A proposed adjustable RF cable connector

    Get PDF
In system that requires negligible loss, it may be necessary to adjust cable length to exact multiple of transmitted wavelength. Adjustable cable connector saves time and cost by eliminating need to add to or cut from cable. Device was especially designed for use with high frequencies. For particular application, connector of suitable dimensions should be used

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Child Safety Seats and Seat Belts in Protecting Children from Injury

    Get PDF
Young children are required to use child safety seats, and the age threshold at which children can legally graduate to seat belts has steadily increased. This paper tests the relative effectiveness of child safety seats, lap-and-shoulder seat belts, and lap belts in preventing injuries among motor vehicle passengers aged 2-6. We analyze three large, representative samples of crashes reported to police, as well as linked hospital data. We find no apparent difference in the two most serious injury categories for children in child safety seats versus lap-and-shoulder belts. Child safety seats provide a statistically significant 25% reduction in the least serious injury category. Lap belts are somewhat less effective than the two other types of restraints, but far superior to riding unrestrained.

Hypervelocity scramjet combustor-nozzle analysis and design

The progress report for the grant entitled 'Hypervelocity of Scramjet Combustor-Nozzle Analysis and Design' is presented. The three main tasks in the program are combustor modeling study, development of anaylsis capabilities for hypersonic scramjet nozzles, and development of optimum design methods for hypersonic scramjet nozzles. The research performed was documented in a series of technical publications and presentations at various conferences. A brief description of the research in each of the above three areas and a list of the resulting technical publications are included

Verification of mesoscale objective analyses of VAS and rawinsonde data using the March 1982 AVE/VAS special network data

    Get PDF
Various combinations of VAS (Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer Atmospheric Sounder) data, conventional rawinsonde data, and gridded data from the National Weather Service's (NWS) global analysis, were used in successive-correction and variational objective-analysis procedures. Analyses are produced for 0000 GMT 7 March 1982, when the VAS sounding distribution was not greatly limited by the existence of cloud cover. The successive-correction (SC) procedure was used with VAS data alone, rawinsonde data alone, and both VAS and rawinsonde data. Variational techniques were applied in three ways. Each of these techniques was discussed

    Orthodontic palatal implants: clinical technique
