge and screw dislocations) of the InGaN epilayers and GaN template layers were investigated by using high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD) measurements. With a combination of Williamson-Hall (W-H) measurements and the fitting of twist angles, it was found that the indium content in the InGaN epilayers did not strongly effect the mosaic structures' parameters, lateral and vertical coherence lengths, tilt and twist angle, or heterogeneous strain of the InGaN epilayers
