    A lattice calculation of the pion form factor with Ginsparg-Wilson-type fermions

    Higher-Twist Contribution to Pion Structure Function: 4-Fermi Operators

    We present quenched lattice QCD results for the contribution of higher-twist operators to the lowest non-trivial moment of the pion structure function. To be specific, we consider the combination F2π++F2π−−2F2π0F_2^{\pi^+} + F_2^{\pi^-} - 2 F_2^{\pi^0} which has I=2I = 2 and receives contributions from 4-Fermi operators only. We introduce the basis of lattice operators. The renormalization of the operators is done perturbatively in the MSˉ\bar{\rm{MS}} scheme using the 't Hooft-Veltman prescription for γ5\gamma_5, taking particular care of mixing effects. The contribution is found to be of O(fπ2/Q2)O(f_\pi^2/Q^2), relative to the leading contribution to the moment of F2π+F_2^{\pi^+}.Comment: Version to appear in Nucl. Phys.

    Renormalization of minimally doubled fermions

    We investigate the renormalization properties of minimally doubled fermions, at one loop in perturbation theory. Our study is based on the two particular realizations of Borici-Creutz and Karsten-Wilczek. A common feature of both formulations is the breaking of hyper-cubic symmetry, which requires that the lattice actions are supplemented by suitable counterterms. We show that three counterterms are required in each case and determine their coefficients to one loop in perturbation theory. For both actions we compute the vacuum polarization of the gluon. It is shown that no power divergences appear and that all contributions which arise from the breaking of Lorentz symmetry are cancelled by the counterterms. We also derive the conserved vector and axial-vector currents for Karsten-Wilczek fermions. Like in the case of the previously studied Borici-Creutz action, one obtains simple expressions, involving only nearest-neighbour sites. We suggest methods how to fix the coefficients of the counterterms non-perturbatively and discuss the implications of our findings for practical simulations.Comment: 23 pages, 1 figur

    Cerebellar Atrophy Related To Chronic Exposure To Toluene. Case Report.

    A 31-year-old woman presented slowly progressing ataxia and neurasthenic symptoms after 14-year occupational exposure to low concentration toluene vapour. Examination disclosed only cerebellar signs. Cognitive functions were normal except moderate visuo-spatial and constructive deficit. CT imaging showed severe pancerebellar atrophy without pathological signs in other brain structures. Two years after she was removed from workplace, CT imaging and ataxia showed no worsening, while visuo-constructive function improved. The authors warn against possible neurotoxic risk associated with this kind of exposure.5290-

    Nucleon electromagnetic form factors in two-flavour QCD

    We present results for the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, including the momentum transfer dependence and derived quantities (charge radii and magnetic moment). The analysis is performed using O(a) improved Wilson fermions in Nf=2 QCD measured on the CLS ensembles. Particular focus is placed on a systematic evaluation of the influence of excited states in three-point correlation functions, which lead to a biased evaluation, if not accounted for correctly. We argue that the use of summed operator insertions and fit ans\"atze including excited states allow us to suppress and control this effect. We employ a novel method to perform joint chiral and continuum extrapolations, by fitting the form factors directly to the expressions of covariant baryonic chiral effective field theory. The final results for the charge radii and magnetic moment from our lattice calculations include, for the first time, a full error budget.     We evaluate the contribution of a class of higher-twist operators to the lowest moment of the Structure Functions, by computing appropriate matrix elements of six four-fermion operators in the quenched approximation.     Nucleon axial form factors from two-flavour Lattice QCD

    We present preliminary results on the axial form factor GA(Q2)G_A(Q^2) and the induced pseudoscalar form factor GP(Q2)G_P(Q^2) of the nucleon. A systematic analysis of the excited-state contributions to form factors is performed on the CLS ensemble `N6' with mπ=340 MeVm_\pi = 340 \ \text{MeV} and lattice spacing a∼0.05 fma \sim 0.05 \ \text{fm}. The relevant three-point functions were computed with source-sink separations ranging from ts∼0.6 fmt_s \sim 0.6 \ \text{fm} to $t_s \sim \ 1.4 \ \text{fm}$. We observe that the form factors suffer from non-trivial excited-state contributions at the source-sink separations available to us.
