Oceans and the Sustainable Development Goals: Co-Benefits, Climate Change & Social Equity

Achieving ocean sustainability is paramount for coastal communities and marine industries, yet is also inextricably linked to much broader global sustainable development—including increased resilience to climate change and improved social equity—as envisioned by the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This report highlights the co-benefits from achieving each SDG 14 target: progress towards each of the other 161 SDG targets when ocean targets are met, given ten-year lag times between ocean targets and other SDG targets. The identification of co-benefits is based on input from more than 30 scientific experts in the Nereus Program. Below we highlight notable co-benefits of achieving each target within SDG 14

Diseño de un nuevo sistema de adquisición basado en Red Pitaya para los detectores de partículas usados en la colaboración LAGO

The first step of the development of a new data acquisition system for the Water Cherenkov detectors used within LAGO Collaboration is described. The system is based in the open source board Red Pitaya; design and development of a prototype of the interface board needed to connect peripherals (PMTs and sensors) as well as power supply is described. First tests of functionality connecting the PMT that will be used to implement a WCD detector in USFQ Cumbayá Campus are reported. Future development in HW and SW in order to have a new data acquisition system for particle detection is described.Se describen los primeros pasos para el desarrollo de un nuevo sistema de adquisición de datos para los detectores de agua Cherenkov usados en la Colaboración LAGO. El sistema se basa en la tarjeta de código abierto Red Pitaya; se describe también el diseño y la implementación de un primer prototipo de tarjeta de interfaces para conectar todos los periféricos necesarios (PMTs y sensores) así como los módulos de alimentación. Se reportan las primeras pruebas de funcionamiento conectando el PMT que será usado para implementar un detector WCD en el Campus Cumbayá de la USFQ. Se describen además los desarrollos futuros de SW y HW necesarios para completar el diseño de un nuevo sistema de adquisición de datos para detección de partículas

Microempresas: Indicadores económicos macro, ayudas gubernamentales, y análisis del sector microempresarial de Cotocollao / Microenterprises: macroeconomic indicators, governmental aid, and an analysis of small enterprises in Cotocollao

El 89,63% de las empresas del Ecuador son microempresas dedicándose en su mayoría a la actividad comercial generando un gran número de personal afiliado. En el presente aporte, se describe el bajo impacto de algunos programas ministeriales1 enfocados a impulsar el microemprendimiento en el país e incentivar la transformación de la matriz productiva, priorizando sectores alejados de la actividad principal de las mismas. Finalmente, se ofrecen resultados de una investigación de las microempresas en la parroquia de Cotocollao observando un denominador común reflejado en una falta de planificación, escaso e inexistente financiamiento para impulsar su sostenibilidad y crecimiento, degenerando en bajos ingresos, baja generación de empleo e incumplimiento de obligaciones tributarias.The 89,63% of the companies of the Ecuador are micro dedicated mostly to the commercial activity generating a large number of affiliated staff.
