INITIAL DEVELOPMENT OF FIVE TREE SPECIES NATIVE TO THE ATLANTIC FOREST IN RECOMPOSITION PLANTATIONS IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL
The regularization of rural properties in the molds of the New Forest Code depends on the silvicultural study of the native species of the Brazilian biomes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the initial growth of five native tree species of the Atlantic Forest, with a view to their use in forest restoration projects. The following species were produced in the nursery, planted in the field, and evaluated for performance: Araucaria angustifolia, Mimosa scabrella, Trichilia claussenii, Schizolobium parahyba, and Cordia trichotoma. These species were distributed in two different areas, based on the randomized block experimental design. In experiment 1, the species A. angustifolia, M. scabrella, and C. trichotoma were distributed in three randomized blocks, each composed of 11 plants of each species. In experiment 2, the species A. angustifolia, M. scabrella, T. claussenii, and S. parahyba were distributed in three randomized blocks, each one composed of five plants of each species. In general, S. parahyba and M. scabrella showed faster development than the other species and, in this regard, are promising candidates for forest areas constitution or reconstitution in which there is interest in obtaining economic returns in less time. Araucaria angustifolia and T. claussenii showed relatively low development, whereas C. trichotoma showed intermediate development in relation to the other species studied. Despite their differences in performance, all species proved to be suitable for use in reforestation, mainly in the region where the study was developed
EFEITO DE DIFERENTES DOSES DO FORMICIDA “CITROMAX” NO CONTROLE DE Acromyrmex lundi (HYMENOPTERA: FORMICIDAE)
REGISTER OF NEW SPECIES OF ANTS (HYMENOPTERA: FORMICIDAE) IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE
As coletas
subfam\uedlias. Destas, a floresta nativa, apresentou 90
Neste trabalho, \ue9 feito o primeiro

Grande do Sul state and thus to contribute to the knowledge about the
ant fauna (Myrmecofauna). Collections were made in four different
environments, namely, native forest, eucalyptus plantations,
agricultural plantation and exotic pasture. We used the mini-Winkler
method of extraction to collect the ants. We removed 1 square meter
(1m\ub2) of litter, sifted it and packed it in mini-Winkler
extractors to obtain the fauna. We collected 108 species, which
represent 31 genera, 18 tribes and 8 subfamilies. The native forest
presented 90 collected species, the eucalyptus plantation presented 65
species, and the agricultural plantation and the exotic pasture
presented 20 species each. We have registered for the first time the

formicide "Citromax", formulated with Ateleia glazioviana, in different
doses on the control of Acromyrmex lundi, in native field in S\ue3o
Sep\ue9 county, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Four treatments were
analyzed, constituted of doses of 5, 10 and 15g of "Citromax" and 10g
of "Mirex-S" (sulphluramide 0,3%) in each nest. The statistical design
was completely randomized with 10 repetitions, considering each nest as
one repetition. The effectiveness was evaluated in the 1st, 5th, 10th,
15th and 20th day after treatment application. The obtained results
allow to conclude that "Citromax" shows an impact action, because there
was a high percentage of control in the first five days. The Acromyrmex
lundi control due to "Citromax" formicide was efficient in all the
evaluated doses, obtaining a control percentage up to 85%. The
influence of net size was not observed in relation to the percentage

In this study, the main purpose was to quantify the diameter, height and productivity index losses in initial development in Pinus taeda seedlings in stands in Argentine, after leaf cutting ants attack. The treatments were: T1 = control without attack; T2 = attacked by ants; and T3 = sequential artificial deneedling. The three development stages of the plants in two distinct slopes were also evaluated. The results allow concluding that there is a significant reduction in Pinus taeda development when attacked by leaf cutting ants during the first 24 months. In the artificially deneedled plants, there was a significant reduction related to the ones deneedled by the ants, for all the analyzed variables.
