Izazov eksperimenata virtualnog Comptonovog raspršenja iznad 8 GeV
We discuss the experimental issues confronting measurements of the virtualCompton-scattering (VCS) reaction ep→epγ with electron beams of energy 6 – 30 GeV. We specifically address the kinematics of deeply-virtual-Comptonscattering (deep inelastic scattering, with coincident detection of the exclusive real photon nearly parallel to the virtual photon direction) and large transverse momentum VCS (high energy VCS of arbitrary Q2, and the recoil proton emitted with high-momentum transverse to the virtual photon direction). We discuss the experimental equipment necessary for these measurements. For the deeply virtual Compton scattering, we emphasize the importance of the Bethe-Heitler – Compton interference terms that can be measured with the electron-positron (beam charge) asymmetry, and the electron beam helicity asymmetryRaspravljamo teško´ce s kojima se sučeljavaju mjerenja reakcija virtualnog Comptonovog raspršenja (VCS) ep→epγ pri energijama elektrona od 6 do 30 GeV.
First Order Actions: a New View
We analyse systems described by first order actions using the Hamilton-Jacobi
(HJ) formalism for singular systems. In this study we verify that generalized
brackets appear in a natural way in HJ approach, showing us the existence of a
symplectic structure in the phase spaces of this formalism
Design of metallic nanoparticles gratings for filtering properties in the visible spectrum
Plasmonic resonances in metallic nanoparticles are exploited to create
efficient optical filtering functions. A Finite Element Method is used to model
metallic nanoparticles gratings. The accuracy of this method is shown by
comparing numerical results with measurements on a two-dimensional grating of
gold nanocylinders with elliptic cross section. Then a parametric analysis is
performed in order to design efficient filters with polarization dependent
properties together with high transparency over the visible range. The behavior
of nanoparticle gratings is also modelled using the Maxwell-Garnett
homogenization theory and analyzed by comparison with the diffraction by a
single nanoparticle. The proposed structures are intended to be included in
optical systems which could find innovative applications.Comment: submitted to Applied Optic
Optimization of ISSR marker for African edible-seeded Cucurbitaceae species’ genetic diversity analysis
We applied a molecular approach using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers on three African edible-seeded cucurbits (Citrullus lanatus L. Matsumura and Nakai, Cucumeropsis mannii L. Naudin and Cucumis melo var. agrestis L. Naudin). To obtain clear and reproducible bands on 1.5% agarose gels, we screened 21 ISSR primers and three parameters (annealing temperature, gel tray, and voltage and running time). The resolution of 11 ISSR markers was performed, with optimal annealing temperature (Ta) varying from 50 to 52°C. The best combination to obtain clear and well-distinguished band patterns was 1.5% agarose gel with a 20-lanes tray (6 mm width) at 80 V for 5 h. Applying the 11 ISSR primers on DNA extracted from an accession of C. lanatus, 66 bands with 4 to 11 bands per primer was observed. Keywords: ISSR, Cucurbits, genetic diversity, molecular markers, optimizatio
Prospects for weak lensing/cosmic shear with VLTs
The present status of weak lensing analyses of clusters of galaxies and of
cosmic shear surveys are presented and discussed. We focus on the impact of
very large telescopes on present-day and future surveys and compare their
potential with HST or wide field 4 meter telescopes.Comment: To appear in SPIE Conference 4834. Astronomical Telescopes and

Detection of correlated galaxy ellipticities on CFHT data: first evidence for gravitational lensing by large-scale structures
We report the detection of a significant (5.5 sigma) excess of correlations
between galaxy ellipticities at scales ranging from 0.5 to 3.5 arc-minutes.
This detection of a gravitational lensing signal by large-scale structure was
made using a composite high quality imaging survey of 6300 arcmin^2 obtained at
the Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) with the UH8K and CFH12K panoramic
CCD cameras. The amplitude of the excess correlation is 2.2\pm 0.2 % at 1
arcmin scale, in agreement with theoretical predictions of the lensing effect
induced by large-scale structure. We provide a quantitative analysis of
systematics which could contribute to the signal and show that the net effect
is small and can be corrected for. We show that the measured ellipticity
correlations behave as expected for a gravitational shear signal. The
relatively small size of our survey precludes tight constraints on cosmological
models. However the data are in favor of cluster normalized cosmological
models, and marginally reject Cold Dark Matter models with (Omega=0.3,
sigma_8<0.6) or (Omega=1, sigma_8=1). The detection of cosmic shear
demonstrates the technical feasibility of using weak lensing surveys to measure
dark matter clustering and the potential for cosmological parameter
measurements, in particular with upcoming wide field CCD cameras.Comment: 19 pages. 19 Figures. Revised version accepted in A&
