In this research project, the variation of the water quality of the main tributaries of the Guachicos river basin and its tributary streams was determined: Cedro, Roble, Caney, Aguas Negras and Maralla, which supply the aqueduct of the urban area. of the municipality of Pitalito Huila, by calculating the ICA Water Quality Index and the ICOs contamination indices, using physicochemical and microbiological methods: pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity and Temperature Hardness, Alkalinity, Phosphorus, and Nitrites, Turbidity, true color , Total Suspended Solids, BOD, COD Total Coliforms and Escherichia Coli, Therefore, four (4) samplings were carried out: April, July and September 2018 and February 2019. According to the results for the ICA values, they are presented waters with low contamination for the sources: Roble, Aguas Negras, Caney, Rio Guachicos and El Cedro with values between (0.50 - 0.54), the Maralla source presents a mean co ntaminacipon with a low ICA value of (0.33), as for the contamination indices for ICOMI and ICOSUS they show low contamination, as for ICOMO it shows high values for organic loads and the ICOTRO shows waters with hyperutrofia. Finally, the results obtained on the variation of the water quality will be the input for the formulation of an environmental education plan in the communities surrounding the banks of the Guachicos, taking into account the importance of its tributaries

Ebola Preparedness and Risk in Latin America

    Get PDF
Until today, February 22, 2016, no confirmed Ebola cases have been diagnosed in Americas (except USA, four cases with one death). Confusion, lack of knowledge, and fear have led to quickly misclassify cases as suspected, when in fact most of them are false alarms. Nevertheless, European governments summoned to mobilize resources to attend the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. And also Latin American governments should contribute to halt this humanitarian crisis and to be prepared for the potential arrival of this deadly virus in the Caribbean, Central, and South American mainland. In this chapter, we described the experience of preparedness as well as risk assessment done in Latin America regarding the threat of Ebola for the region
