A Queuing model for Dealing with Patients with Severe Disease
This paper suggests a proposed single server queueing model for severe diseases especially in Out-patient Department. The Outpatient Department of a hospital is visited by patients of all types ofdisease. Some of these diseases require immediate medical attention as severe complications may ariseif treatment is delayed. The goal of the study was to develop a queueing model considering patientswith severe disease and to study the improvement in the service time using the model. The singleserver queueing model was modied and analyzed. The eciency of the model was tested by usingoutpatient medical service, arrivals and departure of patients over a period of one year of a localhospital in Guwahati. The result indicated the average outpatient medical service response times forservice improve over the general model
Proizvodnja kruha s dodatkom sjemenki komorača
Fennel seeds are a source of many nutrients, i.e. sugars, minerals, essential fatty acids, vital vitamins, protein and fibre. They are also rich in essential oil and many flavonoids. The sweet-flavoured fennel seeds are very popular worldwide and are extensively used in culinary and therapeutic fields. Bread fortified with fennel seed powder is thus likely to have higher consumer acceptability than white or other fortified bread. In this study, bread samples were prepared by supplementing white flour with fennel seed powder at the levels of 3.0, 5.0, 7.0, 10.0 and 15.0 % and their physical, sensory, antioxidant and staling characteristics were determined. Crumb moisture increased and reached the maximum at 7.0 % level of supplementation with gradual increase in crumb firmness. An attempt has been made to understand the role of fennel seed powder in the bread samples during storage. Antioxidant activity (i.e. total phenolic content, ferric reducing antioxidant power and 2,2- -diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging) showed an increase up to 7.0 % level of supplementation. Bread with fennel seed content between 5.0 and 7.0 % showed the highest acceptability among the fortified bread samples.
BGREI Impact on Productivity & Income from Rice: Western Vs. Northern Odisha
The article provides a comparison of the impact of the BGREI on rice productivity and income in the western and northern portions of Odisha in 2016–17. After consulting with scientists of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, 2 districts Mayurbhanj and Bargarh were selected as the research location. Two blocks from each district, 4 villages from each block were taken into consideration purposively and 10 farmers were selected randomly. Two pre-tested questionnaires were administered separately to the randomly selected beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries to collect the required data. After analysis of the data, it was observed that there is an increase of 8.83 quintals/acre (61.92%) in the productivity of Kharif rice in western Odisha, whereas in northern Odisha it is 6.1 quintals/acre (60.10%). Likewise, in case of Income from Kharif rice, there is an increment of Rs.12980/acre in western Odisha, whereas in northern Odisha it is Rs.8967/acre. After a critical statistical study, it was also clarified that there is no such major difference in the impact of BGREI on the income of rice farmers and productivity of rice, based on the location (i.e. between western Odisha and northern Odisha). It can be said that there is no such biasness in the BGREI scheme implemented areas of Odisha
A floristic study on herbs and climbing plants at Puducherry, South India: an approach to biodiversity conservation and regeneration through eco-restoration
A qualitative floristic exploration with life form classifications and monitoring of flowering and fruiting phenology has been carried out at a restored site near Puducherry, South India in 2009 and 2010. The species were classified into three categories based on their occurrence status, namely, Naturally Occurring, Naturally Regenerated and Introduced. The present study focuses only on two life forms, the Herbaceous and the Climbing plants. The site selected for eco-restoration originally comprised of an eroded and severely degraded landscape with scattered remnant species. However, active human intervention over a thirty year period included the introduction of appropriate plant species and other physical measures to enhance soil fertility and ground water level, and regenerate and conserve the deteriorating typical Tropical dry evergreen forest (TDEF) vegetation. A large number of naturally ccurring herbaceous, climbing species (172) and a consistent number of naturally regenerated species (44) are now observed as a result of eco-restoration. Lowland herbaceous species have also established themselves as a green cover at ground level. At present, parts of the area have fertile soils and rich floristic composition with the herbaceous life form represented by 165 species encompassed in 105 genera and 37 families, and the climbing plants represented by 68 species belonging to 54 genera and 25 families. ‘Genus to family’ and ‘species to genus’ ratios indicate the establishment of diverse vegetation in the study site. Nearly one third of the species have been observed flowering throughout the year and about half of the species were observed fruiting throughout the year. We emphasize that the two fold approach of land and vegetation reclamation has been very effective in helping restore the unique TDEF vegetation at the local level and the same may be extended to help regenerate and conserve the Coromandel Coastal vegetation at the regional scale
Seasonal dynamics of stomach contents, trophic level, length-weight relationship and condition factor of Mystus bleekeri (Day, 1877)
The Asian catfish Mystus bleekeri is a popular food fish along with favored as an ornamental fish in Bangladesh.
Till now detailed report on stomach contents, trophic level, length-weight relationship and condition factor of this fish
species in the agro-climatic context of Bangladesh is lacking. Hence, the aims of this study were to describe the stomach
content, trophic level, length-weight relationship (LWR) and condition factors of Mystus bleekeri collected from Dekhar
Haor, Sylhet, Bangladesh from July 2017 to June 2018. A total of 600 specimens ranging from 6.9-24.6 cm total length
(TL) and 5.7-72.4 g body weight (BW) was analyzed in this study. Stomach content analysis showed that the fish fed
mostly on Mollusca with a frequency of occurrence (fo
: 25.36%) and worms (fo
: 21.68%), followed by plant matters (fo
:
3.32%), Cladocerana (fo
: 1.18%), Copepoda (fo
: 0.95%), and Teleostei (fo
: 0.36%). The estimated mean trophic level
(TROPH) ranged from 2.35±0.13 in December to 3.02±0.23 in August, indicating that they are opportunistic feeder.
The LWR analysis showed negative allometric growth (b<3) throughout the year. The values of the exponent b in the
LWR (W=aLb
) vary between 1.474 and 2.490. The mean K value was significantly higher in October indicating the
heavier weight and better condition of the fish (P<0.05). The data obtained from this study would be useful to introduce
sustainable management of Mystus bleekeri not only in Dekhar Haor but also in other inland waters of Bangladesh
