ATLANTIC EPIPHYTES: a data set of vascular and non-vascular epiphyte plants and lichens from the Atlantic Forest

Epiphytes are hyper-diverse and one of the frequently undervalued life forms in plant surveys and biodiversity inventories. Epiphytes of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, have high endemism and radiated recently in the Pliocene. We aimed to (1) compile an extensive Atlantic Forest data set on vascular, non-vascular plants (including hemiepiphytes), and lichen epiphyte species occurrence and abundance; (2) describe the epiphyte distribution in the Atlantic Forest, in order to indicate future sampling efforts. Our work presents the first epiphyte data set with information on abundance and occurrence of epiphyte phorophyte species. All data compiled here come from three main sources provided by the authors: published sources (comprising peer-reviewed articles, books, and theses), unpublished data, and herbarium data. We compiled a data set composed of 2,095 species, from 89,270 holo/hemiepiphyte records, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, recorded from 1824 to early 2018. Most of the records were from qualitative data (occurrence only, 88%), well distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest. For quantitative records, the most common sampling method was individual trees (71%), followed by plot sampling (19%), and transect sampling (10%). Angiosperms (81%) were the most frequently registered group, and Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae were the families with the greatest number of records (27,272 and 21,945, respectively). Ferns and Lycophytes presented fewer records than Angiosperms, and Polypodiaceae were the most recorded family, and more concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern regions. Data on non-vascular plants and lichens were scarce, with a few disjunct records concentrated in the Northeastern region of the Atlantic Forest. For all non-vascular plant records, Lejeuneaceae, a family of liverworts, was the most recorded family. We hope that our effort to organize scattered epiphyte data help advance the knowledge of epiphyte ecology, as well as our understanding of macroecological and biogeographical patterns in the Atlantic Forest. Nowadays, it appears that entrepreneurship has had an ever-increasing importance in the world, because of the many changes that have been taking place, especially in labor relations. Several countries have undertaken actions to include teaching entrepreneurship in their curriculum structures in primary, secondary and higher education, being aware that the entrepreneur is one of the elements that provide rising conditions of employment and income. Accordingly, the objective of this study was to identify if the culture of entrepreneurship is practiced in undergraduate courses in accounting sciences in major institutions of higher education in Brazil, focusing on federal universities. The research is characterized as descriptive and qualitative. The sample analysed involved twenty-seven federal institutions, and each of them represents a unit of the federation. As a result, it became evident that the issue of entrepreneurship is present as very incipient in educational projects of the institutions surveyed, but there is a trend towards the implementation in their syllabus strutures. It was concluded, finally, that further study is necessary, awareness and entrepreneurship dissemination on the part of public institutions of higher education for accounting sciences courses, to encourage the accounting professionals to develop their potential in supporting entrepreneurs and the development of the country.Constata-se, atualmente, que o empreendedorismo tem tido uma importância cada vez mais crescente no mundo, em virtude das inúmeras mudanças que vêm ocorrendo, principalmente nas relações de trabalho. BORBOLETÁRIO LUIZ OTERO: APROXIMAÇÃO SOCIEDADE E CIÊNCIA

No cenário ambiental atual, é indiscutível a necessidade de promover ações de conscientização social que contribuam para a formação de cidadãos críticos e cientes da importância da conservação do meio ambiente. Os projetos de divulgação científica e educação em ciência são um link não formal de aprendizagem, que aproxima sociedade e cientistas, agregando conhecimento e criando um intercâmbio de informações necessário entre dois importantes segmentos da sociedade. Nesse contexto, a implantação do “Borboletário Luiz Otero” tem como objetivo a formação de um espaço de interações do público com elementos da natureza e contribuindo para a conscientização ambiental. A estrutura se encontra dentro do Horto da Prefeitura da Cidade Universitária, na Ilha do Fundão, e já possui etapas concluídas apresentadas no 11º Congresso de Extensão da UFRJ. O borboletário conta com alunos de graduação do Instituto de Biologia e da Escola de Belas Artes, colaboradores do Laboratório de Ecologia de Insetos, além de funcionários do Horto da Prefeitura Universitária. Atualmente, o projeto passa por uma etapa de plantio de mudas de plantas de espécies tais como: Duranta repens, Solanum pseudoquina, Inga maritima, Lafoensia densiflora, Passiflora mucronata, Brunfelsia uniflora, Alchornia triplinervia, Pterocarpus violaceus. Essas e outras espécies de plantas já estabelecidas no borboletário têm o propósito de oferecer alimento (folhas) para as larvas e para os adultos (flores/néctar) das borboletas. Além disso, estamos também desenvolvendo um ambiente adequado, em termos de umidade e luminosidade, de modo a conferir a maior longevidade possível às borboletas e as condições ideais para sua reprodução. A próxima etapa prevista no projeto é o experimento piloto de soltura de algumas borboletas e o monitoramento de seu comportamento de alimentação, reprodução e de sua longevidade. Paralelamente, a equipe tem realizado pesquisas extensivas sobre borboletários já existentes no Brasil e aspectos ecológicos das potenciais espécies que serão mantidas no mesmo. A preparação do material didático terá início no segundo semestre de 2015 e buscará atingir de forma adequada os mais diversos públicos, como crianças, professores e cidadãos em geral. O “Borboletário Luiz Otero” servirá também de ambiente para o desenvolvimento de pesquisa científica nas áreas de ecologia e educação e abrirá oportunidades para alunos de graduação e pós-graduação interessados nessas áreas

Effect of the Combination of Synthetic Anthelmintics with Carvacryl Acetate in Emulsions with and without a Sodium Alginate Matrix on <i>Haemonchus contortus</i>

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of nanoemulsions using combined synthetic anthelmintics, thiabendazole (TBZ), levamisole (LEV), and ivermectin (IVM), with carvacryl acetate (CA) against Haemonchus contortus, and also tested the presence and absence of alginate (ALG). The anthelmintic effect of the CA/TBZ nanoemulsion was evaluated in the egg hatch test (EHT). The effects of CA/IVM and CA/LEV nanoemulsions were evaluated in the larval development test (LDT). The emulsions CA/TBZ/ALG and CA/TBZ showed a multimodal profile, with most particles on the nanometric scale. The encapsulation efficiency in CA/TBZ/ALG was 80.25%, and that in CA/LEV/ALG was 89.73%. In the EHT, CA/TBZ and CA/TBZ/ALG showed mean combination indices (CIs) of 0.55 and 0.36, respectively, demonstrating synergism in both. In LDT, CA/IVM had an average CI of 0.75, and CA/LEV and CA/LEV/ALG showed CI values of 0.4 and 0.93, respectively. It was concluded that CA/TBZ showed a synergistic interaction, and CA/TBZ/ALG showed an enhanced effect. In addition, the matrix brought stability to the product, encouraging its improvement to obtain higher efficacy
