Recovery of the electric strength in a cold cathode thyratron

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the investigations of the recovery process of electric strength in a cold cathode thyratron. Method which allows extracting the plasma of the preceding discharge not only from the cathode cavity but also from the main gap of the thyratron is proposed. Method is based on the usage of a low-current nonsteady state discharge in the pause between the pulses

Total Widths And Slopes From Complex Regge Trajectories

    Get PDF
Maximally complex Regge trajectories are introduced for which both Re Ξ±(s)\alpha(s) and Im Ξ±(s)\alpha(s) grow as s1βˆ’Ο΅s^{1-\epsilon} (Ο΅\epsilon small and positive). Our expression reduces to the standard real linear form as the imaginary part (proportional to Ο΅\epsilon) goes to zero. A scaling formula for the total widths emerges: Ξ“TOT/Mβ†’\Gamma_{TOT}/M\to constant for large M, in very good agreement with data for mesons and baryons. The unitarity corrections also enhance the space-like slopes from their time-like values, thereby resolving an old problem with the ρ\rho trajectory in Ο€N\pi N charge exchange. Finally, the unitarily enhanced intercept, Ξ±Οβ‰ˆ0.525\alpha_{\rho}\approx 0.525, \nolinebreak is in good accord with the Donnachie-Landshoff total cross section analysis.Comment: 9 pages, 3 Figure

Low-current hollow-cathode discharge in a trigger unit of a cold cathode thyratron

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the investigations of the effect of cathode emissivity on the regimes of low-current hollow-cathode glow discharge. It is shown that an increase in the emissivity due to the so-called high-emissivity tablet allows the essential decrease in the discharge initiation voltage and the discharge burning voltage. The model of current sustaining for the hollow-cathode discharge, which takes into account the external emission current has been developed. On basis of the model, the current-voltage characteristics of the discharge have been interpreted

Global Aggregated Ranking of HEIs: Russian Footprint

    Get PDF
The paper suggests a new approach to performance evaluation of universities in Russia and worldwide based on aggregation of the results of ten global rankings and the Database of External Quality Assurance Results (DEQAR). The method of league analysis (MetALeague) allows the authors to integrate the diverse results of ranking and evaluation regardless of considerable variations in ranking methodology and indicators. As a result of MetALeague integration, the Global Aggregated Ranking of higher education institutions has been made. The paper analyses the global rankings and the position of Russian HEIs in these rankings. The authors have also analyzed the positions of countries based on the number of HEIs included in the Global Aggregated Ranking. The due consideration of research results, according to the authors, can propel the leading Russian universities to higher positions in the global educational environment

Exclusive pp→nnπ+π+pp \to nn \pi^{+}\pi^{+} reaction at LHC and RHIC

We evaluate differential distributions for the four-body pp→nnπ+π+p p \to n n \pi^+ \pi^+ reaction. The amplitude for the process is calculated in the Regge approach including many diagrams. We make predictions for possible future experiments at RHIC and LHC energies. Very large cross sections are found which is partially due to interference of a few mechanisms. Presence of several interfering mechanisms precludes extraction of the elastic π+π+\pi^+ \pi^+ scattering cross section. Absorption effects are estimated. Differential distributions in pseudorapidity, rapidity, invariant two-pion mass, transverse-momentum and energy distributions of neutrons are presented for proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 500 GeV (RHIC) and s\sqrt{s} = 0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV (LHC). Cross sections with experimental cuts are presented.Comment: 22 pages, 18 figures, calculations have been corrected, new processes added, discussion expanded in print in Phys. Rev.

Experimental study of direct photon emission in K- --> pi- pi0 gamma decay using ISTRA+ detector

The branching ratio in the charged-pion kinetic energy region of 55 to 90 MeV for the direct photon emission in the K- --> pi- pi0 gamma decay has been measured using in-flight decays detected with the ISTRA+ setup operating in the 25 GeV/c negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. The value Br(DE)=[0.37+-0.39(stat)+-0.10(syst)]*10^(-5) obtained from the analysis of 930 completely reconstructed events is consistent with the average value of two stopped-kaon experiments, but it differs by 2.5 standard deviations from the average value of three in-flight-kaon experiments. The result is also compared with recent theoretical predictions.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
